A GRACEFUL EDITION, FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER!
Opening concert
June 26, 7 p.m., Maison symphonique / THE A FILETTA ENSEMBLE with PAOLO FRESU and DANIELE
DI BONAVENTURA. Opening act: PAOLO FRESU – GIANLUCA PETRELLA DUO
This fabulous evening matches trumpeter Paolo Fresu, bandoneonist Daniele Di Bonaventura and the magical voices of the A Filetta
ensemble, standard-bearers of the Corsican polyphonic vocal tradition. Mistico Mediterraneo, a jewel of an album assembling all that
talent, left critics and jazz fans in speechless contemplation of a graceful jazz embracing the sacred voices of A Filetta. Tonight, in
addition to Mistico Mediterraneo, the artists unite their talents in an ambitious musical project, Danse Mémoire Danse, conceived around
two major humanist thinkers: writer Aimé Césaire and Jean Nicoli, member of the Resistance. Opening the evening, trumpeter Paolo Fresu
engages in musical dialogue with another impressive Italian horn player, trombonist Gianluca Petrella. Presented in collaboration with
CBC/Radio-Canada.
Closing concert
July 5, 7 p.m., Maison symphonique de Montréal / MONTREAL JUBILATION GOSPEL CHOIR
A universal success, this choir, founded in 1982 by professor Trevor Payne, has performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson
Mandela and collaborated with such artists as Ray Charles, Céline Dion and Michael Bolton. They are famed for their traditional and
contemporary gospel and a repertoire that also embraces Gregorian chants, Bach chorales, oratorio, modern jazz and traditional Zulu
music. A moment of grace. Presented in collaboration with CBC/Radio-Canada.
