2012-2013
Annual Report – from March 31, 2012 to March 30, 2013
This is a report on the activities carried out by the Marie-Vincent Foundation between March 31, 2012
and March 30, 2013. People looking for additional information about the Foundation can visit us at
www.marie-vincent.org.
This year again, the Marie-Vincent Foundation is taking a stand to support the environment by producing an
electronic version of its annual report, available for download as separate files. By doing so, the Foundation
hopes to encourage its supporters to limit their use of paper by printing only the files they need.

President’s Message
Dominique Décarie
With 15 years of experience in executive recruiting, Dominique Décarie is
a co-founder and partner
at Décarie Borreman, a firm
specialized in the industry. Previously, Dominique
was a partner at Korn/
Ferry International where
she directed the financial
services division.
With a BA in Sociology from
UQAM and an MBA from
HEC, Dominique Décarie
has aspired throughout her
career, to bring together
her humanitarian values
and her passion for the
business world. Involved
with the Marie-Vincent
Foundation since 2008,
she currently chairs the
Board of Directors of the
Marie-Vincent Foundation
and the Centre d’expertise
Marie-Vincent.
This past year was a transitional one for the Marie-Vincent Foundation. In the face
of overwhelming need from sexually abused children aged 12 and under, the
Foundation decided to re-center its mission to focus only on this one issue. By
narrowing our mission, we are now better able to respond to the needs of young
victims, and pursue the development of in-depth expertise in this area, notably by
funding the specialized services offered at the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent and
the research done by the Marie-Vincent Interuniversity Chair.
In 2012-2013, by means of a campaign to bring awareness of the issue of childhood
sexual abuse to the Québec population, the Foundation also reaffirmed its role as an
agent of change; we want to break the silence that continues to surround this plague
on society.
To contend with the ever challenging economic reality, the Foundation developed
a strategy for the diversification of its revenue sources, which led to the creation
of new fundraising initiatives to allow us to respond to the growing needs of the
Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent. Whether it be the 2013 Morocco Expedition, our
corporate campaign, direct mail, major gifts or planned giving, the Foundation
continues to develop new tools to allow it to keep coming to the aid of young victims
of sexual abuse throughout Québec.
In this 38th year of its existence, the Marie-Vincent Foundation has once more been
able to count on the dedication of its many volunteers, on the mobilization of the
business community, and on the support of the public. With and thanks to you, we
have raised impressive sums which will make a very real difference on the life paths of
the children seen at the Centre.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
Dominique Décarie
Partner, Décarie Borreman
Chair of the Board of the Marie-Vincent Foundation

MARIE-VINCENT FOUNDATION
A Word From the Executive Director
Danielle Gabrielle Roy
Backed by solid experience
in business development,
Danielle Gabrielle Roy has
worked in marketing and
communications for the
past 20 years. While running her own agency for
seven years, she built a
dynamic business network, and contributed to
the success of many SMEs
in Montreal and elsewhere.
She moved into the nonprofit sector in 2004. Since
then, fundraising has been
her passion.
Before arriving at the
Marie-Vincent
Foundation, Danielle Gabrielle
Roy managed the HémaQuébec Foundation, as
well as the communications department of
The Montréal Children’s
Hospital Foundation, in
the midst of the largest
fundraising campaign in
the organization’s history.
Whether it is as a parent, a grandparent, a teacher or a neighbor, when we hear
about a child who has been sexually abused, it is hard to feel anything but anger and
disbelief. Moved by a sense of urgency and motivated by a strong desire to play a
part in improving the lot of children who are victims of sexual abuse, I became the
Executive Director of the Marie-Vincent Foundation in October 2012.
Thanks to the confidence and generosity of its loyal partners and many donors, the
Marie-Vincent Foundation is able to achieve great things, and has been doing so on
behalf of the children of Québec for the past 38 years.
In 2005, with the creation of the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent and the MarieVincent Interuniversity Chair on the sexual abuse of children, the Foundation proved
beyond a doubt that there was a very real need for the services they provided to
sexually abused children aged 12 and under.
Specialized services for victims, research, training, and prevention: these are the four
channels through which the Marie-Vincent Foundation carries out its mission and
honours the generosity of the caring men and women who stand up against childhood sexual abuse.
Board members, staff, partners, donors and volunteers… All of you have one thing
in common: you care deeply about the wellbeing of our children. Your dedication is
an incredible source of inspiration and gratitude for me.
Together, we can say yes to childhood. Thank you!

