Fatal Railway
Collision in
Leduc
from RCMP Alberta Media Relations
On the morning of August 1, 2016, Leduc RCMP
responded to a report of human remains found by a
passerby on the railroad tracks near Highway 2A and
50 Street in Leduc, Alberta. Officers arrived on scene to
find a deceased adult male with injuries consistent with
a train versus pedestrian collision. The Leduc RCMP
were assisted in their investigation by Leduc Fire Services and CP Police Service.
Leduc RCMP believe that the collision occurred
sometime after 10:00 pm Sunday evening. The identity
of the deceased male is not known at the time of this
release. The investigation remains ongoing.
Assistance from the public is being sought in identifying the male found deceased. He is described as:
Aged early twenties
Caucasian; dark brown hair/brown eyes
Wearing a dark hoodie with an “Obey” logo on the
front
Black and white Nike runners
Braided leather bracelet

Unique Items
from Thorsby RCMP
Thorsby RCMP are seeking information regarding a
theft of numerous unique items from a trailer on Saturday July 1st 2016. The lock was cut on a large storage
trailer located in a pasture on a property near Township
482 on Range Road 25. A barb wire fence was cut to
access this trailer and numerous personal items were
taken.
The stolen items included:
- a large wooden table in the shape of a ship’s wheel
- a black US Divers dive knife with the letter “B” on the
handle
- 2 sets of Sherwood brand SCUBA regulators
- A Canadian Navy issue dive wetsuit, a “Farmer John”
beavertail style 2 piece black neoprene with the letter
“B” on each piece
These items are unique and are not commonly
found in the area.
Anyone having information concerning these items,
or the theft is asked to please contact Thorsby RCMP at
(780) 789-3950 or submit their information anonymously
through Crimestoppers.

from RCMP Alberta Media Relations
On July 27th, 2016 at 2:20 pm police, fire and ems
were dispatched to a single vehicle collision. The collision occurred on highway 11 near Jack Fish Lake west
of Rocky Mountain House. An unloaded gravel truck
was travelling west bound, it appears a tire blew out
causing the vehicle to go over an embankment into trees
and into a creek. A 68 year old male from the Drayton
Valley area and a 65 year old male from the Breton area
were pronounced deceased on scene.

PROTECTING
ALBERTANS AGAINST
UNFAIR POWER BILLS
The Government of Alberta is going to court to
protect Albertans from being forced to pay for
the business losses of five power companies.
The companies are trying to offload their losses onto Albertans because of a deal
made between the former government and Enron, a discredited and now-bankrupt
U.S. electricity operator.
Albertans shouldn’t have to pay for the losses of electricity companies.
This ‘Enron clause’ was never raised during months of public hearings that
were supposed to ensure Albertans got a fair deal as their electricity system
was deregulated.
And, there is evidence the Enron clause was enacted unlawfully by the previous
government and then deliberately withheld from the public.
The Government is asking the court to overturn the Enron clause and protect Albertans
against an estimated $2 billion in business losses over the next four years.
If successful, any additional electricity fees charged to the public due to the Enron
clause will be refunded back to Albertans.
Albertans shouldn’t be on the hook for a backroom deal that allows companies to
collect the profits when power prices are high and hand consumers the losses when
prices are low.
That’s why the Government of Alberta is taking legal action – to protect Albertans.

