A LETTER FROM
THE PRESIDENT
Tonya Browing
(High Valley Riders)
Hey drill mates,
2013 was another great year for WLRCA and competitive drill.
I want to thank all of you for your input and efforts to make us
a better association. We worked hard to improve things and
some of those changes came with a few hurdlers that we had
to go over, but we did it with style.
As we all know and saw during grand opening,
things don’t always go the way you plan. As I took
Bridger, my 29 year old drill horse, for his retirement
lap, he saw an open gate and he said,”retirement,
woo hoo! I’m outta here!” But we dust ourselves
off, keep smiling and move forward. With your in
put and collaboration we will move forward together.
02
I want to thank those who represented us all over America. CC Riders traveled to California and Royal
Express traveled to Reno to compete in first time competitions to their time. Latigo N Lace, The Outlaws
and Rein’n Rowdies went to central Oregon for the OWDTA competition. Our teams are truly the best
representation of drill. I also want to thank our judges and clinicians who traveled all over to train judges
and who have helped teams to be better drill riders. We have received thanks and positive input from
Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma and California for all your time and effort. It was another year of Flags all over
the state. It shows how tough we are as competitors but at the same time, we all cheer and support each
others success. We are a unique group and I can’t be more proud to be a member of this association.
I want to congratulate our 2013 champions: Rodeo City Equestrians Team of Four, High Valley Riders
Parade Drill, American Made Compulsory Drill, Diamond Dust Short Program and Latigo N Lace Freestyle and Overall All High Point Champions. You all worked hard and it showed in the arena. We are all
well represented by you.
Thanks to all of you for another great year. Each and every one of you truly represent what this organization is about - supporting and promoting the great sport of drill.
KEEP DRILLING!!!
Tonya

06 American Made
American Made Rodeo Drill Team (AM) hails
from Olympia Washington. Our team is a not
for profit equestrian drill team and we have
been performing together since 1998.
This is our second year competing at the WLRCA
championship and our first to do so with our
new coach, Troy Valentine. Troy, though new to
AM, has been a dedicated and passionate part of
the Pacific Northwest drill world for well over a
decade. Troy has brought to AM his knowledge,
experience, wisdom and patience. In return AM
has given Troy our passion, talent, dedication,
(perhaps a grey hair or two) and all the love a
drill team can have for their coach.
This year was a year of growth and learning
for American Made. As such, we would like to
thank all the amazing people: the family, friends,
sponsors and supporters for making what we
do possible. And we would like to thank Troy
specifically, for making what we do amazing.
See you all next year!

Cascade Carrousel, which began in 1987, is
based out of Yelm, WA. The team is Coached by
Ione Gregory and Captained by Merri Reagan.
We really enjoy each other as teammates and
support each other through good times and
bad. It really does seem as if it’s our extended
family. We all work to better our individual
horsemanship skills and work to improve our
team as a whole.
This is a wonderful group of people, including
men, women and junior riders, ranging in age
from 14 to 71. We have two sets of sisters on
the team as well as a mother/daughter combo
and husband and wife units. This is truly a family team.

10 CC Riders
This year was a very pivotal moment for the CC
Riders. We have a new brand, working on a new
look, some new members and a new outlook on
our team and where we want that vision to take
us. Having undergone many changes throughout the years, we pride ourselves on being a
coed team currently riding out of Stewarts
Arena in Yelm and D&R Arena in Graham, WA.
Our goals this year were to have fun, to be
different and to have no regrets. We certainly
applied those goals this year and ended up coming in 1st in Freestyle and 1st in Short Program
for the 9 and under Division at PNWDTA and
have consistently placed top against teams of
similar numbers.
We would like to give a big thank you to Dan
Meyers for helping prepare us for WLRCA and
offering us pointers for the California Coto Cup
Competition in which we earned a 3rd Place.
Thank you to all the teams participating at
WLRCA, we certainly appreciate competing
against each and every one of you. Best of luck
for next season. Ride Fast and Ride Hard!!!

