Viva Italia Supremo!
16 May
Welcome to the second newsletter of 2015. It has been an amazing start to the year and I am very
sorry if you missed our first concert, With Honour We Serve. I received an overwhelming number of
written comments about this concert, and will share some of them with you in this newsletter. Whilst
many have said it was the best Pops concert ever, I hope that is still to come. It was a very powerful
and beautiful concert, and it touched many hearts in a positive way as we found the balance between
commemoration and celebration of our nationhood.
2:30 & 7:30pm
I have been asked how we will top that last concert. I will not attempt to surpass it but we will deliver
excellence in a different way because each concert is a standalone production. In 2013 we produced
the first Viva Italia and you, our audience, told us that it was the most spectacular concert of the year.
Based on your feedback the new production Viva Italia Supremo has been developed and designed
to exceed those expectations.

Anna-Maria La Spina will return following her triumphant performance in 2013. This
outstanding entertainer and vocal superstar will again ignite the stage with songs you will know very
well. She will also join with Tenori to bring you some of the most powerful singing you will ever hear.
After singing and touring with Australia’s Savage Garden for two world tours Anna co-wrote the
album Always You and recorded it with her brother Rosario. This album debuted at No.1 on the
classic charts.
Tenori comprises the talents of three of Queensland’s powerhouse tenors in a dynamic,
uplifting and hugely entertaining performance. David Kidd, Craig Atkinson and Andrew Pryer met
while touring internationally with the Ten Tenors and have gone on to work with Opera Australia,
Opera Queensland and many of the country’s finest orchestras.

Selene Pennetta will dance the evocative Pizzica that will take us to the southern parts of Italy
and bring to life this ancient dance form. Humorous and talented Domenico Taraborrelli will
perform on the “Stomach Steinway” with some of the great Neapolitan songs you can sing along to.
STOP PRESS – following her great success at her last Pops appearance and your ongoing requests,
young violin virtuoso Cherin Lee will return to perform some Vivaldi with the orchestra. This will be
something not to miss.
I look forward to seeing you all at this very special concert, and don’t forget we have put the matinee
concerts on by request for those who prefer day time concerts. Viva Italia Supremo will also be
performed at Caloundra.
Warmest regards
Patrick Pickett

Testimonials
“G/Day Patrick and your Merry Band of Musicians.
Went to your concert last night, there are not enough
adjectives in the world to describe the concert
It was by far one of the best concerts ever staged. It
was fantastic action from the opening to the
sentimental ending. As you said at the beginning,
"your emotions will be going on a roller coaster",
Patrick that was one fantastic concert and to put it in
one word UNBELIEVABLE. You achieved what you
set out to do and stirred my emotions along with my
friends Thank you for a very enjoyable concert
Warmest regards
Mal & Kay Kelly”

Thank you
to all those who have donated to the music library.
Sean O’Boyle, our composer in residence, has written 2 new works and we
have commissioned 30 new arrangements since taking over the Pops in
2013. This ensures that the music we present is both current and fresh.
Most arrangements cost between $300 and $500 each with published works
costing up to $1000. The current music library has 1367 titles, some of
which are hand written arrangements by Colin Harper. Unfortunately these
have been done in pencil and will have to be put through a computer to
enable us to continue to perform these timeless pieces well into the future.
Your contribution to the ongoing maintenance of the library is greatly
appreciated, not only by us as the current custodians of this unique
collection of music, but by audiences in the years to come.
