This issue of the JEC Magazine includes
a feature on JEC’s expansion in Macau
brought about by the territory’s booming development programme. JEC is
actively involved in projects for the numerous hotels and major infrastructure
developments there, and looks forward
to our participation in the upcoming projects in Macau. JEC is also contributing
to the “The National Energy Complex” in
Thailand, where the Energy Ministry’s office will be co-located with multinational
energy businesses. In the Philippines,
Jardine Distribution, Inc. is also contributing to historical landmark building
preservation and providing training to
National Historical Institute (NHI) staff in
wood preservation techniques to further
maintain the heritage of the Philippines.
It is a pleasure to share with you our
commitment to the JEC family through
increased training opportunities such as
the recent PERGO Authorised Dealers’
Training, participation in the Hong Kong
Institution of Engineers’ (HKIE) Building
Division Annual Seminar, the 2007 Sales
Training Seminar in the Philippines, and
participation in the International Conference on Climate Change held in Hong
Kong.

JEC has also recently been awarded the
ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems certification by the
Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency
(HKQAA). This award further emphasises JEC’s commitment to protect the
environment, to prevent pollution, and
to improve environmental performance.
In an initial step, JEC set up the JEC
Energy Audit team identifying areas of
energy reduction that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut costs from
our offices and workplaces.
It has been very refreshing to see outstanding performance from our annual
JEC President’s Club Sales Excellence
Awards. The awards recognise top sales
performances and aim to encourage the
continued pursuit of excellence. I would
like to congratulate all our outstanding
apprentices and in particular to the recipients of the Outstanding Apprentices
Trainee Awards 2006 - organised by
the Vocational Training Council. Commendations are also in order to the JEC
Thailand team, for receiving the Pride
in Performance (PIP) – Productivity
Enhancement Award from the Jardine
Matheson Group.
There are also increasing opportunities
at JEC to give something back to the
community we serve. Recently, guests
from the Mental Health Association of
Hong Kong were invited by the JEC
Volunteers to visit JEC Headquarters in
Hong Kong. JEC has also been supporting the Phoenix Clubhouse’s transitional
employment programme, and launched
a new volunteer initiative with St. James’
Settlement for the more senior members
of our society to enjoy.
Finally, in June we held our Customer
Cocktail Reception to thank our customers and business partners for their
continued support. This event was attended by over 200 JEC customers and
business partners and where we also
took the opportunity to introduce our new
Building Automation Systems business
to bring tailored solutions to our customers requiring the very best in intelligent
building services.

現今澳門經濟蓬勃，多個發展項目正在動
工，故此今期《怡和機器雜誌》將專題報
導公司的澳門業務如何受惠於這個繁榮局
面。目前，怡和機器正參與澳門多個酒店
及大型基建項目，而預計未來亦會持續參
與當地其他項目，可謂商機處處。此外，
怡和機器亦正參與泰國之「國家能源綜合
項目」，該項目將是日後國家能源部及多
家跨國能源企業的辦事處，意義非凡。菲
律賓方面，怡戴公司現正協助修葺歷史建
築，以及為國家歷史協會職員提供有關木
材保養的培訓，這將有助他們更有效地保
存該國豐富的歷史文化。
怡和機器一直樂於提供培訓機會，以體現
公司重視員工的承諾。因此，公司近日舉
行了「柏地板認可經銷商培訓」，亦參
與了香港工程師學會建築分部之週年研討
會；另外，公司亦於菲律賓舉辦「2007銷
售培訓研討會」，以及參加了在香港舉行
之「全球氣候變化會議」。此等活動均有
助員工增進知識，啟發潛能。
另一方面，怡和機器最近獲得香港品質保
證局頒發ISO 14001:2004環境管理系統
認證。這項認證進一步反映了怡和機器對
保護環境、防止污染及改善環境表現的決
心。此外，怡和機器首次成立「怡和機器
能源審查隊伍」，以找出可進行能源節約
的地方，藉此減少溫室氣體排放，以及降
低辦公室及工作場所的營運成本。
在一年一度的「怡和機器傑出銷售表現
獎」中，多位員工表現優秀，令人鼓舞。
這個獎項旨在嘉許擁有傑出銷售表現的員
工，並鼓勵大家追求卓越佳績。另外，我
謹此祝賀所有傑出學員，尤其是在職業訓
練局主辦之「2006年傑出學徒 / 見習員獎
勵計劃」中獲獎的優秀員工，他們的表現
令人刮目相看。當然，值得表揚的還包括
泰國怡和機器團隊，謹此恭喜他們勇奪怡
和集團之「Pride in Performance 之生產
力促進大獎」。
最後，在六月份我們還舉行了一次「客戶
雞尾酒會」，以答謝客戶及業務夥伴一直
以來的支持。當晚共有逾200位怡和機器
客戶及業務夥伴蒞臨出席，公司亦趁此良
機宣佈全新的「屋宇自動化系統」部門正
式成立，將可為需要智能大廈服務的客戶
提供度身訂造的方案。

