Fondation Jeanne Sauvé
Jeanne Sauvé Foundation
Who are we?
Since its inception in 1989, the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation has
engaged more than 800 next generation leaders from across
Canada and over 70 countries around the world.
Building on 25 years of programming, the Foundation has developed
a unique leadership development model. It focuses on transforming
outstanding young change agents into self-actualized, globallyminded public leaders and game changers.
Since 2003, the Foundation’s flagship Sauvé Scholars Program and
Public Leadership Program have empowered 138 young leaders
from 50 countries.
The mission of the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation is to connect,
engage and empower a new generation of public leadership in
Canada and around the world to address key global challenges.
The Foundation draws on the example of The Right Honourable
Jeanne Sauvé as a public leader of strength and vision. She was
passionate about empowering young people to help build a better,
more peaceful world.
The Foundation brings together a diverse group of remarkable young
people from Canada and around the world who are passionate
about solving some of our most pressing challenges.
These leaders live together in the culturally rich and diverse city of
Montreal while experiencing a residential year of intense inquiry,
exchange, collaboration, and supported personal transformation.
Together, participants hone their skills as cross-cultural and
cross-disciplinary thinkers, communicators and collaborators.
The Jeanne Sauvé Foundation Pillars
The Foundation cultivates the next generation of globally-minded public leadership through three areas of mutually supportive activities:
Program
Network
Forum
The Jeanne Sauvé Public Leadership Program invests in the next generation of
leaders to help solve global challenges. Every two years, the program brings together a
select group of young people from Canada and around the world with strong leadership
records and a passion for improving the world for a year of reflection, transformation
and collective engagement.
The 10-month intensive, in-house, intercultural, international program invests in the
capacity of these young leaders to effect positive change by cultivating in them the
skills required to work across cultures, countries, disciplines and sectors in the public
arena. The program includes professional development workshops and seminars with
prominent figures from the world of academia, politics, business, advocacy, media,
philanthropy and the arts. At the end of their year in residence, Fellows return to their
respective countries, communities and organizations to apply what they’ve learned and
benefit from ongoing support.
This program builds on ten years of success delivering its predecessor, the Sauvé
Scholars Program.
The Jeanne Sauvé Fellows Network is a global community of emerging leaders
who are passionate about changing the world. The Foundation engages and actively
supports Sauvé Fellows around the world through innovative programming:
The Sauvé Encore! Program reconvenes past Sauvé Fellows to participate in
intensive training, as well as to connect and collaborate on thematically aligned
interests.
The Collaboration Fund aims to amplify the impact of the community of Sauvé
Fellows around the world by supporting their collaborative efforts to take on key
global challenges through public leadership.
Through events sponsored by the Jeanne Sauvé Forum, the Foundation engages the
broader public on globally significant challenges while showcasing the innovations,
achievements and impact of emerging leaders in Canada and around the world.
The Annual Jeanne Sauvé Address is its premier public event. Since 2010, the
Foundation has invited a distinguished Canadian woman to speak on an issue that
represents the focus of her professional career. Past speakers have included the Right
Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Sally Armstrong, Marie Wilson, Dr. Sheema Khan and
Céline Galipeau.
The Forum’s public engagement and education activities enrich public debate and
raises awareness of complex global problems while promoting the skills, values and
public leadership needed to address them.
Every two years, the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation focuses its activities
on a different globally significant challenge. For the 2015-17 period,
the Foundation has taken up a challenge that was central to Jeanne
Sauvé’s life work: Public Leadership for Culturally Diverse
Societies.
Through its three pillars, the Foundation investigates multiple aspects
of this challenge from diverse cultural and disciplinary perspectives
and will explore, cultivate and showcase public leadership
approaches to fostering social cohesion in culturally diverse societies.

Valued Strategic Partners
The Jeanne Sauvé Foundation derives much of its strength from its unique
setting at the heart of the multidimensional cultural and academic
communities to which it belongs and contributes.
Its founding academic partner and home is McGill University, one of the
top 25 universities in the world.
Since 2012, a second partnership with Concordia University has brought a
new vibrant dimension to the Foundation’s programming.
One of the most enriching aspects of the Jeanne Sauvé Public Leadership
Program is the pairing of Fellows with leading academics from both
institutions who serve as academic mentors throughout the in-residence
year.
