Capear la crisis está requiriendo la atención y los esfuerzos
de todos. En esta situación, mantener firme el timón en
nuestras apuestas estratégicas es muy importante y también lo que presión de administrar un día a día complicado
no acabe malbaratando las buenas cartas que tenemos de
cara al futuro. El SIL 2011 ha mantenido el pabellón del reconocimiento de la logística y ha puesto en evidencia que
el sector logístico tiene que cerrar filas junto con su mejor
aliado, la industria, para defender conjuntamente los intereses de la economía productiva frente a otros intereses más
especulativos.
To weather the crisis requires the attention and efforts
of all of us. In this situation, keeping the helm hard
in our strategies is very important as well as keeping
the pressure under control so as to prevent that hard
daily circumstances may ruin good future prospects.
SIL 2011 has set the logistics recognition on a high
standard and has made clear that the logistics sector
must close ranks with its main allied, industry, in order
to jointly defend the interests of a productive economy
from other more speculative interests.
El Salón ha dado la oportunidad de apreciar que la mala
situación económica ha tocado fondo en nuestro país y
que muchos indicadores señalan que el tierno repunte de
muchas industrias debe mimarse para que siga creciendo
la competitividad, la productividad, los números negros…
para que florezca el empleo lo antes posible. Defender los
intereses de nuestra industria se convierte en estos momentos en un imperativo.

The Exhibition has stated that this bad economic situation has already hit rock bottom in our country. It
has also stated that many indicators show that recovery time of many industries must be fussed over for
the growth of competitiveness, productivity and black
numbers... for favouring work blooming as soon as
possible. Defending our industry’s interests becomes
an imperative nowadays.
La privilegiada posición de Cataluña en el Mediterráneo y
en Europa nos regala un abanico de expectativas que hay
que saber aprovechar. Nuestro puerto, por ejemplo, precisa de una eficaz conexión ferroviaria para penetrar nuestros productos en Europa, y aumentar el peso de nuestras
empresas en el exterior, un objetivo que puede y debe alcanzarse sin poner en jaque la conectividad del territorio
que se halla en el entorno portuario, que es el territorio más
fecundo de Cataluña en cuanto a productividad se refiere.
The privileged position of Catalonia within the Mediterranean and Europe gives us a wide range of expectations that we have to take advantage of. Our port,
for instance, needs an efficient railway connection to
allow the entrance of our products in Europe and to
rise the weight of our companies abroad. This is an
objective that can and must be reached without threatening the connectivity of the territory surrounding the
port, which regarding productivity is the most fertile
territory in Catalonia.
Las conexiones con el Extremo Oriente que el año próximo estrenaremos son una oportunidad para dar este salto
adelante, pero nuestra actitud no debe ser miope ante los
intereses ajenos. Necesitamos que Cataluña cuente con
industrias y firmas propias, con productos propios que
creen empleo. De nada servirá conectar con Europa si únicamente llevamos producto que no es nuestro. Industria
y logística deben cerrar filas para garantizar la producción
propia y no sólo para ser playa de desembarco de otros.
Para ello, la movilidad y la conectividad industrial no deben
constreñirse.
Connections with the Far East to be opened next year
are a great opportunity to make a step forwards. But
our attitude shall not be myopic to the others’ interests. We need that Catalonia has its own industries
and companies, with own products that create workplaces. Connection with Europe will be useless if we
only bring there others’ products. Industry and logistics must stick together to guarantee our own production and not for just being the disembarking place for
others. Thus, mobility and connectivity shall not be limited.

Han sido años de intenso trabajo de un equipo profesional con un claro objetivo: conseguir que España tuviera un
Salón de logística para el sector que fuera un auténtico
referente internacional. Hoy, podemos decir sin falsas modestias que el SIL es el segundo Salón logístico de Europa
y el primero de España.
There have been years of hard work of a professional team with a clear objective: creating a Spanish
logistics Exhibition to help the sector become a real
international reference. Today we are not being falsely modest when we state that SIL is the second logistics exhibition in Europe and the first one in Spain.
En la edición del 2011 de nuevo el SIL volvió a ser un lugar
de excepción para conocer de primera mano oportunidades internacionales de gran nivel, ya que contamos con la
visita de importantes delegaciones comerciales de China,
Turquía, Brasil, Argentina, Egipto, Argelia o EE.UU, entre
otras. Al mismo tiempo celebramos la 9ª edición del Fórum
Mediterráneo de Logística y Transporte. De este modo, el
SIL puso nuevamente en práctica otro aspecto clave de su
filosofía: ir siempre por delante, buscar los lugares y oportunidades con mayor potencial de crecimiento futuro.
SIL 2011 was, again, the place to get to know firsthand high level international opportunities, since we
received the visit of important international delegations such as China, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Egypt,
Algeria or USA, amongst others. We also celebrated
our 9 th Mediterranean Logistics and Transport Forum.
This way SIL developed its work vision: to go one
step further, to seek new places and opportunities
with more potentially future growth.
Hace trece años, fuimos capaces de dar vida a una idea, a
un proyecto. Nos convertimos casi en visionarios por creer
que un espacio dedicado a un sector como el de la Logística, que aún tenía mucho camino por recorrer, podría llegar
tan lejos. El tiempo, el trabajo y el esfuerzo de muchos nos
han dado la razón.
No sé hasta donde podremos llegar. Pero el equipo humano que presido tiene siempre como objetivo crecer, mejorar
los servicios y ser útil al sector, sin dormirse porque, aunque no es tarea fácil, nos hemos convertido en un modelo
a seguir, copiar y batir. De hecho, tienen ante ustedes imágenes de una realidad exitosa fruto de mucho esfuerzo e
ilusión: un Salón 2011 lleno hasta la bandera, en donde se
han hecho muchos contactos y negocios, reactivando el
sector en tiempos de dificultades, aspecto que tiene más
mérito aún si cabe.

Thirteen years ago, we were able to materialise an
idea into a project. We almost became visionaries
who believed that a space dedicated to a sector such
as Logistics, which had still a long way to go, could
get so far. Time, hard work and effort of many have
proved us right.
It is uncertain for us how far we will reach. But the
human team that I work with is constantly focused on
growth, the improvement of services and being useful to the sector. We have become a role model that
everyone wishes to follow, imitate and try to beat, so
we are not facing an easy task. May this publication
reflect the images of success, as a fruit of much effort
and enthusiasm: a 2011 absolutely packed where
many contacts and business have been made, reactivating the sector in difficult times, an aspect that
makes SIL even worthier.
Por mi parte, un compromiso: mejorar y crecer en todo,
metros cuadrados, internacionalidad y servicios. Sólo me
queda agradecer de corazón a todos su participación y su
confianza. Seguiremos trabajando por la logística.

