Welcome to the January 2009 edition of the McCartney.com newsletter.
(created by Martin Nethercutt)
Hello Francis,
Happy New Year!
2009 feels like a brand new start. With the inauguration of our
44th President Barack Obama, our country experienced an
historic event that is setting a new course for the future.
Despite all the recent global woes, America is once again
lighting the beacon of hope.
In the words of our friend John Burnes of BurnesCreative.com
"there will for sure be bugs in the system, but it feels like the
launch of America.2.0". John sure knows how to set the tone!
Before we charge ahead into a New Year, let's take a quick look
back on what happened in 2008. No, seriously.
Looking back...
From to having to adjust the World's clocks by one second due to the earth's
rotation slowing down, to gas prices acting like a bungee jumper, from the arrival of
a flurry of Hollywood twins (there must be something in the Evian... and is flurry the
collective noun for twins?) - what will 2009 bring?
After having lost 30% of the global wealth one thing is for sure, 2009 will be the
year where the tough, smart, nimble and hopeful will lead the way. And as in
every recession/depression there's also the upside of opportunity! McCartney
Multimedia has a whole host of ideas to help your business cut costs, become green
and keep smiling till the clouds clear. So.....enough of the past. Repeat after me...
I REFUSE TO BE DEPRESSED
I ESCHEW THIS CRAZY MESS
'COZ NO ONE WANTS TO BE AROUND
A PERSON WHO IS ALWAYS DOWN
So here's this month's issue:
Necessity is the Mother of Invention
As every small business owner knows, when competing for dollars gets tough, you
have to reinvent yourself to stay ahead of the game. That's why this month we want

to focus your attention to what you can do to streamline your business or project.
Over the years we have developed small business tools to make managing your
products and services on the web more efficiently. The Internet is still the most cost
effective and GREEN solution to market, advertise and most importantly maintain
your e-relationships, business, products and services.
Here are our 5 steps:
The McCartney.com five step economic survey:
Step 1:
Is your business web site up to date with the latest technologies? (Web 2.0,
Community Software, Blogging, etc.)
Step 2:
Can you be found? What happens when you type in the name of your business or
service in the search field at Google, Alta Vista, Ask.com or Yahoo!?
Step 3:
What is your Internet strategy? How can you reach more customers, drive more
traffic to your web site and increase revenue?
Step 4:
How do you routinely analyze your ad and marketing budgets and make informed
decisions on how to go about reaching your target audience?
Step 5:
Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance
How often do you blog, mass email or update your content?
We cannot express enough how important it is to keep your messaging in good
shape and up to date. We have many clients, we have produced hundreds of web
sites and the ones that are successful, maintain a constant dialogue with their
visitors, fans or customers. So, when you've done your own analysis, please feel free
to give us a call or send an email and we will evaluate your path to online success!

Houston Flashback
Houston's own 002 Houston Magazine featured an article
about Ruth in their December 08 issue
Excerpt:
"When you come to work with a new artist - and many
of them are already established - do you try and build on
how they're already presented in the media, or reflect
how they haven't been represented?"

"Well, as a company that primarily builds websites,
emerging artists don't have us build their websites
because they don't have a budget. But in creating iFanz,
what we've done is given them a tool that they can just
plug in that's free to join, and when you get success it's cheap to run - like a hosting
fee."

Restaurant of the Month
Anisette Brasserie
Santa Monica, CA
Alain Giraud is a familiar
personality in Santa Monica,
California. His accent has
reverberated throughout the
city's famed Farmer's Market for
years, his unwavering presence
proffering a passionate support
for his many friends, purveyors
and farmers that arrive each
week. "It's the sharing a cup of
coffee with the city's chefs, the
serious foodies that are our
customers, and the farmers that
are essential to our success. It
is the one moment of the week
that the stress and demanding
time constraints of the
restaurant momentarily
vanish...a leisurely time to
discuss cooking and trends, and
to build relationships with the farmers that we depend upon," begins Giraud. It is,
therefore, a testament to his professional vision that Chef Alain Giraud unveils
Anisette, a Brasserie in association with Tommy Stoilkovich and Mike Garrett of The
Falcon Group, mere steps from his beloved Santa Monica Farmer's Market.

About the movie
25-year-old Wes was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling
drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him
out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life
plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this
disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was
little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in
his slow, clock-punching rut.
Until he met a woman named Fox. After his estranged father is murdered, the
deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to
avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. Wes grows to enjoy all the
strength he ever wanted.
But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than
meets the eye. And as he wavers between new found heroism and vengeance, Wes
will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.

About Pierre de Villandry
Pierre de Villandry is a French born artist currently residing in Santa Monica,
California. Pierre studied under the master Paul Jouvé, a member of the prestigious
Academie Francaise des beaux-arts. Along with painting, Pierre is also a very
talented violinist who studied in both Paris and Brussels and played in orchestras
across Western Europe.
About “Tonalité Géométrique”
Musicality; passion; eroticism; and calming beauty
are all words which have been used to describe
Pierre's latest collection. His works (a collection of
30" x 48", 36" x 48" and 48" x 60" acrylics) carry
with them the inherent ability to harmonize the
local environments in which they are present.
Combining his love and knowledge of music and
art, Pierre has created a collection which he calls
Tonalité Géométrique, or Geometric Tonality.
Harmonic circles contrasting with melodic columns
lend a symphonic ear to the art viewer’s
experience. The dramatic canvases are large
enough to command a wall, either individually or in a series. The paintings show
wonderfully by themselves without the need for traditional framing.
Tyrell @ Catalina Bar and Grill
Jazzmeister Steve Tyrell returns to the Catalina Bar and Grill in
Hollywood in February 5th thru the 8th and again 12th thru the 15th.

Your Fanz Are Your Future
UR Label -Discover, Vol. 1
www.urlabel.net
The artists on this compilation prove that
you don't have to be signed with major
record label these days to make an
impact on the scene.
The founders of OnSeeker, an up and
coming search engine focused on
providing the most comprehensive clean
and safe search engine in the world,
were attempting to gain momentum and
attention to the OnSeeker site and came
up with the concept of OnSeeker music.
The founders drafted an email invitation to introduce the first contest for OnSeeker
music called "the Unveiling". Hundreds of bands uploaded a song for the competition
that was judged by Grammy winning producers and songwriters. The judges
narrowed the selection to the top six who were then invited to perform live in
Houston, Texas to compete for a mastered recording by a Grammy winning
producer, cash and a video. The concert was streamed live via the World Wide Web
and was a huge success. The production was so successful that the founders of
OnSeeker and four time Grammy winning producer Randy Miller saw an opportunity
to reshape the conventional music label and Unveiling Records was founded.
Unveiling Records then decided to take the "U" from unveiling and the "R" from
records and created "UR" (your).Unveiling records acquired OnSeeker music and
designed a virtual stage through URLABEL.net to seek, sign and promote the best
unsigned music talent around.

Book of the Month
Laird Hamilton - Force of Nature
In these interesting economic times (to say the
least), I came across this little gem, a physical
beacon of hope. World-renowned surfer Laird
Hamilton tells the story of how to stay
physically, mentally and spiritually strong during
these rather depressing times.
Laird Hamilton has been hailed as the world's
greatest big-wave surfer. His first book, Force

of Nature, allows readers a rare glimpse inside
the unique philosophy that has created his
circumstances, and not the other way around.
After all, this is a man whose biological father
abandoned him shortly after he was born;
whose first job was working on a pig far; who
dropped out of school in eleventh grade. And
then the career decision: surfer. Though
earning enough to pay the rent as any kind of
surfer is next to impossible, Hamilton has ended
up in the place we all desire to be: doing exactly what he loves, becoming the
world's best in the process, making a great living, being surrounded by nature and
family, radiating peak health and fitness, and succeeding by any definition of the
word. How did he get there? And more importantly, how can the rest of us join him?
Force of Nature is a detailed map to that destination, with Laird Hamilton as the
reader's guide. It's not about chasing trophies or accolades or cash. It's about
quality over quantity soul and being true to your physical, mental, and spiritual
roots. Not only is it possible to thrive in the modern world without adopting its
harmful habits, it's essential. And not only has Hamilton mastered this balance; he
makes a compelling and articulate case that anyone who wants to can do the same.
net.work news - spotlight on McCartney Clients and Net.work Members
Our dear friend Professor Tom Gillespie recently
published a study in the MIT International Review that
attracted a lot of media attention around the world. Here's
the article that was published in USA Today.
Where's bin Laden? Science may hold the answer
By Dan Vergano, USA TODAY
Fugitive terrorist Osama bin
Laden is most likely hiding
out in a walled compound
in a Pakistani border town,
according to a satelliteaided geographic analysis
involved in the hunt for bin
Laden, the al-Qaeda leader
released today. A research team led by geographer
Thomas Gillespie of the University of California-Los
Angeles used geographic analytical tools that have
been successful in locating urban criminals and
endangered species. Basing their conclusion on nighttime satellite images and other
techniques, the scientists suggest bin Laden may well be in one of three compounds
in Parachinar, a town 12 miles from the Pakistan border. The research incorporates

public reports of bin Laden's habits and whereabouts since his flight from the Tora
Bora region of Afghanistan in 2001.The results, reported in the MIT International
Review, are being greeted with polite but skeptical interest among people behind
9/11. Bin Laden's whereabouts are considered "one of the most important political
questions of our time," the study notes.
"I've never really believed the sitting-in-a-cave theory. That's the last place you
would want to be bottled up," Gillespie says. The study's real value, he says, is in
combining satellite records of geographic locations, patterns of nighttime electricity
use and population-detection methods to produce a technique for locating fugitives.
Essentially, the study generates hiding-place location probabilities. It starts with
"distance decay theory," which holds that the odds are greater that the person will
be found close to where he or she was last seen. Then the researchers add the
"island biographic theory, "which maintains that locales with more resources — palm
trees for tropical birds and electricity for wealthy fugitives — are likelier to draw
creatures of interest. "Island biographic theory suggests bin Laden would end up in
the biggest and least isolated city of the region," Gillespie says, one among about 26
towns within a 20-mile distance of Tora Bora. "To really improve the model, you
would need to include
intelligence data from 2001 to 2006," Gillespie says. "It has been eight years.
Honestly, I think it is time to be more open."

Gutenberg.com will follow this hot trend with one goal: MAKING SENSE OF IT ALL.
Right now, there are people “in the know”, in the industry, and we aim to make the

I find semi-skimmed milk is better than full cream. Some cooks use half and half
milk and water. Originally the pudding was cooked below the joint to soak up the
meat juices which dripped down from the shelf above. Nowadays the puddings are
often cooked in the top of the oven while the meat is resting and the puddings can
be served as a first course or as an accompaniment. We've got main course and
dessert recipes later.
Ingredients:
125g / 4oz sifted plain flour
a pinch of salt
1 large / 1 medium egg
300ml / half pint semi-skimmed milk
oil or melted dripping
Make sure the oven is hot - 220C / 475F
Method:
Using a wooden spoon, gradually beat the egg and milk into the flour and salt until
you have a smooth batter. Beat well and leave to stand.
Pour a little oil or dripping into each cup of a heavy gauge bun tin (I use a cast iron
American Popover Pan). Alternatively use a roasting tin for one large pudding. Place
in the hot oven to preheat for 5 minutes. Beat the batter again and decant into a
jug for speed. Without allowing the oil to cool, pour the batter into the hot pans,
half filling the cups. Bake for 12 - 20 minutes - depending on size - until puffed and
golden. Serve immediately.
Try not to open the oven door until they're done - glass doors are useful. If you
have to, just open it enough to take a quick peek.

TAXI DOLL
"LA-based band Taxi Doll is
described as a Rocktronica
outfit, but I prefer to think
of their vibe as “When
Blondie met Kylie.”
Lead singer, bombshell, and
all around pro, Dhana is a
mesmerizing, live action,
dancing queen with a pretty,
crisp voice and an
enchanting accent that’s one
part German, one part

She and her band of

Hello Francis,
Welcome to Spring! Although, actually here in Southern California right now it feels
more like arctic summer. We've had some tremendous winds howling through Playa
Del Rey with speeds up to 70 mph! Trees down, power lines down - pretty alarming
stuff for this neck of the woods.
So for all of you who are still covered with ice and snow, please let that be a small
consolation.
To thaw this edition we'll start with something - in the words of Buster Poindexter "hot hot hot" !

Events : 13th Annual UCLA Restaurant Industry Conference.
Thursday March 26th saw the gathering of restaurant industry professionals at The
Sheraton Gateway LAX, a great melting pot of information about the economic shift
in the hospitality industry as well as new technology, communication and a truly
amazing lunch speaker, followed by Q&A with the intrepid Chef Anthony Bourdain.
His topics ranged from the worst things he has ever put in his mouth (Dourian,
Icelandic fermented shark and Namibian Mongoose poop), to his passion for street
food and Vietnamese "Pho" - recipe to follow. His fear of Russia for the sheer
amount of alcohol one must consume on a daily basis so as not to insult the hosts,
to his wonderment as to why the "big box" restaurants have to fool with perfection...
" aaah yes, Caesar Salad - I know, rubbery chicken can only make it better!". Thank
you Madge Claybion, Deborah, Eddie, Brian (for the memorable photos now on our
wall of shame) and to all those who participated.

