A
Note From the Pro
s we head into June and
the summer golf season,
we begin to think about
our remaining majors and
tournaments. Along with our
Senior Club Championship and
Junior Club Championship
coming up at the end of June, we
also have our Hickory shaft
Throw Back tournament and the
US Open Challenge, so please
mark your calendars for these
events. We are also pleased to
announce another
comprehensive summer junior
program at Coosaw Creek this
year. We will be hosting summer
junior camps and will be
participating in junior interclub
matches which will begin this
month. We will once again have
the Little Links Season starting at
the end of June for juniors to
play golf in a “team” concept
and get accustomed to
competitive golf in a fun
environment and we hope to
have an even bigger turn-out this
year. We feel we have some
great summer events and
programs to offer to you and
hope that we will see everyone
out on the links.
Sincerely,
John Harrison

ow is the time to work on your game,
as the season kicks off. We offer private
instruction at a fee of $50 per lesson.
Book a series of 3 private lessons for $125 or a
series of 5 private lessons for $200. Group
lessons, clinics and playing lessons also offered.
Are you struggling to hit solid shots?
Sometimes all it takes to find your groove is a
good swing thought. Try this: Keep your
height throughout your swing. Feel tall by
keeping your spine straight when you hit shots.
This will help you maintain the width of your
arms and prevent you from scooping the ball.
Here’s one more thing to think about: Where is
your weight during your swing? The worst
place is on the heels. You can’t play good golf
from there. Make good practice swings with
your weight distributed more toward the balls
of your feet. Feel yourself standing tall with
your weight properly balanced which will
produce more consistency. If you have any
questions, please feel free to ask any of our staff
professionals for help.

available if your guest(s) are interested in joining
Coosaw Creek. So, get your group together and bring
them out to play.
PRACTiCE RANgE
The range will close at 5:30pm on Sundays &
Thursdays. On Mondays and Fridays the range will
open at 8:30am to accommodate weekly maintenance.
New practice turf has been installed at the driving
range to provide a more “authentic” turf feel and to
reduce “shock” when hitting from the mats. The
maintenance crew will be working to improve the turf
at the Member’s practice tee. Please respect the
closure of this tee from time to time so that our crew
can complete necessary maintenance.
Also, we would like to remind our members that
range balls and bags are NOT to be removed from the
driving range. If you have any bags or balls in your
cars, golf carts, or garage, we ask that you please
return them to the driving range so we can keep them
in circulation for the enjoyment of all members and
guests. Thanks!
ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER IN THE GOLF
SHOP PRIOR TO STARTING PLAY. Any players
found on the course without checking in will be
charged the full golf rate. Please help us by notifying
the North Charleston Police if any suspicious activity
is witnessed within the community or on the golf

Golf Course Update
T
g REENS U PDATE & M AiNTENANCE P LANS
he mini-verde grass on the greens is now
actively growing due to the warmer
temperatures. Many of the thin areas on
the greens have seen significant grass growth,
and we are optimistic that throughout the
summer we will continue to see substantial
grass coverage. On Wednesday June 8th, we
will aerify all greens on the course to continue
to stimulate grass growth and improve root
depth and health. We have added sod in some
of the weaker areas of greens that we felt
needed additional turf.
We are now ready to do some additional work
on #14 and #15 greens. On Wednesday June 1
we will be aerifying the greens on these two
holes. We will collect the cores from the
aerfication of the green where grass coverage is
healthy and we will insert the healthy cores into
the weak areas of the greens. The green on hole
#14 will remain open during this process but we
will rope off the area of the green while it grows
in. This section of green will be hand watered
TENNIS ANYONE?
12
frequently for a few weeks in an effort to keep
the newly planted cores healthy. Because of the
large size of the area being plugged on hole #15,
we will close the green and use a temporary
green for a few weeks while we re-establish the
grass coverage. These two greens will be
watered heavily until the grass is healthy
enough for normal maintenance.
It is also important to note that we plan to
increase the frequency of small tine aerifications
(spiking), fertilizing, verti-cutting and top
dressing of all greens in an effort to strengthen
the grass and root system during the growing
season, as well as improve playing conditions.
Most of these programs will not result in any
serious disruption to play, but please be patient
with us as we try to stimulate as much grass
growth as possible on the greens.
We thank you for your cooperation and
patience as we continue to make improvements
and repairs on the course. If you have any
questions about course related items, please feel
free to contact me.
Gordon Williams,
Golf Course Superintendant
Hi my name is William Wert. I'm originally from Oxford, MS but I've spent
about half my life in the Summerville, SC area. I've been playing tennis since I
was 13, and played high school tennis under coach Heinz Maurer, playing in
multiple state playoffs. I previously played college tennis at the University of
Mississippi. I have now been teaching tennis for 6 years, and have been certified
by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) for 2 years.
I will be offering private lessons this summer at the Coosaw Creek Country
Club tennis courts. Private lessons are available to anyone of any age (although I
typically suggest 8yrs+) and focus on developing necessary skills, while keeping
the emphasis on having fun.
Lesson rates are $40 an hour for private instruction and hitting lessons (hitting
lessons are for anyone who feels they have fully developed their strokes but
would like to further develop their match play mentality). Group lessons are also
available $20 an hour per person for 3+ people.
I am available by appointment only and can be reached by phone at (843) 8345915 or by email at [email protected].
