This past year, Gesa has enjoyed tremendous
growth along with the successful merger of
Central Washington Federal Credit Union in
Yakima, Washington. This successful merger
marks the beginning of Gesa’s initiative to
expand its membership into other Eastern
Washington markets. As a result, our
Commercial Services Team will continue to
grow into other markets. One of our goals
for 2015 is to become a lead commercial lender in the Yakima market. Our
Commercial Services Team is truly one of the best in the region, and we
continue to be a community leader in providing the necessary capital to our
local businesses.

affect your business in 2015. Please remember that some of these proposals
may not be approved legislatively.

• Starting in 2015, businesses with more than 50 FTE employees in 2014
(or a combination of full-time and part-time employees equivalent to 50
FTE employees) must either offer a minimum level of health care coverage
to employees and their dependents, or pay the IRS Employer Shared
Responsibility payments for any FTEs who purchase coverage through a
marketplace and receive the premium tax credit.
• A proposal has been made that a portion of the tax increases on businesses

will be used to pay for a future cut in the corporate rate to 28 percent and for
manufacturing 25 percent. Future rate cuts for small businesses are mentioned
as well, but the budget does not mention details.

Twitter, blogging, and Instagram.
• Changes to the treatment of small businesses in regards to section 179

deductions have been proposed. The budget proposes to extend increased
expensing for small business. This is often known as section 179 deductions,
which allows a business to fully expense capital costs up to a certain dollar
amount. At the end of 2013, the section 179 allowable amount reverted back to
$25,000 of capital investments, down from $500,000. Correct treatment would
allow the full expensing of all capital investments.
•Analyze your business needs and
determine the appropriate social media
channels for them.
• The budget proposes the elimination of capital gains taxation on investments
in small business stock. This would help mitigate the bias against saving and
investment present in the current tax code. These types of changes should not
be limited to small businesses only. The budget proposes that S-Corporations
will be subject to self-employment tax.
SESSION 2-ADVANCED TRACK
•Develop a comprehensive social media
strategy that aligns with your business
objectives.
Please consult with your certified public accountant regarding these changes.
•Utilize advanced analytical tools for
evaluating your efforts.

SIGN Fracture Care
International
SIGN Fracture Care International is a humanitarian-focused, non-profit, charitable
organization founded in 1999 by local orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Lewis Zirkle. Dr. Zirkle
is passionate about working with orthopedic surgeons in disadvantaged nations
across the world, and he works with a dedicated community-oriented staff, willing to
travel and train other surgeons in the use of modern implants and current techniques.
“My favorite part about my job is the people I get to meet,” said Jeanne Dillner, CEO of
SIGN International. “I love watching, year after year, the progression made by the men
and women we help overseas.”

Today, Zirkle and his team travel the globe, hosting conferences and performing
surgeries; while doctors on the ground in these countries get invaluable experience
working on real-world cases with Zirkle and his team. With their unique motto, “We
walk the world,” SIGN has helped, to date, more than 140,000 patients in 52 countries
around the world, and Gesa Credit Union has been there right beside them.
SIGN has worked with Gesa Credit Union since 2010. Dillner points out that Gesa has
made the difference in how the organization processes their payments, and manages
their business accounts with Merchant Deposit Capture. Being a large non-profit
with complex needs, this business product has helped them streamline their banking
needs. Dillner appreciates the face-to-face communication and dedicated customer
service she gets at Gesa. “Gesa provides great personal attention. They connect with
their members easier than any other financial institution,” said Dillner.
Because of all the work that SIGN does overseas, Dillner found some services that
Gesa provides especially useful. She points out that relationships with community
businesses like Gesa Credit Union play an important role in their global mission.
In one extended overseas trip in particular, Gesa ensured a direct point of contact for
Dillner, so she could continue to address the organization’s financial needs while so
far from home.
“The SIGN Fracture Care International is truly a remarkable organization. Gesa is
committed to helping our local nonprofit organizations find economical solutions
for a growing organization’s banking needs. I have had the pleasure of working with
Deborah Maier, Senior Accountant, to find easy and economical ways to streamline
banking services to help save time and money. One example is our Merchant Deposit
Capture product. By allowing SIGN to remotely deposit their transactions directly
from their office location, the organization is saving staff time, and streamlining
the banking deposit and reconciliation process,” said Annamaria Sauceda, Cash
Management Representative.

“We chose Gesa Credit Union as our
financial partner because of their
persistence and helpfulness.”