The Spitfire Grill - Santa Monica Airport, CA
A small eatery, the Lindaire Coffee Shop, was opened

on the present "Spitfire Grill " site in 1954 by a young
U.S. Air force Lieutenant who grew tired of hearing
his fellow pilots complain there was “no place to dine”
in the airport area. Breakfast and lunches were served
to nearby Douglas Aircraft workers and employees of
aviation related businesses at adjacent Clover Field.
Sometime later, Lindaire Coffee Shop became the
Kitty Hawk and Clover Field became the Santa Monica
Airport.
The Kitty Hawk was acquired in 1991 by John Clarizio
and renamed the Spitfire Grill in homage of Santa Monica's aviation history. Clover
Field was the base of operations of the Donald Douglas Aircraft factory located just
northwest of the present runway.
From the late 1920s, The Douglas factory was a major supplier of commercial
passenger planes as well as aircraft to the military and the Navy in particular. The
Douglas complex in Santa Monica was so large that the mail girls used roller skates
to deliver intracompany mail. During World War II, the entire factory was
camouflaged to foil potential air attacks from Japanese warplanes. Among the many
aircraft produced by Douglas were the famous DC-3 (A military version was called
the C-47 Skytrain), B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-47 Stratojet under license from
Boeing.
Clarizio remodeled his eatery in a 1940’s, Streamline Moderne airplane style
complete with a pilot’s cabin clubhouse. The Spitfire's interior was reminiscent of
early Donald Douglas model DC series commercial aircraft and with expansion of the
dining area in 1995, a distinct "bistro" feel emerged.
In 1996 writer/director Lee David Zlotoff, who had an office above the restaurant,
wrote and directed a motion picture titled "The Spitfire Grill" starring Ellen Burstyn,
Marcia Gay Harden, Allison Elliot and Will Patton. Although fictionally set in a small
rural town in Maine, the restaurant itself and characters based on Clarizio and a
veteran waitress were prominently featured in the film.
Today, the restaurant is filled with W.W.II military and Douglas Aircraft memorabilia,
although the landmark Douglas factory was demolished in 1975 to make way for the
Santa Monica Airport Business Park.
Spitfire Grill is in the process of expanding on the great history of the eatery and
creating “the best dining patio in Santa Monica.”

Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup)

If you can imagine beef noodle soup for breakfast, then you decidedly want to try
Pho, a Vietnamese dish that has been around for nearly 100 years.
Pho (pronounced "phir" in English) is influenced by the Chinese and French cuisines,
and was believed to have originally derived from a French soup, "pot au feu",(pot on
fire) which Wikipedia defines as a French beef stew. This is usually a mixture of cuts
of beef, vegetable, and spice.
Pho had its humble beginnings nearly 100 years ago, and at that time was basically
boiled beef, broth and noodles. It has since evolved into much more than that.
During the war in Vietnam, when beef became scarce, a pork version (pho lon)
evolved.
The combination of both French and Chinese occupation has led to a diverse, unique
cuisine that is admired by many. When the Vietnamese fled to the US in 1975, they
brought to the United States their unique cuisine and heritage. It is how Pho was
introduced to us...and it is after all Bourdain's fave dish of all time!
Assemble These Ingredients:
3 medium unpeeled yellow onions (approx 1 pound)
4-inch piece unpeeled ginger (approx 4 ounces)
5 to 6 pounds beef soup bones (leg and knuckle bones - have butcher cut into 2-3
in sections)
1 lb flank steak. cut into bite-sized pieces.
5 star anise
6 whole cloves
3-inch cinnamon stick
1 1/2 tablespoons salt
1/4 cup Hot chili sauce
2 tablespoons fish sauce
Freshly ground Black pepper
1 ounce rock sugar (duong phen) or 1
tablespoon white sugar
For The Bowl Itself:
1/2 lb sirloin or round steak
1 TBS Cilantro-chopped
2 14 ounce packages of small ( 1/8-inch wide)
dried or fresh banh pho noodles
2-3 scallions, with green tops sliced into small
rings.
2 cups fresh bean sprouts
2 Limes cut in wedges
1 bunch Fresh mint
1 bunch Fresh Asian or regular basil
2 Fresh chili peppers, thinly sliced (Thai dragon or bird preferred)
To Make The Broth:
Char 2 of the onions (reserve the other onion for bowl preparation) and ginger over
an open flame to release essential oils and fragrances. They do not need to be
blackened - only char to soften. (This can be done under a broiler if no open flame is
http://secure.ifanz.net/message.php?C=147&ID=0000024251&T=D

available). Remove skin and blackened pieces from onions and ginger, remove stem
ends from onions and discard. Set aside.
In a large stock pot, place leg bones and enough cold water to cover. Bring to a
rolling boil, and boil approximately 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat, and rinse under
cold running water. Thoroughly clean stock pot, and return cleaned bones to pot.
Add 6 quarts of water bring to a rolling boil, and reduce to a gentle simmer. Add
onions, ginger, star anise, cloves, cinnamon stick, cut up flank steak, salt, fish
sauce, and rock sugar. Simmer about 1 1/2 hours, and remove flank steak. (Steak
should be done through but chewy) Cool steak in bowl of cold water to keep it from
drying out and turning brown. Refrigerate flank steak. Continue simmering broth for
approximately 3 hours, skimming scum and fat from broth occasionally, and stirring
bones from time to time.
When done, strain broth through double-folded cheesecloth in a colander to remove
any impurities and pieces of tendon. Discard bones. To make preparation of Pho
much easier, refrigerate broth overnight. When cold, any excess fat can be easily
removed from the cold broth. The idea here is to have a very clear, fat-free broth.
To Prepare The Bowls:
Slice the sirloin or round steak against the grain in very thin slices.
(Freezing for a half-hour makes this easier)
Thinly slice cooked flank steak
Heat broth to boiling over medium heat.
Blanch noodles in 3-4 quarts of boiling water, and use a strainer to remove each
bowl portion. Blanching should only take about 10-20 seconds, until the noodles
have lost their stiffness, and are easily managed.
If using fresh noodles, simply untangle and rinse in cold water.
Blanch bean sprouts in same water until wilted but crunchy.
Fill each bowl approximately 1/4 full with noodles, place cooked flank steak and
slices of raw sirloin or round steak on top of noodles. Garnish this with sliced
scallions, thinly sliced onions, and chopped cilantro.
Ladle seasoned broth into bowl. The idea here is to have the boiling broth cook the
thinly sliced raw steak. Season with freshly ground black pepper.
A garnish plate is served with the completed Pho. It is customary for the diner to
pull the leaves from the stalk of the basil and mint to season their meal. Take thinly
sliced peppers, swirl them into the soup for added flavor. Add the slice of pepper if
you like it very spicy. Lime wedges are used to add a tartness to the soup. Bean
sprouts are also used as a garnish.I also like to finely slice white onion and drizzle
with spicy Sri Racha sauce and honey... the greatest thing about Pho is that
everyone at the table can have a different experience according to taste.

the spirit of the holiday with a very clever take on their logo.
Passages:
What a month of sudden change June was. Obviously, the entire world knows that
sadly,
The King of Pop, Michael Jackson is dead way too soon. His talent will be missed by
millions.
Charlie's Angel Farrah Fawcett has been called to rejoin heaven as a true Angel. Jay
Leno has passed the torch to Conan O'Brian. Johnny Carson's Number 2 banana Ed
McMahon, who was involved in Star Search, launching Britney Spears', Justin
Timberlake's and Ryan Seacrest's careers, has also left this mortal coil. #1 Pitchman
Billy Mays has also moved on. And there is no more Karl Malden on the Streets of San

