Lessons Learned

Communication with the Community
•
•
•
•
Federal investment in remediation projects pays off
•
•
•
•
Community and resident participation is an important part of the decision making process in
order to achieve acceptation of remediation solutions.
In two pilot projects experiences were gained with risk communication, however the
communication process is still not regulated in Mexico.
Open communication channels increase project success.
success
Federal and state governments have financed mayor projects with aprox.
aprox 90 Mio USD
USD, which
have created economic impulses around remediated sites.
The benefits gained from improved living conditions for the population in mayor cities
outweigh the remediation costs.

require attention, however their remediation is a very good investment for the future.
A secure and sound legal framework increases certainty and security among all stake
holders

Good regulation instruments have helped to create awareness and responsibility among
polluters.
International cooperation (with GIZ, Germany and RELASC) has been very successful to
achieve specific knowledge and access to state of the art technologies
