Vermentino is typically described as zesty and refreshing and the 2009 is no exception. The nose displays aromas of fresh
crunchy pear, with a subtle tropical background. The palate has some white stone fruits, pears and melons with a citrus backbone. It is a textural wine, in a minerally way, and finishes lively and fresh. Perfect with shellfish, crustaceans and salads.

“I Drink it when I‟m Happy and when I‟m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I‟m lonely. When I have
company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I‟m hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never
touch it. Unless I‟m Thirsty”
Madame Lily Bollinger, Quotation from the Daily Mail, 17th October, 1961
This white variety is receiving some well deserved attention lately. They show lifted aromatic and citrus
characters with a long, clean, crisp and dry finish.

Very delicate with green tints. The O‟Leary Walker Riesling from Polish Hill is wonderfully crisp and refreshing.
With a bouquet showing lifted aromas of freshly cut green apple, this is a racy wine of outstanding freshness.
This is a clean and refreshing middle weight wine that can show asparagus, gooseberry and fruit salad. On
the nose and has a lasting and acidic finish.

With the rate of change gaining pace, it is great to reflect back on the things we love:
food, wine, travel and other fine things.
Without a doubt the most popular white wine variety at the present time. Australian chardonnay has moved away
from over-use of oak to more elegant and seductive styles that are as good as any in the world.
A variety of flavours from citrus, melon and fig to stone fruit characters enhanced with complexity often underpinned by lees, malo and subtle oak.

A complex nose offers aromas of lifted figs, peach, lemon and fragrant nutmeg oak. The palate has
depth and complexity, „Peter Lehmann‟ Chardonnay has flavours of stone fruit, while a creamy long texture is enhanced by the layers developed from the „wild‟ ferment.
Truly an Alsace specialty, this white variety is pungent and full bodied with exotic aromas and a rich full
bodied palate that has a clean finish.

which is rich and exotic and goes on and on.
“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink, I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think
about the workers in the vineyard and all their hopes and dreams. If I didn‟t drink this wine, they might be
out of work and their dreams shattered. Then I say to myself, it is better that I drink this wine and let their
dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.”

Yalumba Viognier displays aromas of apricot nectar, with lifted honeysuckle and orange oil perfume.
A long, rich and luscious palate with intense stone fruit flavours, particularly white peach and apricot,
finishing with an aromatic citrus freshness.
The Italian/ French connection is gaining popularity. These can be elegant and gently perfumed
wines or luscious and creamy, almost unctuous and complex numbers. On the palate they can show
minerally and grassy/herbaceous notes with hints of apricot and honeysuckle with great texture and
length.

This variety seem to attract the most colorful descriptions from many a wine writer and enthusiast. Burgundy, where this grape possibly expresses “terroir” better than any other, is undoubtedly the ultimate
benchmark. It typically shows dark berries to stewed plums on the nose underlined by truffles, fungal or
barn yard tones. The mouth feel is rich and full, held up by tannins that are silky smooth, balanced with
subtle oak and acid.

Though not for the faint hearted the „Massena‟ has huge volumes of fruit, spice, tannin and alcohol.
Rich, intense and powerful it will surely reward those who are looking for something to sink their teeth
into…..as they say fortune favors the brave!