Yulianna
Yulianna's life has always centered around music.
Her earliest memories are of her mother (herself an

Yulianna, adding with an exasperated grin, "and

then-U.S.S.R.
The fall of the Soviet Union in the 1990s brought
independence to Kazakhstan and opened the doors
for Yulianna's mother to come to the United States
in search of greater opportunities for herself and her
two young daughters. In 1996, Yulianna's family
settled in Southern California.
Shy, self-conscious and struggling to learn the language and customs of her new
home, Yulianna found solace – and a means of expression – in the world she knew
best: music. Already an accomplished violinist for her age, Yulianna continued to hone
her skills and started taking private voice lessons.
Upon graduating from high school, Yulianna was
accepted to the prestigious California Institute of
the Arts. It was at CalArts that Yulianna finally
began to find her "voice," both literally and
figuratively. Majoring in Vocal Performance,
Yulianna found the depth and breadth of the
CalArts musical community irresistible; she
applied her voice and talents to a broad range of
styles, ranging from classical to baroque, jazz,
pop, and the extended vocal techniques of
traditional World Music, while at the same time
drawing on those experiences to compose her
own songs and experimental pieces.
Encouraged by a family friend and vocal coach,
Yulianna discovered an aptitude for opera and
made it the primary focus of her studies. She
soon became an active participant and performer
in the opera community, working with
OperaWorks, SongFest and Bel Canto. Though
still a student, Yulianna won roles in several
productions and has performed on stage at Walt Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles,
as well as the Red Cat Theater and the Sidney Cohen Center with the San Luis Obispo
Symphony Guild.
Yulianna received her BFA in Vocal Performance from CalArts in 2004 and went on to
receive her Master's in 2006.
Yulianna still trains privately with internationally acclaimed Russian baritone Vladimir
Chernov, currently a Professor of Vocal Studies at UCLA) and sees the move as just
one step in her progression as an artist. Yulianna is working with McCartney and iFanz
to build an international fan base for what will surely be a lengthy career.

But did you know that his fan club was even bigger than Elvis Presley's or the

Hello Francis,
Hopefully all our Stateside readers enjoyed an extra Sunday for Memorial Day - but let
us not forget what it is all about... remembering both those now passed, and those in
active service who give their time and courage so that we can live in freedom. We
salute all the men and women of the armed forces of the USA and our allies for their
selfless service.
Now on to matters of entertainment, communication and media at hand. Here are
some of the projects and McCNetwork members' news which have kept us at
McCartney Multimedia (thankfully in these times) gainfully employed...
"Early Bird Special TV"©
L to R Bill Burgin, Carol Andersen, Irene Bryant, Dorothy Bamber and Ed Stampfli.
Early Bird Special is a show about seniors having fun and finding love again, with some
drama of course. The ladies would tell you they are looking for love. The chaps - as
ever - would tell you they are just looking for fun. Whichever side of this never-ending
argument you sit on, it is proof that "Life Begins at 80". No Botox - no B.S. Real
people. Real stories. Real life. We could all learn something from their spirit. Follow

Well it finally arrived!
After almost 3 years in production (the wait
was worth the while, I can assure you.) Mike
Peters Guitars delivered my custom built
12-String Koa guitar.
It is a fantastic instrument. Light in weight,
tone hold up to 10 seconds, this guitar is
truly one of a kind.
I used to play a lot of 12 string on stage and
so the muscle memory is coming back to my
fingers. It's like welcoming an old friend, never mind the calluses. Anyway, look for a
coming recording of it soon.
From Michael's site:
"My goal as a luthier is to craft a powerful
guitar with character and beauty of tone.
The guitar I build is typically a big sounding
concert instrument that has a warm focused
tonality with color and balance. They have
the feel and response to accommodate
different playing styles, technique, and
repertoire.
The way I accomplish this is by carefully crafting the guitars to very fine tolerances in
thicknesses, weights, and how components are fit together. I also believe that the
careful design and adjustment of the bracing layout plays a crucial role in optimizing
the efficiency of the tops vibration. Essentially I combine my intuition with how I
understand a guitar to work. "
Meanwhile, check out Mike Peters' site.
Artist of the Month
Aelita Andre
She is an abstract expressionist painter who
began painting before she could walk. At age 1
she completed all the works in her first show.
Like many other kids, she began by painting
on large sheets of paper in her play-group.
Her father, Michael Andre and Mother Nikka
Kalashnikova (who shares a birthday with
Ruth) paint as a hobby.
When her father placed one of his canvases on
the floor to paint, Aelita crawled onto it and

began dabbing and smearing the paint with
such a conviction and passion that her father
let her alone to continue. He placed another
canvas beside his on the floor and let her
paint on her own.
Her works are so vivid and expressive; so full
of energy and depicting amazing subjects. "As
soon as she finished her first acrylic on canvas,
I saw the MIR Russian Space Station
surrounded by cherry blossoms. It was just so
poignant and evocative".
The question of intention is just not relevant. What matters is the impact on the viewer
- admiration and pleasure the works evoke and the discoveries each viewer makes
within the works.
Check out all of her works here...
Christian's Corner
From January to May Christian taught
a class (for the first time ever!) at
OTIS College of Art and Design in web
design and marketing strategies.
In this class Christian taught design
fundamentals, technological how-to
with Dreamweaver and Flash, usage of
online tools such as iFanz.com and
Google Analytics, and how to create a
database of clients and customers.
Basically all the same stuff he does at
the office! Many of these students
were graduating seniors but there
were also many juniors and few
sophomores.
In addition to teaching this class, Christian also participated as a keynote speaker at
the annual OTIS Senior Seminar event where he spoke for 2 hours to the entire
graduating senior class on web design fundamentals and how to create an online
portfolio to appeal to HR managers and potential employers. Christian had a great time
this semester teaching a wonderful bunch of students and was truly honored to have
had this experience at such a distinguished institution.

Directions:
Place the cabbage, carrots, snow peas, bell pepper, scallions, and apple in a large
mixing bowl.
In a small bowl, mix together the ginger, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, lime juice,
sesame oil, hot chili paste, and sugar. Whisk until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the
dressing over the vegetables and toss to mix evenly. Let sit for about 30 minutes,
tossing occasionally, to allow the vegetables to absorb the flavors of the dressing.
Serve, garnished with the sesame seeds or peanuts.

If you fancy pampering yourself I strongly recommend this hideaway. There is gated

night, and a magnificent view of the San Jacinto mountains and twinkling lights of Palm

(created by Martin Nethercutt)
Hello Francis,
For those of you Stateside - Happy Independence Day. For those of us who are British
- never-mind - we kinda lost that argument;). Once again this year, Google™ got into
the spirit of the holiday with a very clever take on their logo.
Francisco.

