ANNUAL REPORT 2013-2014
His Excellency,
The Governor of Sikkim
It gives me great pleasure to present the Ninth Annual
Report of The ICFAI University, Sikkim for the year
2013-14. The University has continued to be an arena of
higher education where the future is full of opportunities
and promises. IUS emphasizes on imparting excellent
education to our students in an encouraging environment;
equal attention is paid to the all-round development of
our students.
Today the horizons of professional activities are expanding
and hence there is considerable scope for the younger
generations to uncap their talents and touch greater heights of achievement. Since the
educational situation in our country has become quite dynamic and competitive, we
have to be ready and equipped with the required abilities and capacities to conquer these
committed to provide the students excellent education, practical training and facilities
in the career they have chosen to pursue. To achieve this The IUS continuously updates
its courses and syllabi, keeping in view the changing needs of different professions,
industries and social landscape as such.

Establishment of the University
The University was established under
the provisions of section 4(2) of the
Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts
of India University, Sikkim Act 2004

No. GOS/DTE/2003/VI(18)/1812,
dated 20.01.2005 of the Government of
Sikkim. The University was sponsored
by the Institute of Chartered Financial
Analysts of India, a not-for-profit
educational society established in 1984
under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana
Area) Public Societies Registration Act,
1350F (Act I of 1350 F).

Headquarters of the University is at

in creating and disseminating knowledge
and skills in core and frontier areas
through innovative educational programs,
research, consulting and publishing and

Amendments to Act/Statutes/ Rules:
SETTLEMENT
The American Institute and the ICFAI
as also FEDUNI representing the ICFAI
Universities initiated negotiations towards
settlement of all outstanding disputes.
These negotiations conducted over a
period of two years were fruitful and
*Q X *+Z* agreement was signed by the parties at
Washington DC, USA. Subsequently,
this Agreement was ratified by the
Boards of American Institute and ICFAI
Society, FEDUNI and CCFA. The
two relevant clauses of this settlement
agreement which impact upon the ICFAI
Universities are as under:
(a) The ICFAI Society and the ICFAI
Universities have an unhindered right
to use the trade names/marks either
“ICFAI”, “Icfai” and/or “icfai”,
but will immediately cease using
“Institute of Chartered Financial
Analysts”. In furtherance, the ICFAI
Society and the ICFAI Universities
will change their respective legal and
trade names wherever necessary such
that the words “Institute of Chartered
Financial Analysts” (in full form) are
deleted.
(b) The ICFAI Society, CCFA and the
ICFAI Universities will not use
their trade names, trademarks or
designations, CFA,CCFA , Chartered
Financial Analyst, Institute of
Chartered Financial Analysts of
India, Council of Chartered Financial

AIMR.
In order to comply with the relevant
clauses in the Settlement Agreement,
certain amendments are required to be

Student Activities
Fresher Welcome Party: A Freshers’
Welcome Party was organized on August
19, 2013 to welcome the fresh batch of
students from Sikkim, Darjeeling, Nepal
and Bhutan to join the ICFAI family.
Various cultural events were organized to
show case the culture of Nepal & Bhutan
and Sikkim. Mr. Tsewang Rinzing was
adjudged as Mr Fresher & Miss Seema
Limboo was honoured as Miss Fresher.
The titles of Best Personality & Best
Dress were awarded to Ms. Pema and Ms
Alka Sharma respectively.
Tree Plantation Drive: The Students
of ICFAI University, Sikkim led by
Brig. S.C. Joshi, Registrar, and Mr S T
Venchungpa, Associate Dean, planted
more than 100 trees in the campus on
21st July, 2013. Fruit trees like guava,
avocado and banana were planted as a
campus.
Football Match: Our Students
participated in the Independence Day
Football Tournament (2013) of Sichey
Area. They had an opportunity to show
their prowess as a footballer and were

from 16th January to 19th January, 2014.
This effort was highly appreciated by the
local population and the Superintendent
of Police, Darjeeling District.
Volleyball Tournament: An interdepartmental Volleyball Tournament was
organized in the month of March, 2014.
This tournament was organized for the

Sports In-charge. It was witnessed by
VC, Registrar, Dean, Mr. Sudhakar Rao,
Branding Director, faculty members and
staff of the University. There were six
teams of students and even a team of
our energetic staff and faculty members.

Soft Skills Fest: ICFAI University
Sikkim organized a two day program.
First day was of soft skills along with
demonstration based on the theme
“Best out of Waste”. Apart from
other activities, students from various
disciplines prepared various usable
items from the recycled waste materials
ranging from shopping bags, pen stands,
> village models etc. Amongst all, the most
creative article that drew everyone’s
attention was the “green house” made
from used plastic water bottles. The same
was prepared by (Soft Skills Trainer)
Ms Tenzin Choden’s “The Red Team”
which bagged the First prize.
Farewell Party to the Outgoing
Students (2011-14): A Farewell Party
was organized to bid farewell to all the
outgoing batches. Students from various
batches shared their experiences and
thanked the University in helping them
discover and nurture the real potential in
them. The daylong programme included
dancing, singing, sharing experiences,
poetries followed by socials. Three
students namely Leela Nepal, Om Dorji
and Anuska Sharma were awarded with
Gold Medals for their excellent academic
performance.
Management cum Law Fest: This
fest was held on 23rd Nov, 2013. It was
a combination of literary events, quizzes
and cultural activities. The theme of the
fest was creativity and innovation.

Community Development
The University is extending support to the Alpha Foundation,
a Charitable Trust which supports the activities of Alpha
Center for Learning (ALC) providing free Pre-School Education
and basic education to less privileged children. ALC also
provides Midday meals to these children. Extra-curricular
activities such as sports, singing, dancing and recitations are
Community Development conducted on a regular basis. As the
saying goes ‘Health is Wealth’ health camps are conducted on a
monthly basis with distribution of free medicines and vitamins.
Health Camps, and Awareness programmes were conducted for
community development.
Though this foundation ceased its activities w.e.f. 1st September
2011, the responsibility was undertaken by some faculty
and staff members on voluntary basis mobilizing funds locally.
It was accordingly renamed as Sikkim Alpha Society under
the Chairmanship Mr. S G Tashi and has since continued the
function of ALC.
Distance Education
The University has received approval from the Distance
Education Council for offering programs of the University
through distance mode vide their letter No. F.DEC/Sik/
ICFAI/08/15387 dated 03.11.2008.
The University is offering MBA Program on distance mode.