社區方面，怡和機器正積極作出回饋。近
期公司的義工隊便邀請了香港心理衛生會
參觀怡和機器於香港的總部，讓其成員更
深入認識公司。另外，公司除支持「卓越
之友」的過渡性就業計劃，亦與聖雅各福
群會攜手合作，開展一項可造福長者的全
新義工計劃。

JEC Awarded ISO 14001:2004 Certification
怡和機器榮獲ISO 14001:2004證書
JEC was awarded the ISO 14001:2004 certification by the Hong Kong
Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) in April 2007. The award is an environmental management standard which specifies a set of requirements for
environmental management systems. The award further emphasises JEC’s
commitment to protect the environment, to prevent pollution, and to improve environmental performance. “Environmental management standards
are constantly evolving and it has been our objective not only to meet but
exceed any environmental requirement. We place a high priority on being a
responsible corporate citizen in the communities in which we operate.” said
Mr James Graham, Chief Executive of JEC, adding “We understand that
renewal of this accreditation is dependent on our continuous improvement in
environmental performance to which all our personnel are committed”.
2007年4月，怡和機器榮獲香港品質保證局頒發ISO 14001:2004證書。該證
書為一套旨在規範環境管理系統之環境管理準則。怡和機器獲授此證書，正
好彰顯了公司對環境保護、減少污染以及改善環境表現的承諾。怡和機器行
政總裁關正仕先生表示：「環境管理標準不時轉變，因此我們的目標不只是達
致這些環保要求，而是要超出準則、做得更好。畢竟，我們一直致力履行企
業公民的責任，對業務所在地方作出貢獻。」他又補充說：「我們亦深明能否
再獲授這個證書，視乎能否在環境表現上保持佳績，為此我們公司定當全力
以赴。」

Building Automation Systems Launched at
Customer Cocktail Reception
「屋宇自動化系統」於客戶雞尾酒會上公告成立
On 22 June, 2007, over 200 JEC customers and business partners
attended a relaxing evening of entertainment, refreshments and
networking at JEC’s Customer Cocktail Reception at the Hong
Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Bauhinia Room. One of
the highlights of the evening was the official launch of the Building
Automation Systems business from a merger of the former Building Controls, Security and Fire Services businesses. Mr James
Graham, Chief Executive of JEC, remarked that the Building
Automation Systems initiative was part of JEC’s broader response
to deliver to our customers a more seamlessly integrated service.
With the Hong Kong skyline and sunset in the background, JEC
and our partners enjoyed a night of connecting professionally.
2007年6月22日，逾200位怡和機器客戶及業務夥伴雲集香港會議展
覽中心紫荊廳，一齊出席怡和機器「客戶雞尾酒會」；該夜大家不僅
盡享娛樂表演及豐富美食，更得以增進彼此關係。活動其中一個焦
點，是公司宣佈經過合併樓宇控制、防盜及消防服務等部門後，現
正式成立「屋宇自動化系統」部門。怡和機器行政總裁關正仕先生表
示，怡和機器一直致力為客戶提供更完善的整合式服務，而屋宇自動
化系統部門的成立，正是實踐這個理念的其中一步。酒會在香港城市
夜色及醉人晚霞的襯托下進行，怡和機器與一眾夥伴均互有專業交
流，關係更添深厚。

菲律賓怡和機器擴張業務
JEC Philippines’ General Manager, Mr Guenter
Taus, in collaboration with Veltrup Technik
Philippines, conducted a seminar at the German Club in Manila on June 4, 2007. Veltrup
Technik Philippines is a well-respected German
company specialising in advanced non-chemical
pipe cleaning systems. Through this collaboration, JEC has widened its range of environmental
services to clients and also enhanced its relationship with the German business community in the
Philippines.
JEC was pleased to participate to improve
relationships and increase awareness of the JEC
brand at the German Club, which has strong
connections to many multinational German companies in the Philippines such as Bayer, BMW,
Lufthansa Airlines, and Siemens, amongst other
German brands, which are greatly respected by
JEC. JEC will continue to identify similar opportunities of partnership to drive further growth and to
establish JEC as the benchmark in engineering
solutions in the Philippines.