It seems as if the stars of the 70's have reminded us that an era has come to an end.
Below is a glimpse of how MJ used one of our client's paintings (The Boy In The Moon
by Robert Florczak ) for the visitor's map to the Neverland Ranch.
But, staying positive, as you must, there's
also the dawning of new era:
Sports: Kobe Bryant won an NBA
Championship without Shaq. Go Lakers!!!
Politics: Iranian Twitter messages, YouTube
videos and digital media have been
responsible for lifting the political veils of
secrecy, nothing is able to be hidden any
more, everything is in the now, and
instantly published!
Instantaneous access to news from all
around the globe means that you can sit on
the highest peaks in Nepal and still know
what's going on in the rest of the world with
a click of your mouse or smart phone.
What does it all mean? When everyone
knows what you know, and you know what
everyone knows, it's time to reflect what
you really have to say about the world, yourself.
Careful and considerate messaging is the way of the future.
Actually, at McCartney we are developing a program to get you "off the internet"! More
on that next month.

New Star:
Yulianna
Yulianna's life has always centered around music.
Her earliest memories are of her mother (herself an
accomplished musician and author) playing Chopin
while Yulianna toddled at her feet. Born in the city
of Almaty, Kazakhstan ("Yes, that Khazakstan," says
Yulianna, adding with an exasperated grin, "and
please, no "Borat" jokes – I've heard them all!"),
Yulianna began violin lessons at the age of six and
quickly distinguished herself in competitions and as
a member of a children's group performing in the

then-U.S.S.R.
The fall of the Soviet Union in the 1990s brought
independence to Kazakhstan and opened the doors
for Yulianna's mother to come to the United States
in search of greater opportunities for herself and her
two young daughters. In 1996, Yulianna's family
settled in Southern California.
Shy, self-conscious and struggling to learn the language and customs of her new
home, Yulianna found solace – and a means of expression – in the world she knew
best: music. Already an accomplished violinist for her age, Yulianna continued to hone
her skills and started taking private voice lessons.
Upon graduating from high school, Yulianna was
accepted to the prestigious California Institute of
the Arts. It was at CalArts that Yulianna finally
began to find her "voice," both literally and
figuratively. Majoring in Vocal Performance,
Yulianna found the depth and breadth of the
CalArts musical community irresistible; she
applied her voice and talents to a broad range of
styles, ranging from classical to baroque, jazz,
pop, and the extended vocal techniques of
traditional World Music, while at the same time
drawing on those experiences to compose her
own songs and experimental pieces.
Encouraged by a family friend and vocal coach,
Yulianna discovered an aptitude for opera and
made it the primary focus of her studies. She
soon became an active participant and performer
in the opera community, working with
OperaWorks, SongFest and Bel Canto. Though
still a student, Yulianna won roles in several
productions and has performed on stage at Walt Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles,
as well as the Red Cat Theater and the Sidney Cohen Center with the San Luis Obispo
Symphony Guild.
Yulianna received her BFA in Vocal Performance from CalArts in 2004 and went on to
receive her Master's in 2006.
Yulianna still trains privately with internationally acclaimed Russian baritone Vladimir
Chernov, currently a Professor of Vocal Studies at UCLA) and sees the move as just
one step in her progression as an artist. Yulianna is working with McCartney and iFanz
to build an international fan base for what will surely be a lengthy career.

Hello Francis,
Well summer is finally officially over and we all trust you had a great Labor Day
weekend. Did you know that today, September 9, 2009 is the 252nd day of the year
and that 252 adds up to 9? On top of that, 09.09.09 falls on a Wednesday and both
the words Wednesday and September have 9 letters. This date is so rare that it is the
last of the single digit dates for another 1001 years.
We have been busy with a ton of new projects that are currently in development, so we
will be bringing them to you in Q4. Many of you have been wondering how we did in
these terrible Southern California wild fires. Well, thankfully we are fine and everyone is

it's deja vu for SoCal residents...

Wildfires in Southern California
(Alan Taylor)
Angeles National Forest, in the hills outside of Los Angeles currently has several
wildfires tearing through it, the largest of which - named the Station Fire - has so far
burned over 140,000 acres, destroyed nearly 100 structures, and claimed the lives of
two firefighters whose vehicle fell from a road into a steep canyon. Evacuation orders
are in place for thousands in communities around the city, and residents of Los Angeles
itself are contending with thick smoke and ash hanging in the air, causing air quality to
drop to unhealthful levels in many parts. Currently, the Station Fire is estimated to be

by our dear friend Bill Kelly, Esq.
The whole boat is a floating Holiday Inn
with an Olive Garden in the lobby. There
were, of course, the mandatory Holiday

the Magic Tones" each night. Excursions,
entertainment, food and basically
everything on the boat are all geared for
the consumptive simpleton who will never
be able to save one buck in his 401k so
long as he can "save" 30% buying 4 or 5
$39 watches (normally $149!), and cartons of duty free cigarettes and perfume. I
swear, I thought I was on a floating Wal Mart. I actually saw PT Barnum in a Carnival
uniform. Every 20 yards there is a photographer trying to snap you in front of a fake
scenic canvas backdrop so that he can sell you an 8x10 glossy of it with the ship logo
blazed across the front. You cannot get on or off the boat without being harangued by

a photographer to “SMILE, GET TOGETHER, SMILE HERE IS YOUR TICKET, ON SALE
LATER” but I DON'T WANT TO SMILE YOU FARGING PARAIAH GET AWAY FROM US, WE
JUST WANT TO GET TO THE BAR.
Oh, I almost forgot, the boat had an "art auction" and tried to pass off paint-bynumber oil on canvas as "art." They put fake art critics in fake business suits to offer
fake opinions about the fake art on an in-room shopping channel that ran 24/7. The
"art" at Pier One and Bed, Bath Beyond discount bins will be more culturally significant
than these painted posters.
Food was exceptional, if you are an aficionado of our nation's highest starch content
cafeteria food. The menus are all geared for democrats who like making mini-mountFuji replicas on each of their plastic (yes plastic) plates. (Overheard: "Mom, what's
duck taste like, 'cause I might order it with the veal parmesan." "I have no idea, baby,
and I don't want to know." "I bet it tastes like ham.") I tasted my daughter Kate's veal
parmesan. It was microwaved veal patty from Stouffer's.
Drinks range from $6 beers to $12 highballs, making the required drunk to endure this
adventure voyage of humanity absolutely cost prohibitive. I did have Percocet on hand
which mixed well with Maker's Mark, the absolute highest calibre bottle of anything on
the whole boat. The sole "pool" on board resembled the kind of above ground pool a
redneck lost uncle in Flagstaff might install next to his double wide. Every hot tub on
board was closed down and covered in yellow tape, a reminder of a recent crime scene
or a tribute to legionnaire’s disease, I don't know.
Live music, comedy, and dance shows were bested by a young Baptist woman
passenger singing karaoke last night. I kid you not, I have no idea who the lead
singer-actress on the crew was, but I trust her talents are best demonstrated on the
casting director, but not on stage. The 1950's musical piece was set in a diner and
garnished with poodle skirts for the gals and a tribute to early-iconic Brando for the
guys. Following a 3 minute 50's montage set to Bill Haley's "Rock around the Clock" -I could not make this up -- the first number that the poodle-Brando-diner set
performed was Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild." Someone lost their calendar, but we
were certainly the only ones to notice. As you know, I don't like people.
This was a sea of humanity... at sea. Hence, I gave serious thought to jumping
overboard. But Mary and I had a penthouse suite and our own private balcony. I read
2 books and kept away from others. We used the balcony very often, as our room had
the smell of old cigarettes/cigars pumped into our room through the air ducts about half
the time, making our whole room smell like an old ash tray (not fresh smoke, as in a
small concealed bar room, but more like that same room the next morning after no one
cleaned any of the ash trays). And when the ducts were not pumping "Eau du Keep
Movin'" into our room (which we started to call "The Swisher Suite") -- and again I
could not make this up -- there was an odor that resembled skunk being poured into
our vents. We propped-open our door while at sea most every day for fresh air, which
also meant fresh sea water all over our bed spreads and curtains. But the sodium was
better than the smell.
The ship had 50 VIPs that were to disembark and get through customs first, of which
we were a part. The "VIP" group got left in the library off the main deck for an hour,
as literally thousands queued up and began disembarking; we watched from behind a
wall of glass in utter disbelief. We had been left behind because someone "forgot."
Eventually, I dubbed myself spokesman to handle this. I overheard someone say, "Is he