El SIL volvió a demostrar en su decimotercera edición que es una apuesta segura. 51.000 visitantes profesionales, 600 empresas participantes, un 40% de internacionalidad, el mayor programa
de conferencias del sector, 3.210 asistentes a las jornadas técnicas y una cifra de negocio en torno a los 2.000 millones de euros son algunos de los datos de una edición marcada por la calidad.
On its thirteenth edition, SIL proved again that it is a safe bet. 51,000 professional visitors, 600
participating companies, 40% of internationality, the biggest conferences program of the sector,
3,210 attendants to the technical conferences and the estimated turnover was around 2,000 milion Euros are some of the figures of an edition which managed to revitalize the logistics sector.
El Salón Internacional de la Logística y de la Manutención volvió a ser el lugar ideal donde acudir para hacer negocios y contactos. En un contexto de dificultades económicas, el
SIL 2011 logró superar la situación con más de 600 entrevistas
comerciales entre directores de logística y empresas participantes, más de 1.000 solicitudes de entrevistas entre visitantes
profesionales y empresas participantes y la presencia de delegaciones comerciales internacionales de países como China,
Turquía, Egipto, Argelia, Argentina, EE.UU o Brasil. Negocios,
contactos, conocimiento, profesionalidad… fueron las tónicas
de una edición muy positiva que ha reafirmado un año más al
SIL como el Salón de referencia en España y el Mediterráneo y
el segundo de Europa.
The International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition was again the best place to be for making business
and contacts. In a difficult economic context, SIL 2011 was a
breath of fresh air and a shot of optimism for the logistics sector with more than 600 business interviews between companies and logistics managers, and over 1,000 requests for interviews between trade visitors and participating companies and
the presence of international trade delegations from countries
as China, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, Argentina, USA and Brazil. Businesses, contacts, knowledge, happiness… were the trends in
a very positive edition which, once again, consolidated SIL as
the leading Exhibition in Spain and the Mediterranean area and
the second of Europe.

Con una cifra de negocio en torno a los 2.000 millones de
euros, el SIL 2011 aumentó la cantidad y la calidad de sus
visitantes profesionales, un 40% de internacionalidad y un total de 600 empresas participantes. Los 51.000 profesionales
que visitaron del 7 al 10 de junio el SIL 2011 disfrutaron del
“salón de la logística total”, tal como lo define el Presidente
del Comité Organizador del SIL, Enrique Lacalle.
Otro éxito significativo fue la gran asistencia registrada en las
16 jornadas técnicas organizadas, que contaron con 3.210
asistentes y la participación de ponentes de reconocido
prestigio nacional e internacional. De esta manera el extenso
programa de conferencias técnicas del SIL 2011 se reafirma
como el punto de referencia para el conocimiento y el descubrimiento de nuevas oportunidades de negocio a todos los
niveles en el sector.
With an estimated turnover around 2,000 million Euros, SIL
2011 registered more visitors than ever, 40% of internationality and a total 600 participating companies. The 51,000
professional visitors who attend the Exhibition from 7th to 10th
June enjoyed an “Exhibition of total Logistics”, as the President of the SIL Organizing Committee, Enrique Lacalle, defines it.

Another significant success was the great assistance registered at the 16 technical conferences organized within the
framework of SIL, which had 3,210 attendants and the participation of speakers well-known national and internationally.
Thus, the wide program of the SIL 2011 technical conferences continues to develop as a point of reference for knowledge and for the discovery of new business.

El Ministro de Fomento, José Blanco, presidió la inauguración del 13º
Salón Internacional de la Logística y de la Manutención. El Ministro de
Fomento estuvo acompañado por el Conseller de Territori i Sostenibilitat de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Lluís Recoder, el Alcalde en funciones de Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, el Secretario de Estado de Transportes del Ministerio de Fomento, Isaías Taboas, el Alcalde electo de
Barcelona, Xavier Trias, el Delegado del Gobierno en Catalunya, Joan
Rangel, el Presidente de la Cambra de Comerç de Barcelona, Miquel
Valls, el Delegado Especial del Estado para El Consorci de la Zona
Franca de Barcelona, Manuel Royes, la Alcaldesa de L’Hospitalet de
Llobregat, Núria Marín, el Presidente del Comité Organizador del SIL,
Enrique Lacalle, y Presidentes, Consejeros Delegados y Directores
Generales de destacadas empresas del sector.

Opening. He was accompanied by the Catalan Minister for Territory
and Sustainability, Lluís Recoder, the interim Mayor of Barcelona,

país que se ha acostumbrado a trabajar con las dificultades que supone estar en la periferia de un estado, que demasiadas veces deja
escapar oportunidades únicamente por el hecho de que no pasan
por el centro, que no pasan por Madrid. Esto seguramente nos ha
hecho ser más fuertes y estar más preparados para afrontar retos
como el que nos plantea este inicio del siglo XXI.
Pero esto también está siendo un obstáculo en un momento como
el actual, en que es más necesario que nunca tener claros cuáles
son nuestros objetivos y cómo tenemos que llegar a ellos. Hablo por
ejemplo del Corredor Mediterráneo. Cuánta energía hemos tenido
que gastar desde Cataluña para justificar la necesidad de construir el
Corredor ferroviario de mercancías del Mediterráneo.
Un eje que, permítanme la simplificación, prácticamente se justifica
solo porqué es la vía más corta, más rápida y más barata de conectar
el Mediterráneo Occidental y España entera con el Centro y el Norte
de Europa. Sin embargo nos ha hecho falta gastar muchos esfuerzos
en hacer una pedagogía, que aunque ha sido muy útil, no nos ha
permitido hasta ahora ir más allá de trazar una línea sobre un mapa.
Cuando en Cataluña hablamos del Corredor Mediterráneo no nos
referimos sólo a una vía de tren, a un trazado sobre un mapa. Estamos hablando de un gran proyecto de país que, lógicamente, tiene
en sus raíces un nuevo modelo de infraestructuras. Un modelo que,
obligatoriamente, nos lleva a romper con la radialidad de la estructura
centralizada que ha impuesto el Estado en los tres últimos siglos. Un
modelo que apuesta por la internacionalidad. Un modelo que comporta un cambio sustancial en la planificación, en la ejecución y en la
gestión de los proyectos.

