ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Mark H. Blankenship, Ph.D.
Mark Blankenship is the senior vice president and chief
administrative officer for Jack in the Box Inc. He oversees the
company’s strategic planning, human resources, compensation
and benefits, organization effectiveness, training and
development, information systems, guest service systems, and
video communications departments. Blankenship joined Jack
in the Box Inc. in 1997 as division vice president of training
and later was named division vice president of training and
development and field human resources. In 2005, he was
promoted to vice president of human resources. Blankenship
was named to his present position in 2010. Prior to joining
Jack in the Box, Blankenship was vice president of human
resources for Mitchell International, a San Diego-based
company that provides information products, software and
e-business solutions to the insurance industry. Blankenship has
a doctorate and a master’s degree in industrial organizational
psychology from the California School of Professional
Psychology in San Diego.
Wayne F. Cascio, Ph.D.
Wayne Cascio holds the Robert H. Reynolds Chair in Global
Leadership at the University of Colorado Denver Business
School. His areas of expertise include staffing, training,
performance management, compensation, organizational
restructuring and the economic impact of human resource
activities. His publications include Costing Human Resources:
The Financial Impact of Behavior in Organizations;
Managing Human Resources: Productivity, Quality of Work
Life, Profits (8th edition, 2010); Applied Psychology in
Human Resource Management (7th edition, with H. Aguinis,
2011); and Employment Downsizing and Its Alternatives:
Strategies for Long-term Success (2010). Cascio is a fellow
of the American Psychological Association, the Academy
of Management and the National Academy of Human
Resources. He has been a visiting professor at universities
in Singapore, Switzerland, Rotterdam, Hong Kong and
Australia, as well as the Wharton School, the University of
California, Berkeley, and Florida International University.
Jatin DeSai
Jatin DeSai, CEO and co-founder of the DeSai Group,
is a seasoned business executive, strategic advisor and a
coach for senior leadership teams. DeSai has extensive field
experience in the areas of strategy alignment, corporate
innovation, talent management, global competency
development, culture transformation and information
technology. He has been active in leadership and operating
roles since 1983, when he co-founded The DeSai Group
with his father. DeSai has written papers, regularly speaks at
conferences, lectures at colleges and universities, and delivers

educational workshops on strategic alignment for executive
teams, future trends, enterprise innovation, enterprise
learning, organizational effectiveness, values and leadership,
living with human values, and spirituality in the workplace.
Arun Leslie George
Arun Leslie George is the senior vice president and
head of human resources at Coromandel International
Ltd. In addition to HR, he is responsible for corporate
branding, business excellence, Total Quality Management,
communications and innovation. Coromandel International
Ltd. engages in manufacturing and marketing fertilizers,
plant nutrition and crop protection products primarily in
India. George has handled a wide variety of assignments
in his career. He was part of the Corporate Restructuring
Task Force of the Murugappa Group for a period of two
years, during which he handled business portfolio review
and value chain re-architecture of the various businesses of
the Group. He is a member of the CII National Council
on Industrial Relations and chairman of CII National HR
Excellence. George has been a speaker at the flagship Global
Leadership 2020 Program at the Tuck School of Business at
Dartmouth College, and he has presented papers at national
and international conferences. He is an economics graduate
and earned his master’s degree in HR and industrial
relations. He is a Fulbright Fellow in Management.
Steve Ginsburgh
Steve Ginsburgh’s career of HR accomplishments spans several
industries, including aviation, consulting, energy, beverages,
chemicals and utilities. He has led projects globally on all
major continents. Ginsburgh joined Universal Weather and
Aviation in 2006 and is now SVP of HR and Workforce
Development for the company, which has been selected as a
“Best Place to Work in Houston” for the past six years. During
2008-2010, his department’s projects were nominated for
eight separate HR Houston Impact Awards and received the
Organizational Excellence Award in 2010. Ginsburgh earned
a master’s degree in HR from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. He has contributed to four publications
on leadership and has presented at ASTD, SHRM and SIOP
conferences. He served in the Navy on an aircraft carrier
during the Vietnam era. He is currently the president of the
Board of Literacy Advance of Houston and serves on The
Downtown Club’s Philanthropy Committee.
Gardiner Hempel, CPA, GPHR
Gardiner Hempel is the chair of the HR Certification
Institute Board of Directors and a partner in the Global
Employer Services (GES) practice of Deloitte Tax LLP. He
has 32 years of experience in the global mobility area and