going to go check on us?" and I heard my wife reply, "Yes. I feel very sorry for
someone down there." We got off very quickly after my brief visit to the hold. Before
any accusations of being all-negative, I hasten to note that the ship never crashed and
the veal parmesan does indeed taste like ham.
Recipe of The Month
Vichyssoise
Few people realize that Vichyssoise, the cold
potato leek soup with the French name, was
invented, not in Paris or Lyons or even in Vichy,
France, but in New York City at the beginning of
the 20th Century. It was 1917 and the
fashionable Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Madison Avenue
at 46th Street was about to open a new roof
garden restaurant.
The head chef was a Frenchman named Louis
Diat (1885-1957). He often made a potato and
leek soup from a recipe given him by his mother,
Annette Alajoinine Diat, and he was preparing to
serve it at a party celebrating the opening of the
roof garden.
Whether, according to legend, the soup, prepared in advance, wasn't re-heated in time
to be served as a first course, or whether the day was warm and Chef-de-Cuisine Diat
felt culinarily creative, he added cream to his mother's soup recipe and served it cold,
sprinkled with chopped chives.
He called it Creme Vichyssoise Glacee, or Chilled Cream Vichyssoise, in honor of the
town where he was born. The original Ritz-Carlton has long since been demolished but
Vichyssoise lives on. During World War II some patriotic chefs tried to change the
name to "Creme Gauloise Glacee" because in 1940 a government collaborating with the
Nazis was set up in the French town of Vichy. Nevertheless, the name Vichyssoise
persisted, although nine out of ten, if not ninety-nine out of a hundred, Americans
mispronounce it. The proper French pronunciation is "vee shee swahzz" and NOT "vee
shee swah" because an "e" after the final "s" signals a "zzz" sound.
The soup's popularity doubtless comes from the fact that even in the hottest weather
one can enjoy a bowl of soup and find it refreshing. For many years Lord and Taylor's
department store Soup Bar featured only a bowl of Vichyssoise and a piece of apple pie
for lunch all summer long, and while New Yorkers often waited three deep for a place
at the counter, few of them realized the recipe originated only 11 blocks away.Although
the original recipe calls for straining the cooked vegetables through a sieve, today's
cooks most often use a blender. It also calls for both "single table cream" and "double
whipping cream," but today we would use "half-and-half" (or "light cream") and "heavy
cream." The following modern recipe was apparently sanctioned by Louis Diat when he
was a regular contributor to Gourmet Magazine:

CREME VICHYSSOISE GLACEE
INGREDIENTS
4 leeks, the dark green tops discarded and the leeks split lengthwise, washed well, and
chopped coarse (about 2 1/2 cups)
1 onion, chopped
1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
2 russet (baking) potatoes, peeled, diced (about 3 cups) and reserved in 4 cups water
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups milk
2 cups half-and-half or light cream
1 cup heavy cream
white pepper to taste
thinly sliced fresh chives for garnish
METHOD
In a kettle cook the leeks and the onion in the butter, covered, over low heat, stirring
occasionally, until they are softened. Add the potatotes with the water and the salt
and simmer the mixture, covered, for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the potatoes are soft.
Add the milk and the half-and-half and bring the mixture just to a boil, stirring. In a
blender, puree the mixture in batches and strain it through a very fine sieve into a
bowl. Stir the cream and the white pepper into the soup and chill the soup. This recipe
makes about 11 cups, serving 8 to 10.

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week, which I quote: "If
you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of
operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm
death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.
The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period.
That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and killed in the US
capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US , than you are in
Iraq ...
Conclusion: The US should pull out of Washington, DC.

Introducing "Hundred Watt Head" the new album
release from Neil Merryweather.
If you like Springsteen, Bowie, Genesis and Tom
Petty then Hundred Watt Head is for you!
A few weeks prior to working on the first Lita Ford
record Neil met Dusty Watson and set up studio
time to record some new song ideas. Neil brought
in ex Space Rangers bandmate Jamie Herndon to
play guitar and keyboards. Jamie had just finished
the " Hot Child in The City " recording and touring
with Nick Guilder and was free to join the new
alliance. The trio clicked and they recorded ten new songs in a few sessions. Neil called
the band "Hundred Watt Head". Dusty was recruited by Lita Ford and later Neil was
brought in to manage, produce and eventually play bass for Lita. "Hundred Watt Head"
was put on the back burner until the boys reunited years later at Neil's studio and
began jamming and recording again. The band got together many times over the
years and recorded over fifty tunes. Fellow musicians and friends after hearing the
music persuaded Neil to release a "Hundred Watt Head" CD. Neil connected with
McCartney Multimedia to build his first web-site and met Ruth McCartney and Martin
Nethercutt. Neil signed with their label iFanz records and is happy to say that the
first "Hundred Watt Head" has been released in August.
Here's what Neil had to say about it:

Though I was barely 20 and a complete novice, it somehow went very well.
I decided to pursue this lucky break, and have gone on to interview – on radio and TV,
public and commercial - some of the most extraordinary creative artists - known and
unknown - in the World. Some of these are recalled and described in my book, "The
Art of the Interview" And I’m still at my post, continuing with brand new interviews,
using the medium to expand my horizons - and hopefully yours as well.
MartinPerlich.com will offer these NEW INTERVIEWS on an on-going series of Podcasts
(coming soon) – concentrating on New Music and other Innovative arts from
composers, performers, and major contributors from many genres. Plus the best of my
Interview Archive. Including - for the 1st time - my Intermission Interviews from the
CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA broadcast concert series (1965-69) Emil Gilels, Darius
Milhaud, Julian Bream, Robert Shaw, the Casadesus family, and many more."