MP REPORT

Riding Update – Month of July, 2016
I enjoy being in the riding during the summer where
I can reconnect with my constituents. After Parliament
adjourned for the summer, I began my travels throughout the region.
In late June, I had the pleasure of attending the Alberta Beach Boat Launch Grand Opening, the re-dedi Legion, and the
cation of the cenotaph at the Thorsby
Village of Warburg’s Heritage Day Parade.
My family and I celebrated Canada Day with many
of our constituents in our hometown of Edson at the
beautiful Centennial Park. From the local talent and
birthday cake to the fireworks, the celebrations of Canada’s 149th birthday was an enjoyable family event.
I was pleased to be present, along with other dignitaries and members of the media, at the facility tour of
the new $200 million Edson Hospital. We were all very
impressed with the spacious and bright rooms, and the
special features in the operating and delivery rooms. A
great new addition will also be a renal dialysis unit that
will save many patients the lengthy drive to Edmonton
for the medical service.
I met with the Edson Fish and Game Association to
discuss current proposed firearms legislation, such as
Bills S-223 and C-246 which I know many hunters and
sports shooters have been concerned about.
In mid-July, I returned to Ottawa in order to catch up
on pending issues pertinent to the riding.
In the latter part of July, I prepared a radio message
in recognition of Heritage Day in Alberta (August 1st).
The following day, I met with constituents in Jasper and
later toured the Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National
Park.
I was pleased to hear that the Town of Hinton’s application for a grant toward The Guild Performing Arts
Venue Project was approved.
I also met with Mayor Herb Castle of Grande Cache,
to discuss the current and future economic situation in
the community.
On July 30th, I was in Peers to participate in their
‘40th Annual Gold Dust Daze Parade’ and Opening
Ceremonies where I enjoyed the festivities and speaking to many of my constituents, then on to Cadomin for
the Community Dinner at the Legion. The next day, I
watched a few slo-pitch games at the ‘SLO-Pitch Tournament’ in Edson.

Leduc RCMP
Investigating 2 Deaths
from RCMP Alberta Media Relations
Members of the Leduc RCMP detachment with
the assistance of the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit from
Edmonton are investigating the deaths of a man and a
woman who were found deceased within their residence.
The matter was reported to police at approximately 9:06
A.M. July 28, 2016.
Initial evidence suggests that the deaths were not
the result of any random criminal activity nor the consequence of any action by an unknown individual. Police
can confirm that they are not seeking anyone in connection to this incident and that there is no risk to public
safety.
No additional details are available at this time, however, should new information surface during the course
of the investigation, an update will be provided.
Drug Charges
On July 12th, 2016, Leduc RCMP responded to a
suspicious person complaint in the City of Leduc. During
the course of the investigation, police seized a loaded
handgun and a small quantity of Psilocybin.
John Miller of Leduc has been charged with multiple
firearms offences under the Criminal Code as well as
one charge under the Controlled Drugs and Substance
Act. He was released on a Recognizance for Leduc
Court.
Police are encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to please call the Leduc RCMP at

I’m wondering if you can suggest something that will remove the residue of the double sided tape from a window insulating kit that was left behind on my wooden
window frame after removing the plastic. I’ve tried the
commercial products, but they have not worked. Short
of sanding it off, which I hope to avoid, is there anything
that will remove this awful yellow stuff, which is now several years old? Margaret

Your best bet is to spray the area with WD-40. Let it sit
for 10-15 minutes and scrape with a plastic putty knife
and an abrasive cloth (not an S.O.S pad). After the area
is no longer sticky, make a solution of dish soap and
water and wipe the area well.
Bite Back Tips of the Week:
• When deterring mosquitoes DEET is the most aggressive remedy but not everyone chooses to use such
strong chemicals on their porous skin. You can make
your own mosquito repellent by combining the following into a spray bottle: 4 quarts (4 L) water, 4 tbsp. (60
mL) lemon dish soap, 2 tbsp. (30 mL) original Listerine.
Spray liberally (safe for small children).
• For the yard; instead of spraying poisons, burn citronella candles to repel the little critters. Or have a fan
blowing near where you are sitting (mosquitoes don’t
like wind).
• Spray the yard with garlic and water.
• Build a purple martin or bat house.
• For humans; use Caress soap, avoid wearing perfume. Wear light-colored clothing; eat an orange before
going outside (mosquitoes do not like the smell of citrus).
• Rub lemon soap or real Mexican vanilla or soybean
oil or Skin-So-Soft by Avon on exposed skin.
• For pets; dip a rope in eucalyptus oil, wrap in a bandana and tie around your pet’s neck.
• Mosquitoes do not like the smell of rosemary, marigolds and geraniums.