has lived and worked in Germany, Hong Kong and Japan.
He serves on leadership teams for Deloitte’s initiatives on
both talent and global mobility transformation and is a
member of the Global Management Group as the practice
leader for innovation. Gardiner served as director of the
SHRM Global Forum Board of Directors from 1999
to 2003 and as president in 2001 and 2002. He served
on the faculty for the International HR Management
Certificate Program for eight years and the GPHR (Global
Professional in Human Resources) Certification Preparation
Course for two years. Gardiner has been a frequent speaker
on international tax, compensation and HR issues at
organizations such as SHRM, WorldatWork, IBIS, Wall
Street Tax Association and Global Business Association. He
received his bachelor’s degree in business administration
from the University of California, Berkeley.
Gary B. Kushner, SPHR, CBP
Gary Kushner is the president and CEO of Kushner &
Company. As an internationally recognized expert, Kushner is
a sought-after speaker on HR strategy and employee benefits.
He has advised three U.S. presidents on health care and has
testified before U.S. House and Senate committees. Kushner
is a frequent resource to the media and has contributed to the
Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, CNN News and Good
Morning America.
Rick Marini
Rick Marini has been a pioneer in online social media
for more than a decade and has founded three successful
Silicon Valley companies. Marini is the founder and CEO of
BranchOut, the largest professional networking service on
Facebook, with millions of users in more than 60 counties
and 10 languages. BranchOut operates the largest job board
on Facebook, with more than 3 million jobs and internships.
Prior to founding BranchOut, Marini was the founder and
CEO of SuperFan, a profitable social entertainment site that
produced social games for world-class companies, including
CBS, MTV, Sony and Universal Music. Prior to SuperFan,
Marini was the co-founder, CFO and chief strategist for
Tickle.com, which was one of the largest social media sites
on the Internet. Under his leadership, Tickle operated as
a profitable company with close to $40 million in annual
revenue. In 2002, Tickle won the “Rising Star” Webby
Award as the fastest-growing site on the web and became
a top 20 global Internet site with 200 million registered
users. In 2004, Tickle was acquired by Monster Worldwide
for more than $100 million. Marini received a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration at the University of New
Hampshire, magna cum laude, and an MBA from Harvard
University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Eddie Ng, JP
Eddie Ng is the chairman of Human Capital Management
Consulting Ltd., a management consulting firm focusing
on leadership, HRM consulting and change management
for senior executives. Ng also is chairman of the
International Committee of the Hong Kong Institute
of Human Resource Management. He has been in the
HR profession more than 25 years and has held key
posts with multinational companies, including Macquarie
Securities Asia, JPMorgan Chase, Jardine Fleming, Lucent
Technologies, AT&T, Citibank N.A. and Motorola,
along with other local companies. He currently serves
as an executive coach for senior executives and business
leaders and has been involved in numerous M&As. Ng
was president of the Hong Kong IHRM for five years,
Asia Pacific Federation of HRM for three years and the
World Federation of Personnel Management Associations
for two years (he was the first Asian and Chinese in
that role). Educated in Hong Kong, with a bachelor’s
degree in social science (1976) from CUHK, a master’s
in social science from HKU (1981) and a post-graduate
Certificate in Personnel Management from HKU in 1982,
Ng was appointed adjunct professor of HRM at HK
Baptist University in 2000. He is a frequent speaker for
Chinese (Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing) and overseas
universities, chambers and professional bodies in Greater

Susan Podlogar
Susan M. Podlogar is vice president, global compensation and
performance, for Johnson & Johnson corporate headquarters.
She is responsible for leading the development and execution
of the worldwide compensation strategy and productivity
analytics for Johnson & Johnson and is a member of the
HR leadership team. Podlogar brings 20 years of diversified
HR experience to this position. Within Johnson & Johnson,
she has worked in the Corporate Compensation, Corporate
Human Resources, Pharmaceuticals and Device sectors.
In each of these positions, Podlogar defined and executed
strategies to further build organizational capability, alignment
and employee engagement. Prior to J&J, Podlogar worked
in human resources at Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Bristol
Myers Squibb. She also worked as a consultant with William
M. Mercer, a global HR consulting firm, with clients in the
manufacturing, health care, nonprofit and service sectors.
Podlogar graduated summa cum laude from the University
of Wisconsin-Parkside with majors in labor and industrial
relations and business management. She earned an MBA from
the University of South Florida, graduating magna cum laude,
with advanced studies in management and finance.