Oleta Adams at a glance:
Since the runaway success of her 1990 debut album Circle of One, and the
impassioned hit single "Get Here",
Oleta Adams has inspired a growing legion of fans in the U.S. and Europe with journeys
of the heart via songs that draw deeply from her roots in many forms of music. Her
success has been solidified by four Grammy nominations and a seemingly bottomless
well of creative energy.
A long-time resident of Kansas City, Kansas, where she has found sanctuary from the
turmoil of the entertainment industry, Oleta Adams also remains anchored by her
upbringing in the Pacific Northwest. With the help of Coach Lee Farrell she wound up in
Kansas City, where she launched her career playing piano in bars, hotel lounges, and
showrooms After performing for many different celebrities, serendipity finally came in
the form of the British band Tears for Fears, whose frontmen Roland Orzabal and Curt
Smith asked her to appear on their 1989 "The Seeds of Love' album, video and
European tour.
With seven CDs, and one soon to come, Oleta's musical odyssey continues – spiritually
and creatively. For this consummate artist-composer-producer-musician, many goals
remain on the horizon.

What Makes 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about
those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those
meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 103%?
What makes up 100% in life?
Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:
If:
A thru Z is represented as: 1 thru 26.
Then: H-A-R-D-W-O-R-K 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%
And
K-N-O-W-L-E-D-G-E 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%
But ,
A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100%
And,
B-U-L-L-$-#-!-T 2+21+12+12+19+8+9+20 = 103%
AND, look how far this method will take you.
A-$-$-K-!-$-$-I-#-G 1+19+19 +11+9+19+19+9+14+7 = 118%
So, one can conclude with mathematical certainty, that while hard work and knowledge
will get you close, and attitude will get you there, its the BS and donkey kissing that
will put you over the top.

His most recent work was with Anna Vissi and her Greek album, “Apagorevmeno”.
With 40 years in the entertainment industry, Ladanyi has contributed to various highend projects, with his work leading to 16 Grammy nominations, being directly
nominated three times. He won a Grammy Award in 1982 for Best Engineered
Recording – Non-Classical with Toto’s, “Toto IV” and nominated for Producer of The
Year for Don Henley’s “The Boys Of Summer” and Jaguares, Best Rock Album, “Bajo El
Azul de Tu Misterio” at the 1st Annual Latin Grammy Awards.
As president of Maple Jam Music Group, Ladanyi evolved the company from the original
Maple Jam Records label founded in 2004 to a full service entertainment entity that
works hand-in-hand with the artist to fully develop their careers. As a home to many
established and up-and-coming artists we will continue to move forward, keeping Greg
Ladanyi’s legacy alive.

Dear Francis,
This month's issue comes to you from New York City.
New York, New York
The New York Trip
(Ruth and Martin's 11th Wedding Anniversary)
Thanks to Donny Dale and his VIP Travel Concierge services, we flew Virgin America
Airlines to New York and it was a great experience. Sitting in the blue and pink-lit
cabin, it felt more like a club than an Airplane. Special thanks to William M. at LAX
and Mohammed K. at JFK for the 5-star treatment. No wonder Chelsea Handler loves
you guys;).
Arriving late at night and checking into the Hudson Hotel on Columbus Circle, the
party began immediately. After a long journey, we found ourselves hungry and had a
Jones for pastrami sandwiches, which we found at the "Flame" diner across the
street at 3 AM.
Waking up WAAAY too early, we made
our way to the Clinton Foundation in
Harlem the next morning. I was amazed
at the overall serenity that has come over
the city ever since 9/11.
Okay, so you still get the occasional NY
wise guys, but all in all New York has
become safe, and a sort of Gourmet
Disneyland for tourists from all over the
globe.
Meeting with the Clinton Foundation folks was a great experience, and we were awed
to be in the boardroom with all the President's awards, trophies and accolades.
Thanks Valerie, Neil and Kristen for making us so welcome.
After Harlem, sadly having no time to sample soul food at Sylvia's, we took the
Subway down to Battery Park to meet with our dear friend Mark Elenowitz from

have been 69. A large crowd had
gathered around the "Imagine Memorial"
and there were tears and singing at the
same time. This was of course a very
emotional moment for Ruth to say the
least. When the crowd sang "Imagine"
the sun broke through the clouds and it
was as if John was smiling down from
Heaven.
After that, we stopped for an excellent
thin crust Pizza near Columbus circle at
Cafe Fiorello and just watched the people walk by. We actually saw a man pushing a
small clothes dryer on a bicycle. I don't usually take MINE out for a stroll. Maybe I'm
missing something. When you live in Los Angeles you're not used to the
overwhelming amount of humanity that's coming at you from every angle. It can be
exhausting for sure. Back at the hotel, we decided it would be wise to scout out the
Russian Tea Room for next evening's Cragan/Moroney wedding. Asking for directions
we laughed at the old joke: "Excuse me, can you tell me how get to Carnegie Hall?
"..." Yes, Practice, practice, practice!"
Finding the RTR, you were immediately reminded of the old New York, doormen, top
hats and the old style of life. After a couple of "Cosmonauts" we headed back to the
hotel and fell over. It is safe to say that this was one of the longest days of my life!
The next morning (our anniversary), we
met up with Paul Antonelli at the famous
"Les Halles" restaurant. Since my wife is a
giant "foodie", Anthony Bourdain's old
stomping ground was a "must".
After some nice Pate and Eggs Benedict,
we headed back to get changed for the big
event: The Cragan/Moroney wedding.
The ceremony was very romantic and
touching. We met a lot of old and new
friends and the Vodka and Caviar bars and the live orchestra helped the 178 strong
wedding crowd to get into the swing of things. Of course, Ruth had to perform
"Maybe I'm Amazed" for the Bride and Groom, and we partied until they threw us out
with our red velvet cupcakes in hand. We wish Cara and Michael all the best. Next
year is going to be 10/10/10 and hopefully we'll spend it together with Cara and
Michael now that we share an anniversary!
The next morning we were invited to the Hudson Hotel post-wedding breakfast on
the roof and it was a sunny cold day and Ruth took lots of pictures of the beautiful
view.

We met up with client Corbin Bleu in
"Little Italy" at Civetta Restaurant.
Remodeled, and with exquisite service
and patronage, it's an up and coming
place that literally makes it's own soda

(Picture: Martin and Corbin in Little Italy)
Heading back we got a call from Paul
Antonelli and met up at Planet Sushi at
78th and Amsterdam. After lots of
laughing and too much fish, we grabbed
a cab and guess what?
We wound up at the "Flame" again across from our Hotel. The waiters now knew us
by name and everyone had a great time. Ruth - who is not a sushi fan - was hungry
so we watched her devour some Greek salad and garlic bread. Amazingly enough,
during the trip, we each lost 4lbs!
Okay, next morning, time to check out and back to reality. We headed out to JFK
and were greeted by Mohammed K. the VIP service director for Virgin America.
Enjoyed a burger and some Tika Masala on the house at the VIP lounge (excellent
food and service) and flew back to L.A. on the always flawless Virgin.
Overall, it was an amazing trip, so many visuals crammed into 4 ultra long days and
nights, that just remembering everything and writing it down makes me want to go
back to bed for an extended nap.
So, if you ever in New York then check out these places and sights and don't forget

Happy Birthday Roseanne!
Our friend and client Roseanne shares a birthday with Christian Volquartz, so last
Tuesday saw us dancing in her living room to the piano stylings of her partner
Johnny Argent. We ate delicious chocolate cake by James Moore (see recipe section
below), danced the conga and a good time was had by all. We were even joined by
the legendary Phyllis Diller, who at a feisty, martini-drinking 92, makes Angie's upcoming 80th celebration look like a kids' tea party! Ruth asked her if she would mind
posing for a picture to which the classic reply was "sure honey but let's move away
from this plant - I don't want it to look like there's something growing out of my
wig!"

