Rhyme Time
Bookstart Rhymetimes
Singing rhymes and songs together is a lovely way to bond
with your child and will help them learn how to talk.
Sharing books, stories, songs and rhymes builds vocabulary
and the language and listening skills which are essential in
getting children ready to enjoy school.
All members of the family can join in the fun, including men
too! So ask them to give it a try. They will really enjoy it, and
show that books, stories, songs and rhymes are for everyone
and not only for mummies.

When I was one
When I was one I ate a bun the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the captain said to me
Chorus:
We're going this way - that way
Forwards and back over the Irish Sea
A bottle of rum to fill my tum and
That's the life for me!
When I was two I buckled my shoe the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the captain said to me
Chorus:
We're going this way - that way
Forwards and back over the Irish Sea
A bottle of rum to fill my tum and
That's the life for me!
When I was three I bumped my knee the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the captain said to me
Chorus:
We're going this way - that way
Forwards and back over the Irish Sea
A bottle of rum to fill my tum and
That's the life for me!
When I was four I fell on
the floor the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the captain said to me
Chorus:
We're going this way - that way
Forwards and back over the Irish Sea
A bottle of rum to fill my tum and
That's the life for me!
When I was five I learned to jive the day I went to sea
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the captain said to me
Chorus:
We're going this way - that way
Forwards and back over the Irish Sea
A bottle of rum to fill my tum and
That's the life for me!
Teddy plays on the swing
Little Arabella Miller
Little Arabella Miller
Had a woolly caterpillar
First it crawled upon her mother
Then upon her baby brother
All said “Arabella Miller,
take away that caterpillar!”
Teddy plays on the swing
Teddy plays on the slide
Teddy plays on the swing
And Teddy plays on the slide
And he goes
Tick - tock
Forwards and back
Round & round he goes
Tick - tock
Forwards and back
Round & round he goes
And he goes
Tick - tock
Forwards and back
Round & round he goes
Tick - tock
Forwards and back
Round & round he goes

Dingle Dangle Scarecrow
When all the cows were sleeping and the sun had gone to bed.
Up jumped the scarecrow and this is what he said
I'm a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat
I can shake my hands like this
I can shake my feet like that!
When all the hens were roosting and the moon behind a cloud
Up jumped the scarecrow and shouted very loud
I'm a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat
I can shake my hands like this
I can shake my feet like that!

And now for a story......
Peace at Last, by Jill Murphy.
Pub. by Campbell Books
Here is a story for you to listen to together.
Sharing stories is one the most enjoyable things you
can do with your young child; they will love to hear
a favourite story time and time again.
Peace at Last is one of our favourite stories because
it has lots of opportunities for you and your child
to join in. We hope you enjoy cuddling up and listening
to the story together. Don't forget that there are lots
of books for you and your baby to discover and share
together at your local library.
Have fun!
