Chicken—
Dozens of TABA members attended the Associate Appreciation Cookout on Sept.
20th. Everyone raved about the chicken. Many thanks to our volunteer chef, Jack
Peppard, for bringing the grill and firing it up in the TABA parking lot before
most of us were out of bed! Thanks also to all of our builder sponsors, the many
volunteers who helped set up and clean up, and to our Ambassador Committee
for rolling out the red carpet to everyone who came!

FROM
THE
ASSOCIATE COUNCIL CORNER
ASSOCIATE COUNCIL PRESIDENT
It was such a pleasure to see everyone who attended
our Government Officials Appreciation and General Membership meeting at Willow Brook Country Club in October. Jeff
Cross and I, Ambassadors for TABA, were stationed inside
the door greeting everyone. Did you know that the Ambassadors serve as more than greeters at TABA events?
The Ambassador Committee is here for all of our members - new and old - to answer their questions about our
organizaton and to let them know how they can get the most
out of their membership.
The Fall Golf Tournament was the best ever. Thanks to our sponsors and
to everyone who participated. What a great way to enjoy the cooler weather!
Taking part in Association activities can help grow our businesses, and not
just when an associate member meets a few builders. Associates do business
with one another, too! I hope each one of you exercises your benefits of TABA
membership - and sees positive results from your investment!

MISSION STATEMENT:
Building Better Builders by
promoting quality, accountability
and professionalism in the home
building industry.
AND FINALLY . . .
If you want to maximize your involvement in the Tyler Area Builders Association, make plans right now to participate
in the 2011 Home Products Show and
Parade of Homes™. Plans are already
well underway for both of these extraordinary events.
Two excellent ways to get involved are by being an
exhibitor at the Home Products Show and by entering
or working with a builder on a house in the Parade of
Homes™. Both ticketed events attract thousands of
potential customers who are interested in building or
remodeling and all the associated products and services that go along with building and remodeling.
At the Home Products Show, in addition to exhibiting you can make sure your company’s name is front
and center by participating in countless advertising
and sponsorship venues. Builder members, you can
help teach a seminar or work a couple of shifts in the
Ask-a-Builder booth. You’ll be guaranteed face time
with consumers in a one-on-one setting. Many of these
same opportunities are available during the Parade of
Homes™.
But these events don’t just happen. Dozens of volunteers work behind the scenes throughout the year to
make them unparalleled successes. When you volunteer to serve on these committees or work during the
event you get to network, meet TABA members and be
seen by the public.
Who will benefit from your involvement? You, your
business and your association. Remember, every
contact you make is a potential asset to you and your
business. I hope you’ll take part in both events.
Kathey Comer
Executive Vice-President
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Your Board of Directors has spent a
lot of time this year working for you. The
Board meets on the first or second Tuesday of each month to discuss and act on
business for the Association.
We review reports from the Budget &
Finance Committee and get updates from all of the other Committees on membership activity, social events,
education classes, public relations campaigns and
more. These items are very important to the organization and operation of the Association as a whole. The
Board also hears ideas for ways to make the Association better. Like I said, the Board of Directors works for
you.
These TABA members take time out of their busy
lives to focus on Association business. I would like to
thank each 2010 Board member for their time, talents
and participation. If any one of you have the opportunity, please extend your thanks to a Board member.
The 2011 Board slate was approved at the October
General Membership Meeting and Government Officials Appreciation Luncheon. Their year of service will
begin in January.
If you are interested in getting more involved in Association business, please tell us your ideas. Don’t be
surprised if we ask you to participate on a Committee
and eventually get on the Board. Remember, the vitality
of this Association depends on the service of its members. We encourage you to jump right in.
Ricky Casey