JEC Philippines also joined the Building & Construction Interchange (BCI) Asia Top 10 Awards
2007 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Manila in
March 2007. This prestigious event is attended
by leading architects, engineers, consultants
and other design professionals from throughout
Southeast Asia and China. JEC’s eye-catching
booth successfully promoted its services to this
new audience, and JEC’s promotion included
advertising in the FuturArc magazine, electronic
marketing banners on the BCI website and
personal introductions to the top 10 architects
in the country. These activities comprise a key
initiative to increase market awareness of JEC in
the Philippines.
2007年6月4日，怡和機器菲律賓總經理Guenter
Taus先生與Veltrup Technik Philippines公司代
表於馬尼拉之德國總會合辦一個講座。Veltrup
Technik Philippines 為德國著名公司，專門生產先
進的非化學喉管清潔系統。通過此次合作，怡和
機器將為客戶提供更完善的環境服務，亦可與菲
律賓的德國公司加深彼此關係。
怡和機器很高興可藉此機會增進彼此關係以及提
升公司知名度，特別是德國總會與許多在菲律賓
的跨國德國公司有著緊密聯繫，其中包括拜爾

Inspiring Engineering Excellence In Students
優秀學生　盡展工程天份
The winners of this year’s OEPA Hong Kong went to students of
the Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong
Kong, winning through a joint project titled Energy Conserved Water
Heating System.
本年之香港「傑出工程項目獎」由香港中文大學及香港城市大學學生奪得，
其得獎項目名為「節能熱水系統」。
JEC continues to build strong links with the academic world
and to inspire engineering excellence in university students.
Earlier this year, JEC held the Outstanding Engineering Projects Awards (OEPA) in Hong Kong for the second consecutive
year and, inaugurally, in China for the first time partnering with
TsingHua University. The aim of the award is to provide opportunity and incentive to engineering students in their final year
to take their acquired knowledge and skills to the next level, by
employing their innovative ideas in business applications.
In the opinion of the judges, all winners demonstrated enthusiasm, innovation, and excellence in their work. The external
judges for the OEPA Hong Kong: Ir Dr Ko Chan Gock and Ir
Dr Alex Chan, explained that commercial viability would be an
important criteria and is the key driver of the success of the
project. They stressed that all participants
should place strong focus in this area at the
early stages of their projects.
怡和機器一直與學界緊密聯繫，並鼓勵大學
生盡展工程天份。本年初，怡和機器連續第
二年於香港舉辦「傑出工程項目獎」，並首
次聯同清華大學於國內舉辦同一活動。這個
獎項旨在為準工程畢業生提供機會及鼓勵，
讓其把創意運用於實際商業環境，藉此豐富
知識及提升技術。
比賽評審均表示，得獎者的作品展現出熱
情、創意及卓越技巧。香港「傑出工程項目
獎」客席評審高贊覺博士兼工程師以及陳兆
根博士兼工程師均表示，評審的一大準則是
作品意念在商業上是否可行，這對項目成敗
起著關鍵作用。兩人並強調，參加者在項目
最初階段便應考慮這個問題。
The OEPA China Award for Originality was won by a
project entitled GPMB-robot and Award for Business
Application was won by the project entitled VoiceOperated Electromechanical System.
中國「傑出工程項目獎之創意獎」由名為「可重構多足仿
生機器人」的項目奪得，而「商業應用獎」則由名為「基
于虛擬儀器的語音控制機電系統」的項目奪得。

Trane Thailand recently launched New Stylus, Trane’s latest innovative
convertible-type air conditioner to the South East Asian market. Khun
Surichai Patarakitnirun, Managing Director of Trane Thailand, remarked,
”The New Stylus has a state-of-the-art design with innovative, worldclass cooling technology and provides a great choice to today’s lifestyle’s
requirements.” The launch event was held at the Sheraton Grande
Sukhumvit, Bangkok, Thailand.

周年研討會
On 12 March, 2007, JEC participated in the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers’ (HKIE), Building Division, Annual Seminar at
the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai,
Hong Kong. JEC set up an eye-catching booth to display its latest
range of flooring products, including the newly-launched laminated
wood flooring PERGO® Expression™ collection from Sweden,
an outdoor wood Exterpark from Spain and JEC-owned brand of
Eliteflor carpets etc. All the products featured attracted great interest from the seminar’s attendees.