ofrecido, una vez más, un punto de encuentro cualificado con el fin
que empresarios, políticos y técnicos, empresas y administraciones
podamos divulgar, compartir y contrastar nuestras ideas sobre esta
temática, que tiene una transcendencia enorme para el futuro de
nuestra economía.
The International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition has
offered, once more, a qualified meeting point where professionals, politicians and technicians, companies and administrations
can discuss, share and exchange our points of view about this
subject, which is of a fundamental importance for the future of
our economy.
Ya hace unos cuantos años que el profesor Ramon Tremosa escribió
un libro que se titulaba “Cataluña será logística o no será”. Pues bien,
nos encontramos recorriendo este camino, esta ruta que nos debe
de definir cuál es el horizonte logístico de Cataluña. No es una tarea
fácil porque definir este horizonte, quiere decir alguna cosa más que
hablar de transporte, de infraestructuras de polígonos logísticos o de
mercancías. Definir un horizonte logístico equivale en estos momentos
a definir una hoja de ruta para el conjunto de la economía catalana.
Some years ago Professor Ramon Tremosa yet wrote a book titled “Catalonia must be logistics, or it will not be”. Now then, we
are following this path, this route that ought to define us which
would be Catalonia’s logistical horizon. This is no easy task because defining this horizon means to say something more than
just to speak about transport, logistical sites infrastructures or
goods. Defining a logistical horizon is equivalent now to defining
a roadmap for the Catalan economy as a whole.
Catalunya y sus empresas ya han demostrado que tienen un alto nivel
de internacionalización, el más grande de toda España. También hemos demostrado nuestra capacidad exportadora, que nos está permitiendo encarar la crisis económica con unas perspectivas mejores
que en otros lugares.
Catalonia and its companies have already proved they have a
high level of internationalization, the highest in Spain. We have
also showed our export capacity, which enables us to face the
economic crisis with better perspectives than in other places.
Y todo esto lo hemos conseguido prácticamente solos. Este es un

que son una razón necesaria para el desarrollo, pero no una razón
suficiente. Un modelo que, como decía, es un cambio de concepción
del país y en el que la logística forma parte de la esencia. Es en este
sentido que, por ejemplo, valoro muy positivamente, el protocolo que
firmamos en el marco del SIL con el ministro Blanco para impulsar
las terminales logísticas intermodales. Celebro que el Ministerio se dé
cuenta de la importancia de apostar por la conexión del ferrocarril de
mercancías con ancho internacional con los puertos.
La estrategia de crecimiento del Port de Barcelona, y también del de
Tarragona, sólo la podemos aprovechar si tenemos detrás un país
preparado para gestionar un gran volumen de mercancías y dispuesto a sacar valor añadido. Tenemos una posición geográfica privilegiada, tenemos empresas cualificadas y con voluntad de invertir, pero
nos hace falta que los gobiernos nos pongamos manos a la obra.
En este sentido no puedo dejar de recordar a los responsables del
Ministerio de Fomento y, muy concretamente, al ministro Blanco la
necesidad que tenemos de garantizar la construcción de los nuevos
accesos ferroviarios del Port de Barcelona. Todas las personas interesadas en la logística sabemos de la importancia y urgencia del Port.
Hemos conseguido que inversores privados, nacionales y extranjeros, inviertan importantes cantidades en nuevas terminales, pero esto
no servirá de nada si no garantizamos la construcción de una anilla
de doble vía electrificada y con ancho europeo para agilizar el movimiento de mercancías durante los próximos años. Es una obra costosa pero imprescindible en los tiempos que corren por el innegable
retorno económico y social que comporta, en forma de creación de
ocupación y de generación de riqueza.
Pero hasta incluso haciendo esta obra, corremos el riesgo de llegar
tarde para complementar las inversiones que algunas de estas empresas han hecho en el Port de Barcelona. Es necesario que el Ministerio licite, adjudique y ejecute las obras en el mínimo tiempo posible
para garantizar que a medio plazo el Port pueda conseguir los niveles
de crecimiento previstos.
Pero también es preciso hacer actuaciones rápidas y que permitan
el acceso del ferrocarril de ancho europeo a la zona sur del Port de
Barcelona. En este sentido ya puedo anunciar que juntamente con el
Port estamos estudiando una solución de urgencia para conectar el
Moll Prat antes de finalizar el 2012.
Es un ejemplo de una pequeña actuación que puede generar un retorno económico de forma inmediata, un ejemplo de hacía dónde
debemos enfocar nuestras actuaciones en los próximos años. Y un
ejemplo de cómo recuperar el tiempo perdido para hacer que la logística se convierta en un sector estratégico y se convierta en la locomotora que la economía catalana necesita.

just because they do not pass though the centre, because they
do not pass through Madrid. And this may have made us stronger
and more prepared for responding to the challenges facing us in
this beginning of the 21 st century.
But it is also being an obstacle in a moment as the current one
in which it is more necessary than ever to have clear objectives
and to know how to reach them. I mean, for example, the Mediterranean Corridor. How much energy Catalonia has to spend to
justify the need of building the Mediterranean corridor for goods.
Un axis that, and please excuse the simplification, it is practically
justified by the fact of being the shortest, quickest and cheapest
way to connect Western Mediterranean and the whole Spain with
Central and Northern Europe. However, many efforts have been
wasted to making a pedagogy which, despite of being very useful, has not allowed us to go further than drawing a line in a map.
When in Catalonia we talk about the Mediterranean Corridor, we
do not mean just a railway track or a layout in a map. We are talking about a great country project which, logically, has its roots
in a new infrastructures model. A model that therefore means a
breach with the radial centralized structure imposed by the state
over the past three centuries. A model that bets for internationality. A model that implies a substantial change in projects planning,
implementation and management.
A model that neither can nor ought to remain on the infrastructures level, which is a necessary reason for development, but not
just the reason. A model which, as I was saying, means a change
in the vision of the country and in which logistics is a part of the
substance. In this regard, I very much appreciate, for example,
the protocol signed with Minister Blanco within the framework of
SIL for fostering intermodal logistics terminals. I do celebrate that
Minister realize the importance of betting for the connection between rail freight with international width tracks and ports.
The growth strategy of Port of Barcelona, and Port of Tarragona
as well, can only be exploited if we have a country behind prepared for handling a great volume of goods and ready for getting
added value out of it. We have a privileged geographical position
and qualified companies willing to invest, but we need that governments get down to business.
To this respect, I must remind to the officers of the Ministry of
Development, and very specifically, to Minister Blanco, the need
of guaranteeing the construction of the Port of Barcelona new railway. Every person interested in logistics knows about the importance and urgency of the Port. We have achieved that private investors, national and international, invest important sums in new
terminals but all that will be useless if we do not guarantee the
construction of the electrified double-track ring with international
width track in order to speed up the goods movement during the
next years. It is an expensive work but essential nowadays due to
the undeniable economic and social return, into employment and
wealth creation.
But even making this work, we risk to be late for completing the
planned investments that some of these companies have already
made in the Port of Barcelona. It is necessary that the Ministry
call for tenders, award and execute works on the shortest possible time so as to guarantee that the Port can reach the growth
targeted levels in the medium-term.
All the same, quick actions are required in order to allow the European width track railway access to southern area of the Port
of Barcelona. In this sense, I can now announce that, together
with the Port of Barcelona, we are studying an urgent solution for
connecting the Prat Dock before the end of 2012.
This is just an example of a small action that can generate an
immediate economic return, an example of where we shall focus
our performances over the next years. And an example of how
to make up for lost time so as logistics turn up to be a strategic
sector and the locomotive that Catalan economy needs.

sus procesos de internacionalización y que además genera importantes inversiones.
In an economic context such complex as the current one, just a
few sectors can contribute to the growth of the productive fabric.
Logistics is one of them. It is a strategic sector to the extent that
it provides competitiveness to the companies in their internationalizing processes and it also generates important investments.
Durante los últimos años se ha producido un preocupante goteo de
cierre de empresas o el traslado de sus centros de producción a terceros países que ha afectado a sectores especialmente sensibles
como son la automoción o la electrónica de consumo. Por el contrario, se han realizado importantísimas inversiones en centros logísticos
y se están anunciando otras nuevas, tanto por parte de empresas
catalanas como extranjeras. Las proyectadas actuaciones de centros
logísticos en Cataluña de las firmas Inditex, Mango o Desigual son un
buen ejemplo de ello.
Del mismo modo, la Zona de Actividades Logísticas (ZAL) del Port de
Barcelona ha acogido en los últimos tiempos importantes inversiones
por parte de empresas multinacionales con red propia de logística y
distribución en España y Europa, como Decathlon, Carrefour y Lidl, que
se han instalado en la ZAL para aprovechar la conectividad marítima internacional que les ofrece el Port de Barcelona. La ZAL-Prat, la segunda
fase de la ZAL del puerto, presenta ya una ocupación del 85%.
El Port de Barcelona acoge también la que es la mayor inversión de
una empresa China en España –500 millones de euros– que está
realizando Hutchison, el primer operador de terminales portuarias del
mundo, para disponer de la terminal de contenedores semiautomatizada más avanzada del Mediterráneo. Ésta no es la única inversión
importante que se está realizando en el puerto, puesto que la terminal
de contenedores TCB está siendo ampliada hasta alcanzar las 90
hectáreas de superficie y el primer grupo petrolífero ruso, Lukoil, está
desarrollando, junto con su socio catalán, Meroil, una inversión de
más de 50 millones de euros. Una cantidad similar tiene previsto invertir a corto plazo la compañía Tradebe en el muelle de la Energía. En
la ZAL, la firma DAMM también está llevando a cabo una importante
ampliación de su plataforma logística.
Ciertamente el papel que está jugando el sector logístico en la internacionalización de la economía catalana es muy importante. Durante
los seis primeros meses de 2011 el Port de Barcelona ha manipulado
más de 1 millón de TEU, con un incremento del 18% respecto al
mismo periodo de 2010. Este crecimiento ha sido motivado, principalmente, por el buen comportamiento de la carga contenerizada de
exportación, que ha crecido un 16%. En el caso de los automóviles,
la exportación a través del puerto se incrementó en un 33% respecto
al año pasado. En el contexto actual de estancamiento del consumo
interno, la exportación se perfila como la gran oportunidad para salir
de la crisis.

meeting point for logistics sector in Spain. SIL has challenged the
difficulties of this economic situation by maintaining a high level
of exhibitors and visitors.

de Barcelona estamos haciendo todo lo que está en nuestras manos
para conseguir que los proyectos ferroviarios estratégicos, como son
los nuevos accesos al puerto y el corredor ferroviario mediterráneo,
sean una realidad a corto plazo. Se trata de unas infraestructuras
determinantes para el futuro del puerto pero también para el futuro
de nuestro país.
During the past years, there has been a worrying dripping of company closures as well as a relocation of their production centers
to third countries, facts that have seriously damaged sectors particularly sensitive as automotive or consumer electronics. However, crucially important investments in logistics centers have been
carried out and some new ones are being announced either by
Catalan or international companies. Actions to be developed in
logistics centers of Catalonia by firms such as Inditex, Mango and
Desigual are good examples.
Likewise, over the last years, the Port of Barcelona Logistics Activities Area (ZAL) has taken in important investments by multinational companies with their own logistics and distribution networks in Spain and Europe, such as Decathlon, Carrefour and
Lidl, which have settled in ZAL for taking advantage of the international maritime connection offered by Port of Barcelona. ZALPrat, the second phase of the port ZAL, shows now an occupation of 85%.
Port of Barcelona also hosts what represents the major investment of a Chinese company in Spain —500 million euro— carried out by Hutchison, the first port terminals operator of the
world, in order to have the most advance semi-automatic containers terminal of the Mediterranean. This is not the only important investment been carried out in our Port, since the containers
terminal TCB is being extended to 90 hectares and the Russian
petrol group, Lukoil, is making, together with its Catalan partner
Meroil, an investment of 50 million euro. A similar amount will be
invested in the short-term by Tradebe in the Energy Dock. In ZAL,
the company DAMM is also carrying out an important extension
of its logistics platform.
Thus, the role of the logistics sector in the internationalization of
the Catalan economy is certainly very important. During the six
first months of 2011, Port of Barcelona has handled more than
a million TEUs, with an increase of 18% compared to the same
period in 2010. Such growth has been motivated, mainly, by the
good performance of full container load export, which has increased by 16%. In the case of automobiles, export through the port
increased by 33% compared to the previous year. In the current
context of stagnation of domestic consumption, export is emerging as the main opportunity to get out of the crisis.
Betting for logistics is betting for competitiveness. Catalonia is in
need of a strong logistics sector as well as of a powerful and efficient infrastructures network to successfully get out of the current
economic conditions. Logistics plays its role of getting local industry products to their consumers, which are farther every time.
Large infrastructures —port, airport— have been extended and
ought to develop their full potential. Rail freight remains as the unresolved issue and particularly if we pretend to give our economy
the European dimension deserved and for which it is prepared
to. From Port of Barcelona we are doing everything we can for
making that strategic railway projects, such as the new accesses
to the port and the Mediterranean railway corridor, can become a
reality in the short-term. They are decisive infrastructures for the
future of our country.

