Remembrance Sunday
by Mia Edgington, Chairperson
On Sunday 10th November, the school
councillors took part in a Remembrance
Day service and parade.
Our parents dropped us of at St Johns
church. We were there for an hour
singing hymns and learning more about
poppies and why we wear them. But there
weren’t just school councillors attending
there were guides, beavers, cubs etc.
Members of the public too!
After the service there was an amazing
parade with a great marching band. We
paraded from the church up to Five
Ways Island. When we got there, the
vicar gave a short speech, then the two
minute silence started. Out of respect,
the Year 6 school councillors (Mia, Leah,
Sam) laid a wreath along with other
people (Guides, Beavers etc.)
Once the wreaths had been laid, the vicar
then, read out the names of JUST the
people in Heath Hayes that had fought to
keep England free and were badly injured
or sadly died.
Year 6 Enterprise Day
School councillors at the Remembrance service.
Overall we had an amazing day and we all
thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
Compiled from reports by Louisa, Jessica, Molly, Taylor, Amelia,
Liam, Sam, Mia, Holly, Shannon, Megan and Eden
On Thursday 5th December 2013, Y6EL and Y6NC took
part in a head-to-head competition to see who could
be crowned as ‘Young Enterprise Challenge Winners’.
There were ten teams, all with unique ideas, battling
it out. Each started with £15 and planned to make the
most profit.
First, all the teams bought in two tables, which were
decorated to make them more appealing for all their
products to be displayed. There were lots of
different ideas, from cupcakes to stationery, from
jewellery to home-made lemonade, from ‘Beat the
Goalie’ to ‘Guess how many sweets are in the jar’!
Shortly after, all the Reception children came in, to
buy a variety of amazing items. Then, when they all
cleared the hall, KS1 and parents came in to purchase
some other objects, followed later by KS2.
After an hour of long hard work, the teams packed
away and waited curiously to find out the result…
In third place was Worldwide (Y6EL) and in second
place were the Baker Bros (Y6NC). The winning team
was called ‘Perfect Prices’ (Y6NC) and they had over
£79 profit! That is an amazing amount to be raised
for charity. Overall, the first ever Year 6 Enterprise
Day was a brilliant success and we raised £396!
Every one tried their hardest. It was a great
experience! It was an amazing day for the Year 6
pupils because, for a few hours, we got an insight into
the business world. We would like to thank all the
teachers especially Mr. Bennett!! All of this money will
go to charities, which the school council will choose.
Hopefully, there will be more of these fantastic days
in the future!

Head Teacher’s Awards
Cassie Langley and Carys Meredith-Jones, Year 2,
wrote some brilliant speech bubbles, which so impressed Mr Bennett, that they gained a
Head Teacher Award each. See Awards on the Achievements page.
Well done, Cassie!