Enhancement Award
泰國怡和機器勇奪「生產力促進獎」
On 22 April 2007, JEC Thailand team received the Pride in Performance
(PIP) – Productivity Enhancement Award for the installation works of the
world’s first and largest radiant floor cooling system installed at the new airport in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport. Jardine Matheson Group Managing
Director, Mr Anthony Nightingale, presented the award.
The judges commented that our JEC team, using extensive testing and

Twelve outstanding apprentices from different trades were selected out
of over 150 nominated applicants. The presentation ceremony was held
on 20 March 2007, with JEC’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr S H Wu, as the

Environmental Architecture
怡和機器協助興建劃時代環保建築
JEC Thailand is proud to contribute to
the “The National Energy Complex”,
an important Thai national project. The
complex will be the new location of The
Energy Ministry’s office and also the
centre of energy businesses including
PTT Exploration and Production Public
Company Limited (PTTEP), Thai Oil
Company and other PTT Group Companies. The innovative new complex is
designed to showcase energy conservation, sustainability, environmentally
friendly products in a safe and reliable
business environment. The architectural
design and concept aims to become a
major Bangkok landmark and a pioneer
concept for South East Asia.
The complex will comprise five buildings, the 36-floor Office Building A, the
24-storey Office Building B, an 8-storey
Multi-propose building, and two 10storey vehicle parking buildings. The
entire complex will focus on an energy
and environmental conservation design
concept and the building façades will be
installed with high efficiency glass panels, designed to conserve energy. The
uppermost part of the building will be fit-

ted with double façade glass wall panels
and high tech shading devices to avoid
direct sunlight and prevent overheating.
The Air-to-air Heat Exchange system will
take dispensable air and feed it into the
void space between the glass walls to
help monitor heated air travelling into airconditioned areas. In addition, roof type
solar cells will be installed to convert
direct sunlight into renewable energy
to power the building. Monitoring and
energy management systems will also
display the amount of electricity production capacity of each system.
JEC Thailand will supply and install the
air-conditioning and ventilation systems,
electrical and communication systems,
and sanitary and fire projection systems
for parts of the complex. The built area
for this project will be approximately
180,000 square metres.

Like most countries in the world, the
Philippines have a long and colourful
history. In order to keep this history alive
for future generations, it is essential to
preserve national shrines and historical landmarks. Unfortunately, many of
these historical structures are old, frail
and in need of preservation, particularly
as most of their building materials are
wood-based.

In view of this, Jardine Distribution, Inc.
(JDist) and Protim Solignum, as part of
their corporate social responsibility efforts, decided to take the initiative in presenting Solignum Wood Preservative to

custodian of Philippine history and cultural heritage. Under the Memorandum
of understanding between JDist, Protim
Solignum and the NHI, JDist and Protim
Solignum will assist the NHI in preserving key historical sites by contributing
Solignum wood preservative and training
NHI staff in proper wood preservation. In
return, the NHI has allowed JDist to use
the historical landmarks in its advertising
and marketing campaign.

JDist has identified the Aguinaldo Shrine
in Kawit, Cavite, in the southern province
of Metro Manila, which is famed for the
location of the proclamation of independence from the Spaniards in 1898,
as the first site for JEC’s restoration
project. A popular site, especially among
students of history, the Aguinaldo Shrine
is a wooden structure that features in
many history books, Philippine currency
notes and national stamps, featuring the
leader of the revolution, General Emilio
Aguinaldo, raising the Philippine tri-color
to declare Philippines’ independence.
As with all wooden structures, the shrine
is prone to termite and fungal decay, and
is urgently in need of careful wood preservation, assisted by Solignum wood
preservative.
JDist and Protim Solignum will also be
assisting NHI in restoring other national

