LEADERSHIP
Happy fall! Over the summer months we took the
opportunity to go through our clubhouse and perform
our annual deep-cleaning, necessary repairs, and
preventative maintenance. The big news this summer was
the renovation of our 39 sleeping rooms. Among many
other changes, we’ve added new paint, lighting, window
treatments, and bed linens, that have significantly
enhanced the overnight experience at The Penn Club.
The project began in early July, and I’m happy to say that
we are right on schedule, and the completed rooms are
beautiful. This has been the first major endeavor under my
leadership since I started at the Club in January, and has
truly proved to be a team effort.
We’ve also purchased a digital signage system for our
lobby to alert you of announcements and happenings at
the Club.
September marks a new month of exciting programs,
networking, and renewed reflections on the many facets
of your club life. Another new development that we are
excited to announce is our buffet-style Wednesday lunch
and Friday dinner in the Main Dining Room. For those
of you who love to dine in the Main Dining Room, we
encourage you to turn up often at these buffet lunches
and dinners. I’m eager to welcome you to your homeaway-from-home as we once again enter another exciting
chapter in the life of the Club.
A special thank you to our Chief Engineer, Jose Acosta—
the man behind the scenes, who worked tirelessly on the
renovation project, and keeps this building in such terrific
shape.

Entrepreneur Panel: The 3 A’s of Fast
Tracking Your Business Success: Apps,
Accelerate & Adapt |
Tuesday, October 7th. Reception 6:30 p.m. Program 7:00 p.m.
Brought to you by Penn Women in Business Intraclub
How do you go from having an idea about how consumers prefer their
coffee to becoming a competitor of Starbucks? Or how do you go from
having a relentless commitment to improving business meetings to
adapting your approach and apps along the way? Come join us to hear
how two entrepreneurs, Gilad Rotem, co-founder of Cups, and Larry
Cerri of Unison, fast tracked their business models—one by working
with an accelerator and the other by becoming an astute adaptor—to
achieve success.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Gilad Rotem: Rotem is the co-founder of CUPS, a
$45 monthly subscription service that entitles users to
unlimited coffee at an expanding number of independent
coffee shops in NYC and Tel Aviv. Previously, while
employed at Incomate, he founded InGaming.com, a
user acquisition network specializing in Facebook and
Mobile games which marked Incomate’s first step outside
the gambling arena. Gilad led product development and initial client
base acquisition for InGaming in and served as an advisor for the Casual
Gaming Association.
Larry Cerri: Cerri is the founder of UNISON: the
Collaborative Meeting Experience. UNISON is a leader in
leveraging meeting interactive/collaborative technologies
to create an environment of full audience engagement and
participation. The data gathered through this approach is
thoroughly analyzed to extract key insights to drive future
results. With the advent of the ‘app’ explosion, Larry
transformed the UNISON concept into Captivator that takes the inroom experience to higher levels of virtual meeting interactivity and data
capture.

Wharton Marketing Professor:
Peter Fader on Consumer Centricity
Marketing |
Tuesday, October 28th 7:00 p.m. The Penn Club welcomes
the highly regarded Professor Peter S. Fader—the Frances
and Pei-Yuan Chia Professor of Marketing at the Wharton
School at the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Fader’s
expertise centers on the analysis of behavioral data to
understand and forecast customer shopping and purchasing
activities. In this lecture he will explore the concept of customer centricity
(i.e., customer acquisition, retention, and development).
The evening will begin with a brief review of Professor Fader’s recent book,
Customer Centricity: Focus on the Right Customers for Strategic Advantage,
followed by a deep dive into the profitability question: given the risks and costs
of becoming customer centric, how can it be more profitable than the more
traditional product-centric approach? Professor Fader will carefully examine the
tactical underlying “building blocks” of customer centricity, and will point out
subtle but important insights into their interplay. In addition, he will highlight a
number of actionable suggestions to help managers make the most effective and
efficient use of these “building blocks”.
Professor Fader’s work has been published in a number of leading journals
in marketing, statistics, and the management sciences. He has won many
awards for his teaching and research accomplishments.
$20 per member and $25 per guest for reservations made by Tuesday,

whirlpool, and basketball, squash, and handball. After
a workout members can relax in the spa comprised of

As my time with TFA comes to a close, I have been preparing to move
to Brazil on a Fulbright Scholarship. I have been able to chat with
a few folks who have worked in Brazil or who have been awarded a
Fulbright. Their insights have been invaluable.