MARIE-VINCENT FOUNDATION
2012-2013 Fundraising Campaign
Rare are the days, in recent times, that the media do not paint us an appalling picture of
the treatment of young children. What can we do to overcome the sadness, the anger
and the disgust that these stories elicit?
Over the 38 years of its existence, the Marie-Vincent Foundation has succeeded in
mobilizing heads of companies, professionals, government officials and the population at large, and sensitizing them to the importance of taking action in the face of this
inconceivable violence.
In 2005, with the creation of the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent and the Interuniversity Chair on the sexual abuse of children, the Foundation reaffirmed its ambition to fill
the gaps in the specialized services available to young victims of sexual abuse.
In 2013, more than ever, the Marie-Vincent Foundation is convinced of the need to guarantee the continuity
of the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent, for the benefit of all abused children. By offering all the services a
young victim and their loved ones could need under one roof, the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent is undeniably a place where pain can grow into hope.
I have been profoundly touched and inspired by the thousands of children whose innocence has been
violated, and it is with honour that I agreed to chair the Marie-Vincent Foundation’s 2012-2013 corporate
campaign, with the objective of raising $1 million.
As I write these lines, the campaign is in full swing. The members of our campaign cabinet are working tirelessly to raise funds, and thanks to people like you we know we will be able to achieve our goal and give
young victims a brighter future. Thank you!

4th edition of “Dining with the CFOs:
The business community at your service”
The chief financial officers of some of Québec’s largest companies once again traded
in their business suits for chefs hats and put together a feast fit for kings at “Dining
with the CFOs: The business community at your service”. The event was held on May
17, 2012 at 7e Ciel at the Cirque du Soleil. It raised $200,000.
We offer our deepest thanks to the tireless Sylvain Gascon, Managing Director and
Head of Corporate Banking at Desjardins Capital Markets, who instigated the project, as well as the rest of the team behind this incredible evening.

Flagship Events
2013 Morocco Expedition
This year, the Marie-Vincent Foundation organized a truly
unusual expedition. From February 16 to 23, 2013, a group
of trekkers traveled 60 kilometres on foot through the Moroccan
desert. Traveling at the gentle pace of the caravan, participants
were inspired to push their limits as they discovered the Moroccan
Sahara.
Each trekker paid for the expenses associated with their trip, as well
as raising much-needed funds for the Marie-Vincent Foundation.
Our twelve participants succeeded in raising $151,356 for abused
children. They also came back with unforgettable memories to
share. Hats off to all of them – and thank you!

MARIE-VINCENT FOUNDATION
Inspired Initiatives
Year after year, the Marie-Vincent Foundation counts on the big-hearted volunteers who organize countless
fundraising events to make a difference for young victims of sexual abuse. Over the course of 2012-2013, the
following fundraising events helped the Foundation to fulfill its mission:
The fundraising activities of Royal Lepage Tradition, Royal Lepage Au Sommet, and the Royal Lepage
Shelter Foundation, the Royal Lepage Des Moulins pumpkin sale, Claude Roy’s birthday, the Dale Parizeau Morris
Mackenzie muffin sale, the Pensionnat des Sacrés Cœurs’ fourth grade exhibition in St-Bruno-de-Montarville, the
“Pour le sourire d’un enfant” event organized by Polybel School in Beloeil, and the bingo event organized by Le
Prélude School in Mascouche.
To everyone whose generosity and volunteer spirit helped to spread the message of the Marie-Vincent
Foundation throughout Québec, we thank you! Your donations are used with care, and make a very real
difference.

MARIE-VINCENT FOUNDATION
Foundation Achievements
The Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent:
a unique and innovative centre benefitting
young victims of sexual abuse
The Foundation created the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent in 2005. The aim of the
Centre is to advance and spread their cutting-edge expertise on the topic of sexual
aggression towards children aged 12 and under, by bringing police, medical, sociojudicial and psychosocial services together under one roof, along with research and
a bank of knowledge.
At the Centre, researchers, professionals and intervention workers from various
disciplines work together in an environment adapted to the needs of children. They
combine their skills and knowledge in order to develop state-of-the-art tools to
deal with the sexual victimization of children, as well as offer specialized services.
A multidisciplinary team of professionals evaluates the needs of sexually abused
children, and offers specialized treatment services, as well as personalized support
to parents. Police and medical services are also available.
Throughout 2012-2013, thanks to the support of many loyal donors, the Centre
d’expertise was able to continue its work with sexually abused children and their
families. All together, between March 31, 2012 and March 30, 2013, there were
175 police investigations, 42 medical exams, 294 evaluations, 789 meetings
regarding specialized treatment and 130 meetings for personalized services.
As well as improving the services offered to young victims and their families, the
Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent offers training to intervention workers and students,
affirming its role as an innovative leader in the development and transfer of practical
knowledge about sexual abuse.
Over the course of the past year, the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent continued to
grow its training capacities. Since its creation in 2005, nearly 1700 professionals
from across Québec have received training. These professionals come from the
police, medical, psychosocial and socio-judicial sectors.