Macau Expansion

Macau’s property expansion is providing JEC with many new customers and
business opportunities. In 2002, the
government of Macau decided to abolish
a casino industry monopoly that had
been in place for 39 years. This decision followed a downturn in Macau’s
economy, which had been hit hard by the
Asian financial crisis of 1997. After the
abolition of the casino monopoly and the
government stimulated foreign investment Macau witnessed a growing influx
of tourism, especially from Mainland
China.
Within a short period of time, Macau
started to boom and its gross domestic
product (GDP) has seen double-digit
growth rates since 2002, reaching a
peak of 28.6% in 2004. The rapid
expansion of the gaming industry by
overseas casino operators has led to
massive investments in construction
projects in the former Portuguese enclave, which became a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of
China in 1999.
Rapid Project Developments
This remarkable pace of development
in Macau over the last five years has
provided much new business to JEC,
which has many products, solutions and
services to offer building professionals,
to the gaming industry in Macau and
throughout Asia-Pacific.
“We have, so far, completed many
projects in Macau for the majority of
leading hotels and resorts. Currently we
are involved in several large projects,
which are also connected to the Macau
construction boom,” says Mr James
Graham, Chief Executive of JEC, “We
see a growing demand for many of our
solutions, products and services, such
as security and fire services, building
management systems, electrical and
mechanical services, power generation
and building materials.”
One of these projects, as an example,
was the award of the trade contract for
the design, supply and installation of an
emergency generating system at one of
the largest hotels on the Cotai Strip. The
system, which consists of six 2000 kVA
11 kV diesel generator sets and other
equipment, will be accommodated in the
energy centre of the casino complex.
The generating system will provide
emergency power backup within 10
seconds of mains failure, including emergency lighting and other safety systems
that JEC installed for the entire resort.
At another hotel and casino complex on
Taipa Island, JEC installed two systems
of three 1800 kVA diesel generator sets.
The systems have been equipped with
a specially designed retractable exhaust
pipe, which maintains the aesthetic features of the building.
At one of the leading Hotels in downtown
Macau, three 2000 kVA diesel generator
sets have been installed along with other
equipment. A tailor-designed air-intake
fan system ensures sufficient ventilation
for the generator set room. Meanwhile,
other projects have been carried out, or
are ongoing, at resorts such as Wynn
Macau, the Grand Emperor Hotel, the
Grand Waldo Hotel, the Sands Macao,
MGM Grand Macau, Galaxy Mega Resort, City of Dreams and Macao Studio
City, to name a few.
JEC supplied building maintenance
units, generator sets, ironmongery, building materials, Casino Automated Secure
Transfer systems, money transfer
chutes, stair-lifts for the disabled, dock
equipment, baggage handling systems,
laundry equipment, fire-rated ductwork,
water-feature systems and pumps and
valves etc, to many of these clients. “We
are happy to be the partner of choice
for such distinguished and well-known
brands in this rapidly growing market,”
says Mr James Graham, Chief Executive
of JEC.
Renowned China and South East
Asian Experience
As a specialist engineering company,
JEC has a long and reputable experience of doing business in the region,
playing a role in the industrialisation of
China and Southeast Asia since 1923.
Today, JEC is one of the region’s leading
engineering companies with offices in
China, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines. JEC’s Hong Kong headquarters
are geographically well situated, as
many of the contractors, architects and
consultants in Macau are Hong Kongbased companies.
JEC also has an office in Macau with
some 30 employees. “Our Macau office
conducts several functions,” says Mr
Terry Sing, Manager of JEC Macau office, “We have an engineering team that
focuses on supporting the Hong Kong
office to run and liaise the projects, and
handle matters that require immediate
attention. We also have special maintenance and renovation teams in Macau,
focusing on air conditioning and building
management systems.”
JEC’s Active Role in Macau’s
Future
Besides the projects linked to the ongoing casino boom, JEC is also actively
involved in projects for many other hotels
and infrastructure, such as the Macau
Airport, Macau University, the Macau Police Department, governmental bureaus,
residential areas, shopping centres,
shops, elderly homes, and is also supplying the security system for the Macau
Prison.
JEC is keen to take an even more active
role in planned infrastructural projects
in Macau, such as the planned inaugural Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge
project, which has been forecasted to go
ahead this year. JEC will also participate in the proposed tunnel between the
Macau peninsula and Taipa Island, as
well as an extension of the Guangzhou
Railway to Cotai and a light rail system
within the city.
It is difficult to imagine anyone denying that the future seems bright for both
Macau and JEC.

in Hong Kong in May 2007 and were
provided with thought-provoking information on anthropogenic-induced climate
change, the potential impacts, proposed
mitigation and adaptation measures,
and strategies to implement appropriate
mitigation.
JEC is committed to providing customers
with world-class environmental engineering solutions, and is continuously
seeking new and refined products to
benefit our customers, the community
and the environment that we share. To
further demonstrate JEC’s commitment
to environmental protection, to minimise
pollution, and to improve environmental
performance, JEC successfully acquired
the ISO 14001:2004 certification in April
2007, and immediately started to move
into the next phase – Energy Audit. "We
are constantly vigilant about any new
technologies or methods in the market
that are beneficial to the community
and customers," explained Mr Penn
Yeung, Operations Director of JEC,
"We understand the need for quick and
efficient action and are moving swiftly to
significantly reduce JEC’s greenhouse
gas emissions. By leading by example
and carrying out periodic Energy Audits
of our own offices, we believe we can
identify Energy Management Opportunities where saving of energy and money
can be realised.”