12 Diamond Dust
Diamond Dust is an equestrian drill team from
Clark County, WA, founded in 2008. We’re an
enthusiastic fun-loving and positive team that
has a passion for drill and the love of our
horses. We strive to ride hard and promote our
sport of drill at its best. We work very hard to develop interesting and difficult drills and to introduce new and innovative music each year, wanting to entertain the public and awe our judges.
Diamond Dust is active all year long. Drill season begins in October with weekly practices
to bring in new members and new horses. We
compete May thru August traveling throughout
the Pacific Northwest. Some competitions are
one day events, some are weekend events. We
always look forward to weekend events as it is
not only the sport we love, but more time spent
together. Diamond Dust is not only a team but
considered family. We celebrate together, grieve
together, laugh together and we cry together.
The ethics of the team are of the highest standard and just gets better every year. It is with
this model that makes us successful and will
continue to for years to come.

14 High Valley Riders
The High Valley Riders are based in Sammamish,
WA. 2013 was a fun and challenging year for us
as we hosted our first competition at Flying M
stables in Olympia, WA. We want to send a huge
thank you to the teams that supported our event,
and we can’t wait to do it again. This year as a
team we worked hard to compete with the great
teams of the WLRCA. We are better as a team
because of the competition and friendships we
have within the organization. We welcomed several new riders this year and they rode hard to
keep up with the veterans. That hard work paid
off with a Parade Championship Flag.
We would like to thank our sponsors, The
Rainbow School, Clark Photography and the
Balanced Spine for their support. We also want
to thank our crew - husbands, kids, boyfriends,
parents, friends and all those we consider family. You have blessed our lives with your support.
Because of all of you we have been given the
greatest gift in life - a horse to ride and friends
who dance with us in the arena to make magic
together. It’s a group thing and what a great
thing it is!

16 lAtigo ‘N lAce
In 2013 Latigo ‘N Lace celebrated our 20th year
actively riding and competing in the sport of
drill. This amazing team has continually grown
over the years and reveled in great success under the innovative direction of Joan Moore.
2013 ends with a bitter sweet commemoration
as we say goodbye to our friend, mentor and
coach. We wish her luck and look forward to
seeing her on the trail.
We were very pleased to have ended the season
with back-to-back-to-back High Point Championships at WLRCA, Clark County Fair and
OWDTA. We enjoyed the return of many past
LnL alumni who played a huge part in our success late in the season. Special Thanks to Haley
Minsker, Jessica Arterburn, Chelsey Emerick,
Heather Jones, Jenna Scissons and Sharon Shaffer. Ladies we could not have done it without
you! We are truly excited about what’s ahead in
2014.

18 Outlaws
The Outlaws drill team was brought back to life
in 2006 by Jorga Stark. It was the original name
before it was changed to Quicksilver. We are
proud to present the Spring Classic drill show
every May. The Outlaws are a coed team accepting new riders with the physical ability to canter
the drills.
Our goal is to promote the thrill of drill to an
area of the horse community that might not otherwise try it. We are a lower stress team concentrating on having fun and doing the best we can.
We treat each other as family and do many fun
things together beyond our weekly practices at
the Clark County Saddle Club. We compete at
several one-day and weekend shows throughout the summer in the Pacific Northwest.

20 Rein n Rowdies
After a successful 2012 and the departure of 8
riders, along came the arrival of 8 new to drill
riders, allowing the Rein’n Rowdies to spend
their 9th year rebuilding. We have enjoyed getting to know each other, building our group
into a ‘Team” and working together.
Injuries have been a huge factor in our “rebuilding’ among both the new and veteran riders. We
look forward to having ALL our Rowdies back
on horseback and lots of fun in the future!