La internacionalidad volvió a ser uno de los aspectos destacados del Salón Internacional de la
Logística y de la Manutención. El SIL contó con la
participación de un 40% de empresas internacionales y recibió la visita de distintas delegaciones
comerciales internacionales que se interesaron por
la logística española y establecieron relaciones comerciales de futuro. En este sentido, el SIL recibió
la visita de importantes delegaciones comerciales
de potencias como China, Turquía, Egipto, Argentina, EE.UU., Argelia y Brasil, entre otros países.
Internationality was again one of the most distinguished features of the International Logistics
and Material Handling Exhibition. SIL received
the participation of 40% international companies and the visit of several international trade
delegations interested in Spanish logistics that
got to establish prospect business relationships.
To this extent, SIL was visited by significant trade delegations from China, Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, USA, Algeria and Brazil, amongst other
countries.

Nuestra valoración es positiva. La edición de este año nos ha
servido para explicar al sector cuál es el nuevo modelo de gestión que Renfe quiere implantar para sus servicios de Mercancías y Logística.
¿El Salón ha cumplido sus expectativas y objetivos?
Sí.

2011?
La calidad y variedad de la oferta de las jornadas técnicas.
El SIL 2011 ha presentado el mayor programa de conferencias del sector con un total de 16 jornadas técnicas
¿Qué opinión le merece el programa de conferencias del
Salón?
Creemos que ha sido un programa muy acertado y de alto nivel, centrado en las cuestiones que más preocupan al sector
de la logística.
Renfe Mercancías se encuentra en un proceso de cambios y reestructuración ¿Puede concretarnos en qué
consiste esta reestructuración?
Consiste en la creación de sociedades comercializadoras (Irion,
Contren y Multi) centradas en el crecimiento, con criterios de
rentabilidad, focalizadas en el cliente y con la posibilidad de
que otras empresas, que aporten valor y/o negocio, puedan
participar en su capital hasta en un 45%.
¿Qué análisis hace de la situación actual de la logística
en España?
Como sector clave dentro de la economía, es evidente que lleva tiempo notando los ajustes que el mercado impone y los
efectos de la balanza entre importaciones y exportaciones marcada por un descenso del consumo.
¿Cómo ve el futuro de la logística en España a corto plazo? ¿Y a largo plazo?
Desde nuestro punto de vista, el ferrocarril está llamado a jugar
un papel más importante para ayudar a las empresas a que sus
procesos logísticos sean más eficientes. El tren tiene que aportar valor al servicio de una logística que facilite la producción
de las empresas y la salida de sus productos, en colaboración
con otros modos, para una logística integral mejor de la que
tenemos. En esa línea está el Plan de Impulso al Transporte
Ferrroviario del Ministerio de Fomento, así como el modelo de
gestión que queremos implantar en Renfe para nuestros servicios de Mercancías y Logística.
¿Cuáles son los objetivos de futuro de Renfe?
Crecer con criterios de rentabilidad y de forma sostenible desarrollando un proceso de internacionalización con el objeto
de dar respuesta a las necesidades de sectores básicos de la
industria nacional y colaborar activamente en la política de sostenibilidad medioambiental del sistema de transportes.

2011?
Our assessment is very positive. This year’s edition has served us to explain the new management system that Renfe
wants to deploy in its Goods and Logistics services.

Yes, it has.
Which aspect of SIL 2011 would you highlight among all?
Quality and variety of the technical conferences’ offer.
SIL 2011 has presented the widest conferences program of the sector with 16 technical conferences.
Which is your opinion of the conferences program?
We think it has been a very accurate and high level program, focused on the main issues of concern for the logistics sector.
Renfe Mercancías is in a process of change and restructuring. Can you explain us in what it consists of?
It consists in the creation of collective management firms
(Irion, Contren and Multi) focused on the growth, with profitability criteria, centred on the client and with the possibility
of letting companies who can add value and/or business to
participate in their capital up to 45%.
Which is your analysis of the logistics current situation in Spain?
As a key sector of the economy, it is clear that it has long
been feeling the market adjustments and the effects of the
balance between imports and exports affected by a drop in
consumption.
How do you see the future of logistics in the shortterm in Spain? And in the long-term?
In our view, railway is being called to play a more important
role in order to help companies to make their logistics processes more efficient. Train has to add value at the service
of a logistics that may facilitate the production of companies and the release of their products, in collaboration with
other modes, so as to get a better integral logistics than
the one we have. Either the Plan for the Promotion of Rail
Freight of the Ministry of Development and the Renfe management system for our Goods and Logistics services follow
this path.
Which are Renfe’s aims for the future?
To grow with profitability criteria and in a sustainable manner by developing an internationalization process in order to
meet the needs of the basic sectors of the domestic industry and to actively collaborate in the environmental sustainability polices of the transportation system.

LOGIS Bages, es una plataforma logística de distribución, situada en el
polígono “Els Plans de la Sala” en el término municipal de Sallent (Barcelona). En una superficie de 8,7 ha, dispone de una nave modulada
de 53.000 m2. LOGIS Empordà, es un centro para logística y distribución y actividades de valor añadido con vocación transfronteriza. Está
localizado en el municipio de El Far d’Empordà (Girona). Tiene una superficie bruta de 72 ha, de las cuales está urbanizada una primera fase
de 21 ha. CIMALSA también gestiona el Truck Parking Centre ubicado
en el término de Castellar del Vallès. Con una superficie rectangular de
15.400 m2, dispone en total de 126 plazas para el estacionamiento de
vehículos de gran tonelaje de hasta 17 metros de longitud. Este centro, totalmente cerrado, dispone de control de accesos y salidas y está
dotado de sistemas avanzados de control de vigilancia y protección
24x7x365.
¿El ferrocarril es una apuesta prioritaria de CIMALSA?
La apuesta prioritaria de CIMALSA es la intermodalidad, que consideramos el único camino para conseguir una logística sostenible y eficiente,
dotando al conjunto de la actividad económica del país de una mayor
competitividad especialmente en el sector industrial donde los costes
logísticos son considerables en relación con el conjunto de costes de
la actividad.
Esta apuesta por la intermodalidad la hacemos sabiendo que la distribución de mercancías por carretera seguirá siendo mayoritaria en los
próximos años, que el transporte ferroviario tiene tasas casi marginales
en el mercado (4%), con infraestructuras obsoletas y en plataformas
que cierran la cadena.
Pero es urgente posicionarse ahora y prever una red intermodal importante, con infraestructuras modernas y pensando en el futuro. El modo
marítimo muestra una fuerza considerable y pensamos que seguirá
siendo así en el futuro, y que el ro-ro y la autopista ferroviaria todavía
ganarán terreno.
¿Cuáles son los planes de futuro más inmediato de CIMALSA?
El desarrollo de las plataformas intermodales que estamos promoviendo en este momento (Empordà, Penedés y Montblanc), dada la importancia de dotar al sector de plataformas intermodales. Todas ellas están
integradas en el eje Mediterráneo de mercancías por ferrocarril que promueve Ferrmed y que creemos que es un corredor muy necesario para
toda Europa, no hay que olvidar que dos de ellas fueron declaradas
como prioritarias por el gobierno central.
También trabajamos en la ampliación del CIM el Camp de Tarragona, en
la promoción de la carga aérea, en la intensificación de la colaboración
público-privada, en la internacionalización de nuestra actividad y en el
perfeccionamiento de nuestro Observatorio Logístico como herramienta para mejorar la eficiencia de nuestro sistema logístico.