At JEC, Energy Audit is part of our DNA
and is not driven by a recent boardroom
conversion to environmentalism. At
JEC, it is all about hardheaded business
economics. The imperatives of energy
challenges including ever increasing
energy costs, calls for active investigation
of energy conservation measures, which
allow less energy consumption for the
same level of activity. The JEC Energy
Audit process aims to balance the total
energy inputs with its use and serves to
identify all the energy streams in the systems. It is also able to quantify energy usage according to every discrete function.
An objective Energy Audit allows energy
cost optimisation, pollution control, health
and safety benefits and characterises
the methods to improve and optimise the
operating and maintenance practices of
the system. It can also be instrumental
in coping with variations in energy cost
availability, reliability of energy supply,
decisions on appropriate energy mix,
and decisions on using improved energy
conservation technologies.
The JEC Energy Audit team is headed
by Mr Penn Yeung and led by Mr
Raymond Fung, JEC Environmental &
Safety Manager, with members comprising qualified and highly trained engineers. The team members have already
assisted JEC in identifying areas of
reduction of energy consumption that will
cut costs and also reduce greenhouse
gas emissions.
“Should we be able to take onboard all
recommendations in our Audit Report,
then approximately 130 megawatt-hour
(MW-h) could be saved which in year
will prevent the emission of 110 tonnes
of carbon dioxide, and save thousands
of dollars in our electricity bill” said Mr
Raymond Fung, “We are optimistic that
we can cut JEC’s power consumption by
5% by the end of this fiscal year.”
JEC in-house Energy Audit team is also
ready to put their skills and technical
know-how into a business case framework for our clients, and have already
completed an Energy Audit for two Hong
Kong pumping stations belonging to
Drainage Service Department (DSD).
Costs involved in conducting JEC Energy Audits are affordable and can be
offset against the savings made in power
bills following implementation of energy
conservation recommendations. In order
to make a far more substantial cut in carbon dioxide emissions, further commitment and awareness is needed to make
a difference to the global challenges of

「氣候變化國際研討會」於2007年5月在香
港召開，怡和機器員工亦有份出席會議。
研討會上，員工了解到許多發人深省的現
實，當中包括人為引起的氣候變化、其潛
在影響、建議的紓解及應變措施，以及落
實適當有關紓解措施之策略等。
怡和機器一直致力為客戶提供世界級環
境工程方案，並不斷追求更新、更精良
的產品，以讓客戶、社會大眾及周遭環
境受惠。為進一步彰顯怡和機器對環境
保護、減少污染以及改善環境表現的承
諾，怡和機器於2007年4月成功取得ISO
14001:2004環境管理系統證書，並立即
朝「能源審查」這另一階段邁進。「我們
一直密切留意市場上能讓社會及客戶受惠
的新科技或方法，」怡和機器業務董事楊
志強先生解釋說，「我們深明行動必須快
捷有效，並正努力大幅減少怡和機器的溫
室氣體排放。透過以身作則及對辦公室進
行定期『能源審查』，我們相信公司定可
找到更多改善能源管理的良機，進一步節
省能源及金錢。」
對於怡和機器來說，「能源審查」乃是公
司的根本信念，絕非董事會忽然奉信環保
主義。怡和機器一直堅持業務要合乎經濟
效益，而急需改善能源運用，部分原因是
能源成本不斷上漲，以及愈來愈多聲音要
求對能源節約措施進行更積極的審查。因
此，公司一方面維持正常運作，一方面則
盡量減少能源耗用。怡和機器的能源審查
過程，旨在使能源損耗及其用途更趨平
衡，識別出各系統的能源使用狀況，並根
據每個獨立功能計算出能源用量。客觀的
能源審查不僅能夠優化能源開支、控制污
染、改善健康及安全，而且可找出改善系
統運作及保養的方法。審查亦有助應付能
源成本及能源供應的波動，以及選擇適當
的能源組合及能源節約科技。
怡和機器能源審查隊伍由楊志強先生擔任
主席，成員均為專業且訓練有素的工程
師，並由怡和機器環境及安全部經理馮卓
堅先生專責帶領。成立至今，該隊伍已曾
協助怡和機器找出可節省能源的地方，因
而減省了開支及降低了溫室氣體排放。
「假如把審查報告的所有建議付諸實行，
公司將可節省約130兆瓦·時，即全年可
減少排放110噸二氧化碳並節省數千元電
費。」馮卓堅先生表示。「我們有信心在
本財政年度結束前，怡和機器的耗電量可
減少5%。」
怡和機器內部的能源審查隊伍亦準備就
緒，利用其技術及專門知識協助客戶改善
營運。事實上，該隊伍近期便為渠務署
屬下兩個香港島泵房進行能源審查，成效
卓越。
怡和機器能源審查的運作開支並不高昂，
而落實能源節約建議後所節省的電費，足
可抵銷這筆開支。為了大幅減少二氧化碳
排放，社會必須加倍關注及努力解決有關
問題，這樣才有望化解全球氣候變化的挑
戰。有見及此，怡和機器樂意率先行動，
在公司內外致力解決這個日益嚴峻的環境
挑戰。

