TJORM Epsiode 1 - Thornlie Christian College
Beloved Staff & Students
The Publications Committee developed this magazine in order to
establish a strong bond between the Students and the Teachers at
our College. We have included the things which, we believe, are a
central part of TCC and will also develop relationships amongst
students of different Year Groups and their Teachers.
We sincerely hope that all of you enjoy this inaugural publication
of “The Journey of Radical Minds” and that it will become a long
lasting tradition at our College.

I should probably begin by highlighting that I do not
speak for Thornlie Christian College when I say that
teenage relationships aren’t an unhealthy thing. In
such a contemporary media-fuelled society as our own,
relationships at a young age have become an all-round
accepted facet of adolescence. Posting about it
incessantly on Facebook however, regardless of how
innocent it seems, is not healthy – and this is
generally ignored.
We’re accustomed to believe by romantic blockbuster
clichés that publicised declarations of love validate
or ‘prove’ feelings but if we reflect on it, this is
not necessarily true. Surely I am not the only one who
must laboriously scroll down pages of unfiltered teens
boasting about their ‘boyfriends’/’girlfriends’ every
day when I get home from school. Intimacy is central
to every relationship; the personal chemistry and
times you share with a friend forms the foundation of
your union. It is interpersonal, it is exclusive, and
above all, it is not to be advertised on Facebook.
Advertising relationship statuses and feelings invites
others to spectate and thus interfere, which can lead
to jealousy, rumours and other social conflicts. But
above all, it creates an unconscious divide between
those in a relationship, and those not. Use the recent
Valentines Day for instance; the reason why some many
people were discouraged and down was because couples
emphasised how they had each other, in turn making
singles feel isolated, disjointed and to lose selfesteem. It’s not fair. I’m not criticizing or playing
down anyone’s feelings, I’m just asking; is Facebook
really the venue for that kind of emotional privacy?
I’ll leave that up to you.

to see all of you today...because if I couldn't I