Ann Rhoades is a dynamic and visionary HR executive

author of Built on Values: Creating an Enviable Culture that
Outperforms the Competition (Jossey-Bass, 2011). During
her tenure with Doubletree Hotels, later Promus Hotel
Corporation, Rhoades built a service culture focused on
delivering outstanding service to guests. As vice president
of Southwest Airlines’ People Department, she solidified
Southwest’s reputation of retaining and hiring the best
people in the airline business despite the airline’s rapid
growth. Most recently, as the executive vice president of
people for JetBlue Airways, Rhoades took responsibility for
creating JetBlue’s People Team in New York. In addition
to serving on the Board of JetBlue, Rhoades is currently
the president of People Ink, her human resource consulting
company. Rhoades is a popular speaker on the subjects
of customer service and building a strong service culture.
She has great passion for the health care industry, where
she serves on patient safety and quality task forces with
the Texas Medical Institute of Technology. She is cofounder and CEO of CareLeaders Corporation, a company
dedicated to helping U.S. hospitals attain a new level of
performance. Rhoades serves on a number of boards and
participates actively in her community. She holds an MBA in
management from the University of New Mexico.
Mike Riegsecker
Mike Riegsecker was recently promoted to vice president,
corrugated business, for Menasha Corporation. For seven
years prior to that, Riegsecker served as the general manager
for Menasha Packaging Corp (MPC), the largest division
of Menasha Corporation. Riegsecker is a proven leader in
innovative thinking, driving changes in markets served,
manufacturing processes and new products. Some of these
changes include upgrading the Neenah Complex to a more
efficient and effective layout, improving safety and work
flow, and implementing an “innovation process” for vetting
and commercializing new product and service ideas. He has
nurtured the growth of an innovative culture throughout
the $200 million packaging and display business, which
includes five manufacturing facilities and centralized
sales and administrative functions. A graduate of Purdue
University, Riegsecker has 17 years of experience in sales and
manufacturing.
William A. Schiemann, Ph.D.
Bill Schiemann is the chief executive officer of Metrus
Group. Schiemann and his firm are known for their
pioneering work in the creation of performance gauges
and scorecards to measure strategy implementation, and
for establishing linkages between employee, customer
and financial outcomes. Schiemann is co-author of
Bullseye! Hitting your strategic targets through high-impact
measurement and the author of Reinventing Talent
Management: How to Maximize Performance in the New
Economy. He also has written extensively for publications
such as Across the Board, Journal of Applied Psychology,
Journal of Business Strategy, Journal of Cost Management,
Journal of Strategic Performance Measurement, Management
Review and Quality Progress. Prior to founding Metrus
Group, Inc. in 1988, Schiemann was senior vice president
with Sirota & Alper Associates and vice president of
Opinion Research Corporation. He also has served as an
organizational consultant with AT&T, and prior to that,
Schiemann was on the business school faculties at Georgia
Institute of Technology and the University of Iowa. He is
the immediate past chair of the SHRM Foundation Board of
Directors and a Fellow of SIOP. Schiemann received a Ph.D.
in organizational psychology from the University of Illinois
and an MBA from the Stuart School at Illinois Institute of
Technology.
Sharon Swatscheno
Sharon Swatscheno is the HR manager for the Neenah
Complex of Menasha Corporation, a family-owned, nichebased packaging, logistics and marketing services company
with 3,200 employees, headquartered in Neenah, Wisc.
During her 25 years with Menasha Corporation, Swatscheno
has held numerous roles in sales, purchasing, quality and
HR. She also is responsible for driving Lean Initiatives
within the corporation. Swatscheno is a graduate of Marion
University, summa cum laude, with a degree in business
administration.
Peter Wilson, AM
Peter Wilson is national president of the Australian Human
Resources Institute (AHRI). He also is chairman of Yarra
Valley Water Limited and a nonexecutive director on the
Board of the World Federation of People Management
Associations, based in Geneva, Switzerland. He recently
completed a research fellowship role in Beijing and
Melbourne under the Prime Minister’s Australia-China
Climate Change Partnership. Wilson is the program director
for the Business Council of Australia’s “C” Suite Mentoring
program for senior executive women. Following his
authorship and publication of the AHRI white paper titled
“people@work/2020,” Wilson was admitted to the Society
for Human Resource Management’s Global Thought
Leaders in 2010, also known as the global HR100. Prior to
2005, Wilson held group executive roles at ANZ Bank and
Amcor Limited and was CEO of Energy 21. He has held
nonexecutive director appointments on boards of Dalgety
Farmers, Kimberly Clark, Melbourne Tigers Basketball
Club and the World Basketball Championships, and served
as chairman of the board of the Commonwealth Safety
Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission. Wilson
was named a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005 for
services to workplace relations and safety and community
service, and was awarded a Centenary Medal in 2004.