On 21-22 May, 2007, JEC held a Sales
Training programme in the Philippines
with Mr Ken Tashima as the resource
speaker and opening remarks given by
Mr James Graham. The two-day training
was attended by sales engineers from
Jardine Distribution, JEC Philippines,
and JEC Singapore.
During the training many valuable lessons were learned by all, including how
to understand buyers’ personalities,
how they think, and even how to react
in different situations in actual selling
scenarios. “The training taught me how
to identify the ‘pain’ of the client and
showed me that the skill of identifying
the client’s likes and dislikes will enhance the sales ability to open up the
client, develop trust and clearly identify
every client’s needs”, explained Mr Wing
Asuncion, DIY Supervisor of Jardine
Distribution.
Role-playing was a major part of the
comprehensive training programme
allowing the techniques learnt to be
practiced immediately. The attendees
effectively understood and learned how
to apply the different strategies in selling
and in the process, were able to know
their regional counterparts better. Mr
Deo Magnayon, Sales Engineer of JEC
Inc., further emphasised “The sales
training was very effective and easy to
comprehend. I especially liked the role
playing as everybody was participating
and so there was significant interaction

and assistance between colleagues”.
With continuous support in training and
consistent techniques across the group,
JEC looks forward to a better-integrated
and stronger regional sales team and
concomitantly enhanced sales growth.

Jardine Distribution, Inc. conducted its
2007 Sales Training Seminar in March
2007, where 80 field staff participated
in this annual event in the JEC Philippines’ calendar. The sessions were held
in Clark Field, Pampanga, for the Luzon
team, and Cagayan de Oro City, for the
Visayas and Mindanao teams.
The overarching theme of the Sales
Training Seminar was “Raising the Bar
in 2007” and one of the main objectives
of the training was to ensure that all
field staff have a clear understanding
of the different brand’s directions and
programmes, which are vital in achieving
sales budgets.
Jardine Distribution General Manager,
Mr Edwin Hernandez, stated in his
welcome remarks, “The team has finally
achieved the target mark last year but
we now need to look ahead and focus on
going beyond this milestone.” The seminar also included a session on “Power
Speaking”, which was facilitated by an
expert speaker from the Toastmasters’
Club. The field staff appreciated this
session as they learned new techniques
and tips in making effective product
presentations. Presentation skills are important as there are constantly chances
to present JEC to different audiences,
for example, the Farmers’ Meetings
presentation of features and benefits of
JEC brands.

More than a thousand families were left homeless in the wake of a
six-hour fire that struck in Mandaluyong, Philippines on 7 April, 2007
and at least 400 homes were razed in Barangay Addition Hills. Unfortunately, in this tragedy, five JEC Philippines employees were victims
of the fire; Mr Bernard Casipit, Mr Filo Loberiz, Mr Johnny Rivo, Mr
Ronald Fevidal and Mr Alejandro Isaac.
JEC extends its outmost consolidation to victims of the disaster and
have immediately taken steps of assistance to affected staff members.
Many thanks go out to fellow staff from both the Philippines and Hong
Kong for generously contributing support through donations of supplies, money, food, clothing and support.

Fourteen guests of the Mental Health Association
of Hong Kong’s Lei Cheng Uk House, were recently
invited by the JEC Volunteer Committee to visit the
JEC Headquarters in Hong Kong for an office tour
and a pizza luncheon. One of the guests, Kim Mui remarked, “Seeing the JEC operation first hand, through
a well illustrated corporate presentation and office
tour conducted by the JEC Volunteers, allows us to
better understand the full range of JEC’s businesses
and JEC’s genuine commitment to give something
back to the community”. The highlight comprised the
visit to the JEC CEO’s office for a discussion and
a photo shoot with Mr James Graham. It was truly
an unforgettable, sharing experience enjoyed by all
participants.

Visits to Elderly Homes!
登門探望長者！
In late June 2007, JEC volunteer team members launched a new
volunteer initiative. Partnering with the St. James’ Settlement, JEC
volunteers visited singleton elderly people, in their own homes, in
the Central and Western districts of Hong Kong. Ms Christine Pang,
Secretariat of the JEC Volunteer Team, remarked that our target
this time was to visit 100 homes. The main intention is to spend
some quality time with these singleton elderly by sharing mutual interest conversations and to report back any areas that may require
follow up by the St. James Settlement’s social workers.

