Your Bay Oaks Board of Directors hopes you had an
enjoyable and relaxing summer. One thing we can all
agree on is this summer has been hot and dry. We went from
record rainfall in April & May to a bone dry June & July. Such
is life in Houston.
During the “lazy days of summer” the Social Committee has been anything but lazy. As you will see in this issue, they organized and hosted a
couple of major annual events. After extensive planning, the traditional
Splash Day events had to be canceled due to rain during the early part of
June. However, by mid- June the rain stopped and the first Family Movie
Night at the pool was held sponsored by Gulf Coast Aquatics. A good time
was had by all floating and watching the animated film Zootopia. Another
Family Movie Night is planned for Friday August 12. Of course the big
event of the summer is the annual 4th of July Fancy Car and Bike Parade.
Thanks to all who came out with their bikes, cars, golf carts etc to participate. Thanks to the Houston Fire Department Station 72 who brought out
one their fire engines for the parade. And finally, a big thank you goes
out to the Bay Oaks Country Club who served ice cream and refreshments
at the end of the parade.
All of these great events just don’t “happen”. It takes coordination and
effort by the Social Committee. So if you enjoy the Bay Oaks events and
perhaps have an idea for something new and different, please consider
joining the Social Committee. Mark your calendars for October 4 which
is National Night Out. More details will follow.

August/September 2016
www.bayoaks.info
Mid-way through 2016, it’s a good news story for the Bay Oaks community real estate market, for sure!
Bay Oaks currently has 30 homes on the market – and sales activity throughout the first half of the year has kept Bay Oaks
in a normal market with 6.7 months of inventory.
When you consider that most upscale neighborhoods across Houston are in a funk – with homes priced $500,000 and above
averaging 8.8 months of inventory or a serious buyers’ market, we’re lucky to continue to enjoy normal market activity.
Please peruse my market statistics as well as my own market stats on my performance and I’m sure you’ll agree – there is no
better combination for calling it “SOLD” than Bay Oaks and Dan Mc Carver!
Have a wonderful summer!

(PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE continued from page 1)
Meanwhile project work milestones have occurred
on a couple of major projects. The tennis court lighting has been replaced with new LED lights. This
completes the renovation of the tennis courts. The
mailbox replacement project continues with the replacement of the Emerald Isle cluster. That brings
the total to 3 upgrades since the start of the project.
The board estimates it will take about 3 years to fully
change out all of the mailboxes. Thanks to former
board member and president, Dennis Terry who is
doing the demolition and installation. The resident
volunteer effort to identify the native/indigenous trees
and shrubs has kicked off. The initial focus has been
on the thick vegetation at the Drill Site Park.
Summer is coming to a close and Fall is right around
the corner. School is about to start. Children will
be walking to the bus stop. The days will be getting
shorter. So please be careful while driving through
the neighborhood and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Thank you to a fellow neighbor for taking these “before”
pictures to bring to the board’s attention the need for
improvement in our neighborhood. This was not only
an inconvenience to residents that are walking on the
sidewalks, but also a possible slipping hazard. The board
takes your submissions for improvements under serious
consideration, so for those residents walking along the
sidewalk on Coastal Oak and Coastal Oak Ct., you will be
happy to know the days of walking in puddles of water and
mud after a rainy day is over. With the recent ground and
drainage renovations (before and after pictures below),
this once soggy eyesore is now
able to stay dry “weather” rain
or shine.

4th of July Parade
The annual 4th of July Parade is one of our biggest community events and it was another successful turnout for
2016. A huge thanks to the Bay Oaks Social Committee
for the planning of the event and the set up of the flags
along the parade route. Ivelina Pavolova and Brian
Horner were lead organizers for the event and helped
secure the yearly help of the Bay Oaks Country Club
for their ice cream and lemonade donation, the local fire
station and firemen along with their very popular fire
trucks, and this year a new addition of cookies courtesy
of Carol Haider.
Thank you to all our neighbors who came out of their
homes to cheer and wave the parade along. And of course,
thank you to all the people (approximately 150) who
came out to support the event with dressing up their cars,
bikes, pets, or themselves! The competition for “Best”
is always a fan
favorite, especially with a nice
Menchies gift
card reward.

National Night Out
National Night Out is less than two months away, the evening of Tuesday, October 4. Historically, about half the
blocks in the neighborhood have held gatherings, mostly
in cul-de-sacs, yards, and mini-parks, with a few inside
houses. In addition to being a good opportunity to meet
neighbors, officers from our local group of constables/
police, as well as Top Gun will be circulating among the
groups to address security questions and concerns.
Most of the gatherings are organized by block captains,
but anyone wishing to organize a gathering on their own
or help out a block captain would be welcomed. If youíd

Tree & Shrub Clearance Over
Roadways and Sidewalks
JUNE | yard of the month
It’s that time again, and overdue for some. The wet spring
and heat of summer has yielded prolific growth of much
of the vegetation in our neighborhood. Of particular
interest are the trees and shrubs bordering our streets and
sidewalks.
Clearances must be maintained for both aesthetic and
safety reasons. As the diagram illustrates, trees must be
maintained to provide a minimum clearance of 14’ over the
roadway, beginning at the curb, and extending throughout
the street. Sidewalks must be clear of any intrusion by
shrubs or trees from the sides and up to a height of 8’.

Street light outages
Tennis Court upgrades
The Association has
made some
significant
upgrades
to the community tennis courts,
located in
the park at
Pineloch
Drive and
Greenwood Oaks. You may have already seen that the
deck of the courts has been resurfaced. Now the installation
has been completed on the upgraded LED lighting. The
upgrade of the lighting also included relocating all of the
light poles (except the center pole) to outside the courts.
Additional smaller upgrades to the tennis courts will also be
taking place across the next couple of months. Your BOCA
Board hopes that these enhancements to our community
assets will increase your enjoyment of these facilities.
Have you ever wondered how CenterPoint Energy knows
when street lights on your street are burned out and need
repair? The answer is that they do not know. Someone has
to inform CenterPoint. So if you see a street light outage,
you need to report it so we can get that light
back on. This is important for maintaining security and
safety after dark.
How do you do report
a street light outage?
First, get the six digit
number off the pole
and an approximate
street address. Second,
go online to CenterPointís street light outage website (slo.CenterPointEnergy.com)
and report the burned
out light. CenterPoint
should have it fixed in
three or four business
days.