22 Rhinestone Cowgirls
The Rhinestone Cowgirls are a group of women
who love their horses and enjoy the challenge
and excitement of Equestrian Precision Drill.
The team was founded in 1987 and is one of the
oldest surviving drill teams in the Northwest.
They’ve been around longer than cell phones
and the internet! The 8 riders of this year’s team
range in age from 21 to over 60. Additionally,
this team is unique in that it is roughly split between old and new riders. Many of the team’s
older riders have retired and RC is starting over
with (what feels like) a whole new team. But,
the ladies of this new team are tough, fun and
persistent. They’ve overcome injured horses,
injured riders and just about everything else
life could throw at them. They are excited to
be competing this year and wish all of their
competitors “Good Luck!”

Rodeo City Equestrians
The Rodeo City Equestrians, organized in 1991,
is an offshoot of a club called the Silver Spurs
which was organized in the 1970’s. We were for
many years the only women’s drill team east
of the mountains. In our membership we have
mother/daughter/granddaughter combinations
and have had several mother/daughters riding.
Not all of the RCE’s members ride in competition. Some prefer to offer support service or
ride in parades. We do alot of community service
and volunteer work. We also have just started a
yearly scholarship fund account. A great bonus
is the many sponsors that team members have
asked for contributions that help offset the cost
of being a competitive team.

28 Sequins N Spurs
Sequins N’ Spurs was formed in January of 2012
by a group of gals who shared a common love
of horses. All come from different backgrounds;
trail riding, driving, dressage, hung seat, 4-H
and gymkhana just to name a few. Ages on the
team range from 16 on up, and each rider was
looking for a new challenge to take on to build
their skills as an equestrian as well as strengthen
their bond with their horse.
Drill is the perfect match for each of us! Our
team is expanding and our knowledge of drill is
growing stronger each time we practice and perform. We enjoy doing demonstrations around
the area and have even ridden in a charity event
to raise money for a therapeutic horseback riding program, STRIDES. For a new team, this exposure has been amazing and we hope to ride
in many more events like this in the future. As
a whole, we love drill, we adore our horses and
can’t wait until competition season begins next
year! Remember, it’s not pink... it’s raspberry!

30 Stirrin Dust
Doin’ what we do... Pretendin’ that we’re cool!
2013 was a year of blood, sweat and tears for Stirrin’
Dust and the debut novice team SD2. Both teams made
coaches Alicia and Lana very proud. A second place win in
the Quad division at state, novice team taking first in both
their Freestyle and Short programs and the team winning
the sportsmanship trophy for the second year in a row,
proves that all the hard work is worth it.
The team would like to thank all of their support members
and families that came out to cheer us on. Special thanks
to the CC Riders for all the help and support you have
given us this year. Kurt Browning for the constant support
and kind words for our team. Diane Thomas for answering all of our questions and to all the other coaches/riders
in the league that answered Alicia’s pretty odd maneuver
questions. With people like this everyone feels welcome.
Special shout out to our 2013 captains Scott Byrd, Kaylen Hankenmeier, Shalesa Kovash and Bonnie Vaders.
Our Rider of the Year: Kaylen Hankenmeier, Most Valued
Rider: Morgan Paker, Most Valued Horse: Ohso, Most Improved Comp Horse: Poncho, Most Improved Comp Rider: Linda Heffernan, Most Improved Novice Rider: Cody
Pecor, Most Improved Novice Horse: Jake.
Stirrin’ Dust can’t wait to come back in 2014 and show
everyone what we learned and continue to grow and love
drill.

Horse of the Year
Bridger Statesman
Bridger Statesman has had many successful
years at the young age of 29. He began drilling
in 2000 with Tonya Browning of the High Valley
Riders Drill Team. In 2003 Bridger and Jayme
teamed up and have been a solid team for the
last 10 years. He was a part of winning state
championship flags and participated in a number of drills and parades. He finally was retired
this year due to his age, however, we attribute
his longevity to the sport of drill. Bridger will
always be around drill team until the end and
he surely will be missed. We want to thank him
for his willingness to give his all. The
Browning’s are forever thankful to
him for bringing them together so
that they can do this sport as a family
and experience the thrill of drill! We
love you Bridger!