JEC Supports Re-integration Rehabilitation Programme

In support of Phoenix Clubhouse’s transitional employment
programme, JEC has been employing their members, on a
part-time basis, to handle the mass mailing requirements for
JEC Magazines. The Phoenix Clubhouse is a community adult
psychiatric rehabilitation service under the auspices of the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, The University of
Hong Kong and the Queen Mary Hospital. The Phoenix Clubhouse provides rehabilitation services to people with mental
disorders in Hong Kong. JEC, in support of their programme,
offers similar meaningful employment opportunities to their
members.
為支持「卓越之友」的過渡性就業計劃，怡和機器一直以兼職形
式聘用其會員，以處理怡和機器雜誌的大量郵寄工作。「卓越之
友」為一所提供精神病復康服務的社區機構，並由香港大學醫學
院精神病學系及瑪麗醫院經營及資助。「卓越之友」為香港精神

2006年5月加入怡和機器，此前曾於多家著
名日本、美國及法國跨國公司擔任要職，
負責地區性的銷售推廣、業務拓展及工程

制及自動化」及「配電應用」等範疇擁有逾
15年豐富經驗。閒暇時，他喜歡打高爾夫

P C Chan is the General Manager of
JEC Singapore. Prior to joining JEC in
May 2006, PC held several key regional
positions in Sales & Marketing, Business Development and Engineering with
leading Japanese, American and French
multi-national companies. He has more
than 15 years of experience in the fields
of control and automation and electrical
distribution applications in the South-East
Asian region. In his spare time, PC likes
to play golf and enjoys taking his two
young boys out for hiking and cycling.
You’ve been with JEC for more
than one year now, what area
would you identify as strengths
for JEC Singapore?
Being part of Jardine Matheson group
and JEC, we are perceived and expected
to deliver better service and quality than
our local competitors, be it in Singapore
or other markets such as the Middle
East. Leveraging on Jardine’s network
and JEC group’s engineering and sourcing capability, we are able to gain access
to more business opportunities in the
market.
What key projects are you working on at the moment?
Apart from working our base business in
building / facility maintenance services,
we are working on some of the prominent
commercial projects in Singapore such
as the SANDS Integrated Resort and the
Marina Bay Financial Centre. Also, we
target the burgeoning residential property
developments in Singapore with supply
of building/architectural products.
In the booming Middle East, we have
been working on projects in Bahrain,
primarily in building product supply. We
intend to expand into this region by ex26

panding our geographical coverage into
areas like Doha, Abu Dhabi, and increasing our offering to include E&M products.
What is the biggest challenge
you face today and how do you
tackle it?
JEC Singapore is a relatively new entrant into a mature and saturated market,
and we need differentiation to stand
out against the stiff competition, either
through providing alternative solutions or
better services. The tight labour market,
due to the construction boom, has posed
significant challenges in recruitment and
retention of skillful technical staff in our
trade. At JEC we must also look for new
ways to offer more value-added services, constantly.
What do you do to engage your
staff in their work?
Firstly, I am lucky with a talented and
committed team. For my direct reports,
I normally schedule one-to-one review
meetings with them, to talk about any
problems and the key challenges facing
them. I also coach them and also discuss development plans on an ongoing
basis. JEC’s management team also
conducts skip-level meetings to increase
interaction and ensure voices from the
junior positions can be heard equally and
contribute to our growth.
We are currently in the midst of implementing action plans proposed by the
Employee Engagement Committee,
formed as a result of Employee Engagement survey, which include regular
communication sessions, recreational
programmes and casual drinks and staff
discussions. Whenever possible, I also
try to have lunch, coffee or drinks with
my team.

你以什麼方法激勵員工投入工作？
首先，我很幸運擁有一個能力卓越且熱誠
投入的團隊。日常工作中，我會跟員工進
行單對單的檢討會議，以直接了解他們的
問題及困難。我亦會不時給予員工指導以
及跟他們討論發展計劃。此外，怡和機器
的管理層亦會進行跨職級會議，以增加與
基層員工的接觸並聽取其意見，致使公司
可穩健地發展。
目前，我們正落實「僱員參與委員會」的
計劃。該委員會的成立始自「僱員參與意
見調查」，其計劃包括定期意見交流會、
康樂活動、美食聯誼及員工討論會等。另
外，我亦會盡量抽空跟我的團隊午膳或吃
喝聊天，增進彼此關係。
