It was a great weekend at the 2014 Mission Aviation Fair. God blessed us with incredibly beautiful weather on Saturday.
Sunday started with rain, but cleared up for the afternoon. For both days attendance was 2,750, plus volunteers, staff and
those who flew in. About 150 attended Friday Film Night. We’re thankful for safety at the event and travels to and from it.
As people arrived through the Welcome Tent, they were invited
to register for door prizes. From those who registered, they came
from over 186 different churches! Some small, some large, a few
from out-of-state. The largest numbers came from Calvary Church
in Lancaster, Lancaster Alliance Church and the Worship Center.
We also learned how people heard about the event. Highest
categories were: through a Friend, WDAC Radio, Advertiser/Merchandiser/Penny Saver, newspaper, and WJTL Radio.
There were also a significant number of “first-timers” to the Fair!
Millersville Bible Church had the largest number of volunteers.
The Winsome Class of Calvary Church prepared and served a
delicious pancake breakfast to about 490 people! That got us off
to a good start Saturday morning. (Donations of $2,350 helped us
keep the Fair a free-admission event.)
Twenty-six exhibitors joined
us this year. Many reported
hundreds of visitors to their
displays with lots of good,
“significant” conversations.

What a special opportunity people had to get a ride in a missionary aircraft. JAARS pilots
gave rides to 299 people in the Robertson R44 helicopter. MAF gave 124 rides in the
Cessna 206 aircraft.
The flight demonstrations combined aircraft from several missions in fly-bys with interesting
and informative commentary.
I-TEC’s new UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)
demonstrated how medications could be
flown to remote areas in an emergency.
MAF displayed their beautiful new amphibious Kodiak, headed soon for Indonesia.
Tons of children had fun while learning
about missions:
• Journey to six countries
• Treasure hunt with prizes
• Jump house, balloons, face painting
• Balloon Man and Caricature Artist
• Chris Ivey, world-class juggler program
• Alpacas and the Candy Drop
• Little Airplane Train with 2-engine tractor
Four different speakers shared in speaker sessions spaced throughout the days. We are grateful to them for being with us to share about
the ministry of their organizations. A new large screen (used also for
Film Night) was prepared for our use this year and into the future.
Good missions books and other items were available from various
agencies at the Book Table. Sales were $2,700 this year, including
ethnic jewelry. We sold out of the CDs for I-TEC’s Journey into the
Amazon. We have acquired some more copies since then, so let us
know if you’d like one.
Special thanks to all the volunteers who served in various areas.
These people worked hard, had fun doing a little “home mission” service and really enabled the Fair to function! Could you be a volunteer
next year? Especially needed will be parking volunteers.
Food Service went extremely well this year with a more efficient
setup and extra workers and cashier stations for the Saturday noon
rush. Growing in popularity are the “walking taco” and whoopie pies.

Calvary Fellowship Homes enjoyed their ride in a
‘whirly bird’ - Otherwise known as a helicopter.”
From exhibitors:
• “Thank you for the investment you make to keep
this fair exciting and relevant.”
• ‘‘The crowds browsing the displays were genuinely interested and unerringly polite. It was a
great time and we certainly met our goal of having
meaningful conversations with people who might
be able to get involved...at a significant level.”
• “A number of folks expressed interest in serving
in missions. A number are planning to attend one
of our mission retreats....We feel that the outdoor
event is a less threatening environment to engage
people in conversation...”
• “I have much more detailed and focused conversations at Smoketown than any other venue
that I participate in....”
Prayer Items
• We praise the Lord for a good Aviation Fair, as we sensed the Lord working
through the various aspects.
• We’re thankful for a safe event--with
people coming in from far and near, the
plane & helicopter rides, and flight demos.
• Please pray that contacts made and impressions felt will lead to a great new crop
of missionaries and involvement of God’s
people as they are gifted to serve Him.
