Welcome to the
Alberni Valley
The Alberni Valley is truly a
spectacular setting for sport. With
a deep-water inlet and the 1800m
Mt. Arrowsmith as your backdrop,
you’ll find natural wonders,
modern sport facilities, and a
passionate community of 24,701.
While we aren’t the largest
Vancouver Island destination, we
think a winning sports destination
involves more than just size. We
invest in our sport facilities. And
we are a community of athletes
and fans.
We invite you to host your event
here in the Alberni Valley. And we
know that our excellent facilities,
responsive staff, and hosting
experience will help make your
event a success.
Our hosting highlights
Our sport facilities have attracted
a prestigious list of hosting
partners, including the BC
Summer and Winter Games,
the BC Senior Games, the BC

Championships, the BC Track
and Field Championships, the
Times Colonist Invitational Track
Event, the BC Youth Soccer
Championships, and the 2012

arenas
At the centre of the Alberni Valley’s sport and
event life is the Multiplex. This arena is large
enough to accommodate two major sporting,
commercial, performance, or public assembly
events simultaneously. Home to the Junior “A”
ice hockey team, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, the
arena features two NHL regulation ice surfaces
and holds 1850 spectators. Easy over-ice flooring
allows the rinks to quickly become concerts,
tradeshows, and banquet venues.
Its hosting history is extensive: the BC Hockey
Provincials, the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey
Challenge, the 2008 BC High School Wrestling
Championships, WLA Lacrosse Games, and the
2011 Adult Ball Hockey Tournaments.
Each year, the Multiplex proudly hosts the
Annual Alberni Invitational Wrestling Tournament,
a competition that attracts more than 800
competitors from all over BC.

A 600-seat track and field stadium, more than
20 baseball diamonds and a passionate local rugby
club—it’s clear that the Alberni Valley is serious
about field sports.
The BC Track and Field Championships, the
BC Summer Games, and the BC Youth Soccer
Championships are just a few of the events we’ve
hosted on our fields.
Softball also runs deep in our community. Over
the years, Echo Park has hosted a number of
tournaments, including the Western Canada
Bantam Girl Softball Championships (2007), and
over 30 Softball BC Championships.

From towering old growth
rainforests to spectacular ocean
kayaking, the Alberni Valley is
known for outdoor adventure.
Our forests and mountains are filled
with BMX jumps, rock climbing,
mountain bike trails, a motocross
and 4x4 track, and a vast system
of hiking trails that weave their way
through lush forests, past waterfalls
and untouched river banks.
Windsurfers and kiteboarders
are often found enjoying the
regular strong afternoon breeze
up the beautiful Alberni Inlet.
Sproat Lake, famous for its warm,
smooth-as-glass water, attracts
talented wakeboarders and
waterskiers from across Canada
for annual competitions.
Port Alberni also earned the World
Fishing Network’s ‘Ultimate Fishing
Town’ designation in 2010.
