Our Top Picks
The Americana acts at Carnegie Hall over the last few months
have been a real highlight for me, so I’m always glad to see
some more! It’s such infectious music; I love the dancing
rhythms, lilting melodies and true sense of joy that comes
from those traditional instruments.
Michael Hunter, Press and Marketing
Rothes Halls is a fabulous venue
for music and to be able to hear
legends like The Three Degrees and
Leo Sayer, live, is quite something.
I’m sure these will be sell-outs, so get
booked up now!
Lorna Wilson, Box Office
The drama programme at Adam Smith
Theatre is always fantastic – the only
trouble is fitting them all in the diary!
I'm particularly looking forward to
Stone Cold Murder in May, The Ghost
Train in June and All My Sons in
September.
Mark Wheelwright, Facility Manager

IRMLER LIEBEZEIT
JOACHIM IRMLER AND JAKI LEIBEZEIT
Jaki Liebezeit was a co-founder of the great experimental rock band Can in 1968, and his drumming was
the driving force behind the Krautrock movement – think of him as the Charlie Watts of the underground.
Hans-Joachim Irmler was an original member of Faust, leading lights of the 1970s German music scene,
and one of the most influential avant-garde groups of all time.
Together, they make music that is balanced
precariously between Liebezeit’s hypnotically
funky percussion and Irmler’s exploratory organ riffs;
the result is a kind of psychedelic fugue, at once
repetitive and disordered.
The upcoming UK shows will be their first
appearance as this duo. Both have played the UK
several times with other projects. Hans-Joachim Irmler
and Jaki Liebezeit are two of the biggest legends in
experimental music, and it's a true pleasure to see
them collaborating on new material right her
in Kirkcaldy.

when music is allowed to go free.” The Quietus

Here’s a real treat for drama fans – Arnold Ridley’s classic comedy starring Jeffrey Holland (Hi-de-Hi!),
Corrinne Wicks (Emmerdale, Doctors), Tom Butcher (The Bill, Doctors), Sophie Powles (Emmerdale),
David Janson (Get Some In!, Keeping Up Appearances) and Judy Buxton (On the Up).
A group of travellers – including a newlywed couple, an estranged couple, a self-indulgent young
dandy and an elderly spinster with a parrot – are stranded in the waiting room of an isolated railway
station on a dark and stormy night. Each reacts with various degrees of credulity to the station
master’s warning of death to anyone who sets eyes on the ghostly train that haunts the line.
Ridley’s inspiration came after becoming stranded overnight at Mangotsfield Station in Bristol,
now a disused station on the Midland Railway main line.

Fame! is nothing short of a global phenomenon.
The screen sensation of the 1980s is the stage sensation
of the 1990s and beyond! And if the recent smash-hit
West End production is any indication, Fame! The Musical
is indeed ‘gonna live forever’. Set during the last years of
New York City’s celebrated High School for the Performing
Arts on 46th Street (1980 –1984), Fame! The Musical is
bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse
group of students as they commit to four years of
grueling artistic and academic work. With candor,
humor and insight, the show explores the issues that
confront many young people today: issues of prejudice,
identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse
and perseverance.

To celebrate the centenary of Arthur Miller’s birth,
Rapture Theatre present an exciting new production
of this multi-award winning American masterpiece.
Set just after the Second World War, in the backyard
of Joe and Kate Keller, this gripping and passionate
drama ranks as one of the classics of our time.
Joe and Kate try to keep alive the memory of their
son Larry, who disappeared in the war, by the
planting of a tree in his honour. But Larry’s
disappearance is not the only part of the family’s
past that they can’t put behind them. Not
everybody has forgotten the court case that put
Joe’s partner in jail or the cracked engine heads
Joe’s factory produced, which caused the deaths
of twenty-one pilots.
Following a stormy night, when Larry’s tree is
blown down, Joe and Kate’s lives are threatened
by a series of events that could destroy the very
foundations of their lives.
With all the excitement of a taut thriller, All My Sons
is a powerful drama that crackles with emotion and

GARY LITTLE:
THE THING IS
Gary Little is one of the most consistent and funny acts in Scottish Comedy.
He is recognised as a master storyteller and in this show he talks Death,
Love and Dog-walking! Despite his imposing physical presence – a 6’ 2”
skinhead – Gary has an incredibly personable, relatable style. Combine that
with his unflinching honesty and openness – and just a hint of vulnerability –
and audiences everywhere fall in love with his easy charm. He has that rare
gift which turns mundane, every-day experiences into pure comedy gold
and will have you simply crying with laughter.

BLACK IS THE COLOR
OF MY VOICE
Inspired by the life of Nina Simone, Apphia Campbell's hit one-woman
show follows jazz musician and civil rights activist Mena Bordeaux as
she undergoes a three-day period of spiritual cleansing following the
untimely death of her father. During a three-day spiritual cleanse, Mena
reflects on the journey that took her from a piano prodigy destined for
a life serving the church to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of
the Civil Rights Movement. In Fife after multiple sold-out performances
in Shanghai, NYC and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, ‘Black Is the Color
of My Voice shines’ (Time Out Shanghai).
“Campbell may wear Simone’s trademark head wrap and sing some
of her best-known songs, but her performance goes beyond mere
impersonation.” ★★★★ The Times
“Apphia Campbell is nothing short of sensational... colourful,
quiet, roaring, intense, distant and reflective. She will make
you cheer for her, smile with her and then sting your eyes

BETTY AND
THE BOY WITH
SHEESHAM AND
LOTUS & SON
Here’s an Americana double-bill for lovers
of toe-tapping, rhythm stomping tunes.
Betty and The Boy defy simple categorisation: the quintet’s string-laden melodies occasionally anchor
them in the territories of folk, bluegrass, or minimalist rock, but they’re more at home in the cracks
in between. Betty Jaeger’s voice will reach up, take you by the hand and sweep you along on an
entrancing musical journey.
“As the old and new worlds collide, musical forms get deliciously twisted into something highly
original and thoroughly enjoyable.” Simon Holland, Folk Radio UK
Sheesham and Lotus’ commitment to the preservation of music and tradition of the past is indelible.
At the core of their show is a repertoire based on their love of the American fiddle tune, joyously played
with banjo and subsequently, a startling array of traditional and non-trad instruments.
Sheesham and Lotus have established themselves as an act that has it all, combining astounding
musicianship and fearless grooves with a show that is dynamic and entertaining.
“Lovely sepia-tinted music – I absolutely love it.” Bob Harris – BBC Radio 2

TINA MAY
& NIKKI ILES
Tina May is one of the UK’s finest jazz singers. Recognised as a
musician as much as she is for being a naturally outstanding
interpreter of lyrics, she is completely in command of her material
in whatever setting she finds herself, be it with a big band, trio or
string quartet.
Tina and pianist Nikki have created an understanding that is much
more than that of singer and accompanist: they are a team who
respond to each spontaneously and create magic in the moment.
The songs they present range widely from afterhours intimacy to
up-tempo swingers, from the Great American Songbook to the
chanson of Edith Piaf (May is a fluent French speaker) to blues and
bossa nova and into the contemporary canon of Earth Wind & Fire
and Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen. Add to their musicianship a natural
and completely engaging onstage personality and May’s
knowledgeable and witty between song chat, and you have an
evening of jazz that’s superbly satisfying and thoroughly entertaining.