MARIE-VINCENT FOUNDATION
Foundation Achievements
The Marie-Vincent Interuniversity Chair:
to develop cutting-edge scientific knowledge
about sexual aggression towards children
Since its beginnings, the Marie-Vincent Interuniversity Chair on the sexual abuse
of children has supported the research activities of the Centre d’expertise MarieVincent. Associated researchers and research assistants from the Université de
Montréal and the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) pursue research
projects that fall into one of the three following research axes:
Axis 1 | Evaluation of the needs and abilities of sexually abused children and their families
Axis 2 | Evaluation of the services offered by the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent
Axis 3 | Study of the varying development paths of children involved in situations of sexual
abuse
The mission of the Chair is to develop leading-edge scientific knowledge about
sexual aggression towards children. Objectives include:
• Increase knowledge to allow intervention workers involved with the Centre
d’expertise from different areas of practice to further develop the specialized
services they offer and improve the quality of services offered to victims and
those around them.
• Share the results of their research on the nature and consequences of sexual
abuse, on the evaluation of the specialized services offered by the Centre and
the impact they have on children in order to ensure that practices evolve and
new learnings are developed.
• Provide high level training to future researchers, who will benefit from an
exceptional research environment thanks to their proximity to the Centre and
its services.
• Allow the Centre to exercise a leadership role in the development of specialized
services.
In its third year of existence, the Chair was very productive in many respects. In addition to continuing the
projects launched over the past two years (10 research projects), a new project has begun, focused specifically
on the risks associated with memory, stress and medical examinations of children who have revealed an
abusive situation. The Chair also earned several grants which have allowed it to support ongoing research at
the Centre d’expertise Marie-Vincent and notably, to conduct longitudinal follow-ups with the Centre’s clients.
Several scientific publications were also published throughout the year.

Foundation Achievements
Awareness Campaign
To fulfill a critical part of its mission, the Foundation also made a significant effort to increase awareness among
the public, notably through an advertising campaign developed by Marketel.
The agency developed the campaign, comprised of two television messages, free of charge. Comme un grand
and Première fois present a troubling parallel between the life of a normal child – experiencing the usual firsts in
the context of a traditional childhood – and that of a child who has been sexually abused. An equally effective
radio spot, display advertising and a web initiative support the messaging.
We would like to thank Jacques Duval, President and CEO of Marketel, for his tremendous generosity, as well as
the rest of the team involved in the development and execution of this campaign for their exceptional talent.

MARIE-VINCENT FOUNDATION
Foundation Achievements
Financial support for organizations in 2012-2013
True to tradition, the Foundation provided financial support to Québec-based organizations who work with
children aged 12 and under who have been sexually abused. Eligible organizations include: non-profit organizations whose missions align with that of the Marie-Vincent Foundation. The support provided is designated to
prevention programs and for intervention work among young victims. In 2012, $22,000 was disbursed to two
Québec organizations. We thank them for the work they do, and encourage them to continue their intervention
and prevention initiatives among young victims.
LA MAISON DES FEMMES DE QUÉBEC received $15,000 to fund their “Branchons-nous” project, aiming to
encourage cooperation between school intervention workers, parents and elementary school students (children aged 5 to 12). We are hoping to equip these children to be better able to effectively denounce aggression.
La Maison des Femmes de Québec is a shelter for all women (with or without children) who have been victims
of spousal or family violence.
The mission of ESPACE région de Québec is the prevention of all forms of violence towards children, by means
of an educational program offered to children aged 3 to 12 as well as the adults around them. The program is
run primarily in elementary schools, nursery schools and private daycares, and targets all forms of violence, be
it verbal, psychological, physical, sexual, negligence, or bullying. A total of $7,000 was disbursed to the organization to allow them to conduct prevention workshops.
The MARIE-VINCENT AWARD is given to a person or non-profit organization whose
actions have brought about concrete social or community change, and who have
shown initiative, creativity or a capacity for excellence. On October 30, 2012 in
Québec, during a symposium for the Association des centres jeunesse du Québec,
the 2012 Marie-Vincent Award was given to Carrefour pour Elle in recognition of the
Pacifix program. For the past 38 years, Carrefour pour Elle has carried out their mission
to provide support and shelter for women who have been victims of conjugal violence
as well as their children. A total of nearly 450 families have benefited from the program.