¿Podría explicarnos qué es CIMALSA y cuáles son sus principales funciones?
CIMALSA es la empresa pública de la Generalitat de Cataluña encargada de la promoción, el desarrollo y la gestión de infraestructuras y
centrales para el transporte y la logística. Con su actividad, contribuye
a la mejora de la competitividad y la modernización de las empresas del
sector, favoreciendo su integración en el territorio con criterios de accesibilidad y sostenibilidad, con productos específicamente pensados
para ellas, con criterios de calidad y servicios para las empresas y para
sus trabajadores y trabajadoras.
El diseño de sus proyectos al servicio de la sostenibilidad, la integración
paisajística y la responsabilidad social, son sus principales aportaciones al sistema logístico. Asimismo, en coherencia con las directrices
europeas de transporte y con la política de promoción del transporte
de mercancías por ferrocarril, iniciada por la Generalitat de Cataluña,
CIMALSA incorpora la intermodalidad como eje de los nuevos proyectos de futuro.
¿Qué plataformas logísticas forman actualmente parte de la
oferta de CIMALSA?
La red de centros e infraestructuras en funcionamiento de CIMALSA
está formada en la actualidad por seis centros de distribución y almacenaje, por la infraestructura aeroportuaria de Lleida-Alguaire y el primer
Truck Parking Center gestionado por CIMALSA.
Estos centros están localizados estratégicamente en el territorio catalán
y cercanos a los principales nodos de comunicaciones viarias e infraestructuras. El CIM Vallès, es la gran plataforma logística de distribución
del área metropolitana de Barcelona, situada en el municipio de Santa
Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona), ocupa una superficie bruta de 44,2
hectáreas. CIM Lleida, está localizado en la zona industrial de Lleida.
Ocupa una superficie bruta de 42 hectáreas que incluye el Mercado
Central de Lleida. Inició su actividad en el año 2003.
CIM la Selva, dispone de 22,5 ha brutas de superficie que incluyen el
futuro Parque Aeroportuario y Logístico donde se instalarán oficinas,
hotel, equipamientos y servicios. Este centro está ubicado en los términos municipales de Vilobí d’Onyar y Riudellots de la Selva (Girona), justo
al lado del Aeropuerto de Girona-Costa Brava.
La CIM el Camp, se encuentra en los términos municipales de Reus, Tarragona y La Canonja (Tarragona), a 3 km del Aeropuerto de Reus y a 5
km del puerto de Tarragona. Con una superficie bruta de 42,2 ha en su
primer sector, en funcionamiento desde el año 2007, se ampliará en una
segunda fase con 39 ha. Con esta ampliación, este centro se convertirá
en uno de los mayores enclaves logísticos de Cataluña.

Could you talk us about CIMALSA and its main functions?
CIMALSA is a public company of the Government of Catalonia
entrusted with promoting, developing and managing infrastructures and centers for goods transport and logistics. Through its
activity, it contributes to improve competitiveness and modernization of the companies of the sector, favoring their integration
within the territory following accessibility and sustainability criteria, with products specifically thought for them, offering quality
and service standards both to companies and to workers.
The design of its projects at the service of sustainability, landscape integration and social responsibility, are its main contributions
to the logistics sector. Likewise, in coherence with the European
transport directives and the policy of promoting railway goods
transport started by the Government of Catalonia, CIMALSA includes intermodality as the axis of the new future projects.
Which logistics platforms are currently part of CIMALSA’s
offer?
CIMALSA’s network of centres and infrastructures is currently
formed by six distribution and storage sites, by the airport infrastructure of Lleida-Alguaire and by the first Truck Parking
Centre managed by CIMALSA.
These centres are strategically located in Catalan territory and
close to the main infrastructure and road communication nodes.
CIM Vallès is the great logistics distribution platform of
Barcelona’s metropolitan area; it is located in the town of Santa
Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona) and has a gross surface area
of 44.2 hectares.
The CIM Lleida is located in the Lleida industrial area with a
gross surface area of 42 hectares, which includes the Lleida
Central Market. It began its activity in 2003.
CIM la Selva has a gross surface area of 22.5 hectares which
includes the Airport and Logistics Park, where offices, a hotel, equipment and services will be set up. This site is situated
between the towns of Vilobí d’Onyar and Riudellots de la Selva
(Girona), just by the Girona-Costa Brava Airport.
CIM el Camp is located between the municipal areas of Reus,
Tarragona and La Canonja (Tarragona), just 3 km from Reus Airport and 5 km from the Port of Tarragona. With a gross surface
of 42.2 ha on its first phase, functioning since 2007, it will be
extended in a second phase of 39 ha. With this extension, the
site will become one of the largest logistics centres in Catalonia.

¿Qué papel juega Catalunya dentro del panorama logístico Mundial?
Estamos convencidos de que juega un papel importante pero que será
todavía más si se construyen las infraestructuras que faltan.
El hecho de que la mayor parte de mercancías por vía marítima del
mundo circulen por el Mediterráneo entre Asia y Europa nos debe permitir captar una buena parte de esta carga que hoy pasa con destino
a los puertos del norte de Europa y que amarrando en los puertos de
nuestra fachada Mediterránea (Barcelona y Tarragona, pero también
Valencia o Castellón) se ahorrarían entre 3 y 4 días de navegación, tiempo y emisiones de CO2.
A pesar de que los puertos están ejecutando importantes proyectos de
ampliación, si no se les dota de buenas conexiones viarias y ferroviarias
no conseguiremos en tierra la gran capacidad que pueden conseguir
nuestros puertos; aun así creemos que con nuestras infraestructuras
actuales y futuras Cataluña y el conjunto de la fachada Mediterránea están llamados a crecer hasta ser una de las más importantes puertas de
entrada de mercancías del mundo al continente Europeo y, por tanto,
una de las mayores plataformas logísticas del continente.
¿Y dentro del territorio español?
Pienso que en cierto sentido Cataluña ha sido pionera en el desarrollo
logístico en España y creo que puede seguir siendo un territorio estratégico para la actividad logística por su posición geográfica: cruce de
rutas del valle del Ebro con la ruta mediterránea, por sus infraestructuras portuarias, por su red de plataformas logísticas y por su tradición
industrial.
¿Es importante para Cataluña disponer de una feria logística de
la envergadura del SIL?
Es muy importante y se ha vuelto a demostrar este año, no sólo por la
actividad comercial que, en general, ya no se concentra tanto en las
actividades presenciales sino además como punto de encuentro profesional, foro de debate y de intercambio de experiencias.
El SIL además ha conseguido ser realmente un foro mediterráneo de
la logística y ésto debe ser una apuesta estratégica para toda Europa
en relación con los países del Magreb y de África en general que están
creciendo y desarrollando sus economías.
¿Qué valoración hacen de su participación en el SIL 2011?
Muy positiva. A pesar de desarrollarse en un momento de poca actividad y de grandes dificultades para el crecimiento económico, la participación ha sido muy interesante en todos los frentes: institucional con
la firma del Protocolo para el desarrollo de las plataformas intermodales
estratégicas en Cataluña entre el gobierno español y el catalán, en lo
económico por los contactos, y en lo profesional por las excelentes
jornadas técnicas.

vehicles up to 17 metres long. This site, totally closed, has access and exit controls and it is equipped with 24x7x365 monitoring and protection systems.
Is the railway a priority bet for CIMALSA?
The priority bet of CIMALSA is intermodality, since we see it as
the only way to get a sustainable and efficient logistics, providing the rest of the economic activity of the country with greater
competitiveness, particularly on the industrial sector where logistical costs are higher in relation with the overall activity costs.
We make this bet for intermodality aware that road freight transport will keep on being the most used over the next years and
that railway transport has lower marginal rates (4%), with obsolete infrastructures and in platforms which close the chain.
But it is urgent to set positions now and to plan an important
intermodal network, with modern infrastructures and thought for
the future. Maritime mode shows a considerable strength and
everything points it will continue this way in the future. RoRo and
rail-highway will, however, gain ground.
Which are the most immediate future plans of CIMALSA?
The development of the intermodal platforms that we are currently promoting (Empordà, Penedés and Montblanc), seen the
importance of providing the sector with this kind of platforms.
All of them are integrated in the Mediterranean rail freight axis
promoted by Ferrmed, a corridor which we consider very important for Europe, and we should not forget that two of them were
declared as a priority by the central government.
We also work in the extension of CIM el Camp in Tarragona,
in the promotion of air freight, in the enhancement of publicprivate partnership, in the internationalization of our activity and
in the implementation of our Logistics Observatory as a tool for
improving the efficiency of our logistics system.
Which role does Catalonia play within the world logistics
scene?
We are convinced that it plays an important role but it shall be
even more if the missing infrastructures are built.
The fact of having the majority of goods by maritime transport circulating on the Mediterranean between Asia and Europe, should
make us gain part of this freight going to the northern Europe
ports and, furthermore, by mooring at our Mediterranean façade
(Barcelona and Tarragona, but also Valencia or Castellón) there
would make them save between 3 and 4 navigation days, time
and CO2 emissions.
Although ports are executing important extension projects, if
they are not provided with good road and rail connections, we
will not achieve in land the great capacity that our ports can
reach. However, we are sure that with the current and future
infrastructures, Catalonia and the Mediterranean façade are set
to become one of the main good entrance doors from the world
to the European continent and, therefore, one of the biggest
logistics platforms of the said continent.
And within the Spanish territory?
I think that in a sense Catalonia has been pioneer in the Spanish
logistics development and that it can remain being a strategic
spot for the logistics activity thanks to its geographical location:
a crossing between the Ebro valley and the Mediterranean routes, its port infrastructures, its logistics platforms network and
its industrial tradition.
Is it important for Catalonia to have a logistics exhibition
of the size of SIL?
It is very important and it has indeed been showed again this
year, not only for the sales activity which, in general, is no longer
focused only on face-to-face activities, but also as a professional meeting point, a debate and experiences exchange forum.
Furthermore SIL has got to be a proper logistics Mediterranean
forum and this must be a strategic bet for all Europe in relation
with the Maghreb and African countries in general, which are
growing and developing their economies.
What is the assessment of your participation in SIL 2011?
Very positive. In spite of taking place in a moment of low activity
and great constraints for the economic growth, the participation
has been very interesting in all fields: institutional, with the signature of the Protocol for the development of the strategic intermodal platforms for Catalonia signed between the Catalan and
Spanish governments; in the economic field, for the contacts
made, and in the professional one, for the excellent technical
conferences.

El Círculo Logístico es una iniciativa muy útil para poder optimizar el tiempo en el SIL. Todos tenemos un día a día muy
apretado y esta iniciativa te ayuda a organizarte la agenda,
ya que antes de que empiece el Salón ya tienes concertadas
las reuniones con los proveedores que te interesan. Evidentemente no tienes tiempos de espera, ni desplazamientos buscando los
stands porque puedes reunirte en la zona restringida del Círculo que hay
disponible, lo que facilita la reunión. También encuentro muy útil el poder
acceder a todos los Workshops sin acreditarte anteriormente. Realmente
todos son ventajas. Creo que es una iniciativa que marca la diferencia respecto a otros Salones y creo que se debe seguir manteniendo para fidelizar
a los visitantes. Es una idea muy útil y que hace fácil el realizar nuevos contactos en un periodo corto de tiempo.

The Logistics Circle is a useful initiative for optimizing time at SIL.
We all have a very tight daily life and this initiative helps you to
organize your agenda, because you have all the meetings with
the suppliers of your interest closed prior to the opening of the
Exhibition. There are no waiting times nor searches for stands
because you can have the meeting at the private area of the
Circle, which facilitates those meetings. I also find helpful the
fact of not being necessary to previously register yourself for
the Workshops. There is nothing but advantages. I think it is an
initiative which makes a difference with other Exhibitions and I do
believe it should be maintained for retaining visitors’ loyalty. It is
a very useful idea which makes it easy to make new contacts in
a short period of time.

sido enriquecedor ver como también este sector de la salud está cambiando

rentabilidad. Creo que un valor añadido que el SIL aporta al visitante, como
a los que participamos en las conferencias, radica justamente en este foro
abierto para el conocimiento e intercambio de tendencias, experiencias y soluciones que se están desarrollando. Reúne en un espacio de lugar y tiempo
la oferta del sector y da soluciones a las inquietudes que tienen las empresas.

