SERVING THE UNDERSERVED
‘Take Me To The River’ is an award-winning full-length documentary film directed
and produced by Martin Shore. The film brings multiple generations of award-winning Memphis and Mississippi Delta musicians together, following them through the
creative process of recording an historic new album. ‘Take Me to The River’ features
Terrence Howard, William Bell, Snoop Dog, Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Lil P-Nut, Charlie
Musselwhite, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Yo Gotti, Bobby Rush, Frayser Boy, The North Mississippi All-Stars and many more.
The ‘Take Me To The River’ Education Initiative seeks to inspire
a deeper understanding of history, culture, and the meaning of
cross-generational and inter-racial collaboration. Through the
program we bring the film directly to schools and share a screening, master classes, Q&A sessions and more, interacting directly
with students, teachers and the community to bring history to life
and foster a deeper understanding and respect for all cultures,
genders and generations.
Partnering with Berklee College of Music, the initiative has
created a comprehensive music curriculum that’s been utilized
by Berklee City Music schools in 47 cities across the U.S. In addition, teacher trainings and interactive live events have been
presented in New York City, Nashville, Compton, Valencia and
many other cities, reaching hundreds of thousands of students
and teachers. More live events and education sessions are
planned for 2016.
The ‘Take Me To The River’ Educational Mission Statement:
