Breast prostheses customised for you
One thing Dorset Orthopaedic enjoys is a new challenge so when we were
approached by Lesley, with the request to make a customised silicone
breast cosmesis, that looked and felt like part of her, we listened to her
needs and adapted our skills to develop a realistic breast prosthesis. We
knew we had to produce a silicone breast that was not only extremely life
like but was also soft enough to pass the “Hug Test” - when two people hug
the breast feels comfortable and natural. The breast prosthesis also needed
to be easy to put on & off, and easy to clean.
Full or Partial Breast Prosthesis
Our full or partial breast prosthesis can transform your shape, creating a
natural appearance and boosting your confidence. Created from soft silicone
gel, our custom designed breast prostheses fit comfortably and naturally to
your body, making it possible to wear the bra of your choice. The product
can be easily applied and removed effortlessly with no residue.

Lesley underwent a mastectomy
in 2010 as a result of breast cancer
and after finishing chemotherapy
in 2011 she felt her prescription
prosthesis was inadequate and
wanted an alternative solution.
Lesley did not want to opt for
reconstructive surgery, as she
didn’t want to be out of work or her
routine any longer than necessary.

Nipple Prosthesis
A nipple cosmesis is an alternative solution for those who may not want to
proceed with nipple reconstruction or a nipple tattoo. This can be unilateral
or bilateral depending on your needs post surgery and will complete the
appearance of the breast, creating a realistic finish.
Designed to look as natural as possible, the nipple fits securely to the
existing breast, giving a natural appearance that boosts confidence.

Simple steps to create your breast prosthesis
Every woman is unique and we understand that body image post-surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy
is extremely important to the physical and emotional well being of the individual. As this is a sensitive time,
our clinicians and technicians are here to guide you through the process, to ensure a respectful and discreet
service throughout.

Next, your chest will be cast in
order to start creating the product
to specifically suit your body.

You will be included in every
step of the process, consulted
on the shape and colour of the
product and fine details of the
skin and nipple. This process is an
integral part of your physical and
emotional journey.

During your first consultation
our considerate clinicians will
discuss with you your personal
requirements and expectations.

Before the prosthesis is completed, you will
be invited to attend fitting appointments
where the final details can be checked and
confirmed - this can sometimes take between
2-3 appointments depending on complexity.

Once you are entirely happy with the
appearance and fit of the product you will then
take final delivery of your breast prosthesis.
