Day 1: Home City Snowshoe
Davis, West Virginia - This morning, hop on your deluxe motorcoach and
begin this wonderful journey to Davis, West Virginia.
Upon arrival, enjoy a tasty lunch at the Blackwater
Falls Lodge. After lunch, embark on a breathtaking
guided tour of Blackwater Falls State Park. The park
is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose
amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist
and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge. The
“black” water is a result of tannic acid from fallen
hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one
of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.
Later on, depart for The Inn at Snowshoe, located at
the base of Snowshoe Mountain, for a relaxing twonight stay. Dinner is included at the inn tonight. L, D
Day 2: Green Bank - Cass - Elkins
After breakfast, depart the inn for a guided tour of
the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO)
in Green Bank. The NRAO is a national facility
devoted to radio astronomy, and home to the world’s
largest fully steerable radio telescope, the Robert
C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope. Nestled in the West
Virginia mountains, this technological marvel rises
from the valley floor to a height of 485 feet, weighs
17 million pounds and sports a reflector 2.3 acres in
area. Next, depart the observatory for the charming
town of Cass. Travel back in time as you board a
carefully restored Shay locomotive and experience
the historic Cass Scenic Railroad. Huddled deep
in the mountains of West Virginia, Cass Scenic
Railroad transports you back to an era when
steam-driven locomotives were an essential part
of everyday life. Discover rich histories of the past,
unparalleled views of a vast wilderness area and
close-up encounters with the sights & sounds of
original steam-driven locomotives. Your train makes
a brief stop at Whittaker Station, then takes you
back to Cass for lunch on your own and free time to
shop and explore the museums.
This afternoon, return to the inn for some time to
relax before heading to the historic Graceland Inn
in Elkins. At Graceland, enjoy savory cuisine served
on world-renowned Homer Laughlin China in an
exquisite atmosphere. Following dinner, music
and laughter await you at the American Mountain
Theater; West Virginia’s first and only “Branson
style” music and comedy show where “the hills are
alive with the sound of music!” B, D
Day 3: White Sulphur Springs - Home City