Pork Tenderloin Medallions with Port Wine Sauce and Dried Cherries
Serve this with a baked sweet potatoes and green peas. Dried cranberries or chopped
dried apricots can be substituted for the cherries.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 pork tenderloins (about 1 pound each), silver skin removed, cut into 1-inch slices,
each pounded to 3/4 inch with flat side of chef's knife blade
3 tablespoons olive oil
3/4 cup port
1/2 cup dried sweet cherries
1 1/2 cups low sodium chicken broth
2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary
1 tablespoon cold butter
Method:
1.
Sprinkle salt and pepper over both sides of pork
slices. Heat oil until shimmering in large heavybottomed pan, at least 10 inches across bottom, over medium-high heat, swirling pan
to distribute oil. Working in batches of no more than six slices to avoid overcrowding,
sear medallions without moving them until brown on one side, about 2 minutes (oil
should sizzle, but not smoke). Turn medallions with tongs to avoid scraping off the
sear; sear until meat is mostly opaque at sides, firm to the touch, and well browned,
about 1 1⁄2 - 2 minutes. Transfer pork to plate.
2.
Set pan in which pork was cooked over medium-high heat; add port and
cherries. Boil, scraping pan bottom with wooden spatula to loosen browned bits, until
liquid reduces to about 6 tablespoons, 3 to 4 minutes. Increase heat to high; add
broth, rosemary, any accumulated pork juices; boil until liquid reaches consistency of
maple syrup, about 2-3 minutes. Add butter and stir to blend; season with salt and
pepper to taste.
3.
Reduce heat to medium; return pork to pan, turning meat to coat. Simmer to
heat pork through and blend flavors, about 3 minutes. Adjust seasonings. Transfer
pork to serving plate and spoon sauce over meat. Serve immediately.

Welcome to the December Edition of the McCartney.com newsletter.
(created by Martin Nethercutt)
Dear Francis,
Happy Holidays! We hope that you are getting some much needed rest after a very
turbulent year 2009! Recently, we've had reason to celebrate too.
Our very own Matriarch Angie McCartney turned 80 years young a few weeks ago, and
we just adopted two new furry additions to the McCartney Clan. Meet Butch (L) and
Sundance (R)... as babies make 4 along with a slightly confused Thelma and Louise.
And if maybe you think all we do over here is party, we are VERY pleased to announce
that we are working with 2 very large public companies on some fairly stealth projects
which you will hear more about in 2010. But that's what NDA's are for!

Well, the good folks at VA invited us to be part of the inaugural flight to FLL (Fort

Miller it was VIP all the way! The in-flight service was fantastic and fun. They were

After a relatively short flight, 4 1/2 hours, we arrived to be greeted by a water canon
salute by the Master himself, Sir Richard and the Broward County Fire Department!
Thanks to all the sponsors, VeeV, Bare Escentuals, Karma and Patron, we arrived
refreshed and golden in Florida. The guest services at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale
were nothing short of amazing and we had a great time! Beautiful rooms with vistas to
die for. There was a party by the hotel pool and we even had cheese burgers at 3:00
am. We danced with the cast of Hairspray from the world's largest cruise ship Oasis of
the Seas and m sure glad that we took the evening flight back. Thanks to everyone at

The acting is brilliant. Morgan Freeman and Matt

It's very interesting to see how Clint Eastwood

with the changes facing a new South Africa. If

Steve Tyrell Live at Cafe Carlyle
Jazz legend Steve Tyrell is releasing a new album just in
time for the holidays. It's a limited edition and
McCartney friends and family have the opportunity to
pre order the CD now!
Go to www.stevetyrell.com for more information.
Every recording artist has one album that they are
destined to make - an album so singularly in-sync with
their sensibility and history that its’ making smacks of
pure destiny. For Steve Tyrell - the distinguished
Grammy winner and Emmy nominated purveyor of pop
standards, as well as a behind the scenes impresario that album is Back to Bacharach, a deeply personal
collection of songs from the piano of Burt Bacharach and the pen of Hal David.
For music lovers the world over, songs like "The Look of Love," "Walk On By," "Close to
You," "A House Is Not a Home" and "Alfie" are indelibly bound to our DNA, haunting
strands of melodious memories that bring forth a flood of emotions and associations.
For Steve Tyrell, they represent milestones in a distinguished career and the joys and
pains of his own personal life. It is because of his close proximity to the songs and
their creators that Steve is able to bring something unique to his versions while being
fortunate enough to include Dionne Warwick, Herb Alpert and 2008 Grammy Award
winner Patti Austin well as Bacharach himself, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, and Martina

Please help me in supporting the Starlight Children's Foundation by bidding on this shirt

Our dear old friend from way back, Ivan Goldman has a
new book: EXIT BLUE
Ivan Goldman envisions a riotous near future in which the
Blue States have seceded and formed their own union
following a disastrous US invasion of Denmark, now
deemed the central front in the war on terror.
It's one of several conflicts being waged by a zealous Red
Zone government in Washington that reportedly dispatches
press gangs to fill military ranks while its citizens flee to
Mexico seeking employment as domestics and busboys.
Tossed into this maelstrom is ghost writer Delmore
LeCorte, who becomes romantically entangled with both
the Red Zone president and her more astute sister.
Learning secrets he'd rather not know, LeCorte is pursued by a deranged vice president
who reportedly rules his domain from a lair deep beneath the Rockies and a ruthless
Blue Zone senator who's the love child of a famously randy Democratic ex-President.
It's left to the reader to decide whether Exit Blue is inventive political satire or a
prescient look at more divisive times ahead. (Now available on Amazon)

Thanks for pitching in for the continued well-being of 28 wonderful horses.
Sincerely,
There. That's it.
Just so you know, if we can get a couple hundred people to donate ten bucks apiece, it
would provide us with enough hay for over two months.
Thank you very much, in advance, for helping us.

Angie's One Liners
After hearing two eyewitness accounts of the same
accident, you begin to wonder about the entire account of
world history.
A good marriage is like a casserole: only those involved
actually know what goes into it.
The hard thing about business is minding your own.
The best way to have the last word is to apologize.
An interesting study
A study conducted by Glasgow University's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that
the type of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she
is in her cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged
and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to
be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his
chest while he is on fire.
No further studies are expected.
