HOLINESS IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT PURSUIT: when our children dress
up as saints to mark All Saints Day, it's both cute and serious. It's a reminder that
our role is to help them pursue that ideal for real, not just for play. And it reminds
us that we too, all of us -- however old or young we are -- are called to be saints.
We are all in process toward that goal, ever growing to become more Christ-like
with the help of the Holy Spirit and the encouragement of one another. That's the
purpose of our annual Parish Mission -- to awaken us anew, to prod us, to
motivate us to keep pursuing holiness. Holiness looks different for each of us
according to our role in life. But in all of us it will look like love in action. To be
holy is to be like God. God is love. Come to our Mission. Let God help you
become a saint.

Our return to God for Blessings on
Sunday, October 25, 2015
Our sincere thanks to all who have volunteered their time &
talent to help the parish in any capacity in this past week.
Stewardship Thought: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3) “Poor in
spirit” is confusing for many of us. It simply means to place
your trust in God, putting His will first and being strong in
faith. As we celebrate the lives of the saints on All Saints Day,
remember, we, too are called to be saints. Dialing down our
own pride and ego and turning up the humility will help us on
our path to sainthood.

 FROM THE ASSOCIATE PASTOR’S DESK 
Dear Parishioners,
The Feast of All Saints always presents a unique challenge to every sincere
person who wants to get to heaven and be a saint, and do so while living an
ordinary life.
Young Dominic Savio (1831-1847) made it very clear to all his contemporaries,
despite his tender age, that he had every intention to be a saint. Known for his
unique ability to remain chaste in the midst of associating with tough kids, he
was nevertheless a normal boy in all aspects, except for the fact that he was
never afraid to say his prayers daily, no matter the jibes he got, and he was
never afraid to stand his ground if he felt he was right. He had a unique
admiration for and attraction to the Sacrament in the tabernacle. Around the age
of 13, just about three years before his death at age 16, he began attending Don
Bosco’s (later a saint himself) school in Turin, Italy, that reached out to the
needs of tough street kids in the city. Don Bosco ran a tough school. He had no
problems boxing ears when some kids needed it. Rather than fear Don Bosco,
the priest, they respected him. He had been a street kid himself and learned a
good left-hook. These street kids, if they attended his school, were expected to
go to Mass on Sunday, like it or not, and learn a trade in printing or carpentry.
They went to confession on a regular basis, or else!
Pastoral Council
Finance Council
Admittedly, Don Bosco’s first impression of Dominic was that he was a rather
frail and sickly kid, and most likely wouldn’t last a day. Surprisingly, as frail
and sickly as he was, most of the thugs kind of admired the little guy. Dominic
threw himself into everything, but continued his daily regimen of prayer, and
stood his ground when he felt something was not quite right. Frankly speaking,
observing the kid, Don Bosco couldn’t figure out how this kid maneuvered his
way amidst all the students. Observing Dominic the few years he attended the
school, Fr. Bosco often wondered how a kid so young could be so holy and so
normal at the same time. Dominic died on semester break at the age of 16 from
tuberculosis. Young as he was, his enthusiasm for just living infected and
affected his school mates and the priest himself. Don Bosco lived long enough
to witness most of his kids go on to live good lives as husbands and fathers,
priests, one a bishop and one a cardinal. But he never lived to see Dominic
canonized a saint but had come to believe Dominic to be one.
If a kid can become a saint, living a normal life and dying from natural causes,
so can we. We need to live a good life, pray a lot, do good works, and always
believe Jesus will be with us in good times and in bad. It’s not as easy as it
sounds, but it can be done. So who among us wants to be a saint?
Sincerely,
Fr. Bernie

Saints of the Week
All Saints
Throughout the year we celebrate the feasts of many saints:
saints from the distant past and the recent past; saints who died
of natural causes and saints who were martyred; saints who
died when young or middle-aged or old; saints who were born
into poverty and saints who were born into wealth and royalty;
saints of all races and from countries throughout the world.
In the early centuries of the Church, as more Christians were
martyred for their faith and it became difficult to keep track of
all their names, the Church instituted a common feast for all
the saints, known and unknown, and in the eighth century Pope
Gregory III moved the date to November 1, where it remains.
This year it occurs on a Sunday. Let us praise the saints and
pray to them. Let us model our lives on theirs. Let us read
about them and read their own writings. Such riches await us!
National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated
throughout the United States November 1-7, 2015. This week
offers a special time in our parishes and schools to recognize
and foster vocations to the priesthood, and religious life. On
Wednesday, November 4, the dioceses of Ohio will join
together as one spending time in adoration and prayer before
the Blessed Sacrament praying specifically for an increase in
priestly and religious vocations. Adoration is scheduled at Holy
Trinity Church from 9:30 am - 8:00 pm on Wednesday,
November 4.
HOLY TRINITY SATURDAY MASS: with the time change
this weekend the Saturday Mass at Holy Trinity will return to
4:30 p.m.

EMBRACING LIGHT & HOPE DURING the HOLIDAYS
Normally a time of joy and celebration, the holidays often have
a much different effect on those who have experienced the
death of a loved one. For some, they can result in a renewed
sense of personal grief, accompanied by feelings of sadness,
loss, loneliness and emptiness. “The holidays are such a special
time and there is a great deal of emotion and activity associated
with them; yet if a loved one has died, the holidays are not the
same. They can be difficult and painful yet joyous.” Please join