SIL conferences program is the engine of the Exhibition and
enables to invigorate professional seminars and to generate the
flow of ideas as well as to share new trends and perspectives of
the sector. Forums and round tables are an interactive format where speakers exchange their experiences and concerns with professional attendants. In particular, round tables on B2C have allowed
to get to know the main trends of the sector through practical
cases and logistics solutions that are been offered by specialized
companies. Likewise, I was able to share experiences on healthcare sector and it has been very enriching to notice how this sector
is totally changing its hospital logistics processes in favor of its
efficiency and profitability. I think that an added value that SIL adds
to visitors, as well as to the participants on the conferences, lies in
this open forum for knowledge and exchange of trends, experiences and solutions being developed. It gathers together the offer of
the sector and gives solutions for the companies concerns.

El programa de conferencias del SIL ha sido muy completo.
Haciendo hincapié en sectores punteros de nuestra economía,
por lo que respecta al sector salud, las conferencias han sido
de alta calidad, los programas y conferenciantes seleccionados
han desarrollado una jornada de sumo interés para la logística del sector y se ha manifestado el alto grado de profesionalización por
parte de todos los actores. La aportación de nuevos sistemas de gestión y
las experiencias aportadas por varios centros sanitarios dieron pie a un debate que con el contraste de ideas y de nuevas aportaciones del público
asistente, numerosísimo por cierto, añadieron más valor a la 2ª conferencia
Pharma&Health, siendo ya un referente en SIL. Me parece muy acertada la
apuesta del SIL por ser un punto de encuentro anual donde fomentar el conocimiento y el intercambio de experiencias y debemos de mantenerlo, preservarlo y potenciarlo. Es una oportunidad única que los “logísticos” tenemos
para ampliar información tanto de empresas de nuestro país como de los
países invitados en el SIL. El Círculo Logístico es otro espacio donde fluye el
conocimiento entre todos los actores participantes en los encuentros.

SIL conferences program has been an extremely comprehensive
one. Emphasizing leading sectors of our economy, with regards
to the health sector, conferences have been of a high quality, programs and speakers have developed a conference of much interest for the logistics sector and the high professionalization level
of all actors has become evident. The contribution of experiences
and new management systems provided by several health centres opened a debate which, with the exchange of ideas and experiences submitted by the audience, very numerous by the way,
added more value to the 2nd Pharma & Health conference which
has become a referent in SIL. I think it is very smart the bet of SIL
for turning into an annual meeting for fomenting knowledge and
exchanging experiences and we should maintain, preserve and
foster it. It is a unique opportunity for us ‘logistics’ to broaden
information of domestic companies as well as of guest countries
of SIL. The Logistics Circle is another space where knowledge
between all actors that participate in the meetings can flow.
For LYL Ingeniería, SIL is a project alive through the year. There is a
previous, during and post work which requires full dedication. We
have met most of our expectations and made contact with habitual
and prospect clients. Now the event is finished, we must attend all
requests received with all convenient dispatch. We hope to comply
with the rest of our objectives and to offer the best service possible.
SIL is a meeting point for professionals of the sector which enables
us to exchange concerns, to get to know new requirements and to
look for solutions to the market needs.

El SIL es uno de los encuentros logísticos más importantes de
Europa donde confluyen la gran mayoría de empresas de manutención y logística y, como visitantes, vienen muchos directivos de grandes empresas buscado soluciones y con capacidad de decisión en departamentos de logística, operaciones y
compras. El concepto SIL Tech ha sido otra gran razón para asistir. Ha habido
mucho interés en las nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al ámbito logístico debido
a que la simplificación de procesos es clave para este mundo competitivo.
El SIL Tech ha sido perfecto para mostrar nuestras soluciones y aplicaciones
enfocadas a la logística y manutención. Sinceramente, estamos muy contentos. Hemos podido comprobar el interés que tienen nuestras soluciones de
trazabilidad y RFID en el mercado. Destacaría que el SIL se ha reinventado

SIL is one of the main important logistics meetings in Europe where
the majority of material handling and logistics companies concur. As
of visitors, many decision-taker managers in logistics, operations
and purchase departments from big companies attend searching
for solutions. The SIL Tech concept has been another main reason
for coming. There has been a lot of interest in new technologies for
logistics because the simplification process is a key factor in this
competitive world. SIL Tech has been the perfect showcase for new
solutions and applications for logistics and material handling. We
are very pleased, honestly. We have been able to notice the interest
aroused by our Traceability and RFID solutions in the market. I would
highlight that SIL has reinvented itself year after year by adapting
to the current economic moment. The way of organizing the event,
the distribution of exhibitors and the amount of actions done by the
Exhibition (events, presentations, interviews…) have been able to
attract a great number of visitors and with interest.

El Círculo Logístico me parece muy interesante pues
permite mantener contacto tanto con proveedores habituales pero que, generalmente, hace tiempo que no se mantiene
un contacto permanente así como con los no habituales y con los
cuales siempre puede haber posibilidades de negocio que durante
nuestro día a día no te paras a plantear pero que, en una conversación distendida y en buen ambiente, pueden aflorar. Es el primer año
que participo activamente y me he sentido muy satisfecho. Tuve que
plantear unos cambios súbitos en la agenda y fui atendido de manera
excelente por el personal del Círculo Logístico del SIL.

In some moments SIL aisles were fully packed.
I think the Logistics Circle is very interesting because you can have
contact either with your habitual suppliers, which whom you do not
normally maintain such a permanent contact, and with non-habitual
ones, which whom there may exist business possibilities that you
do not take care of them in your daily routine but that can appear in
a friendly conversation in a good atmosphere. This is the first year
that I actively participate in it and I am very satisfied. I had to make
several last-minute changes on my agenda but I was excellently
assisted by the SIL Logistics Circle team.

El programa de conferencias es una muy conveniente pausa
para la reflexión dentro de un entorno amigable y bien estructurado. No sólo sirve para el intercambio de pareceres y experiencias sino también para la propia reflexión sobre el camino
que está tomando la logística en cada momento. Efectivamente,
contar con un foro que, al mismo tiempo, haga las veces de un punto de encuentro entre los profesionales de la logística es de un gran valor para todos
nosotros, por lo rápido que evoluciona el sector y la necesidad de sondearlo de
modo constante y exhaustivo. Del SIL 2011 destaco sobre todo la diversidad
de expositores y ponentes y lo bien estructuradas que están las jornadas.

Conferences program is a very convenient pause for reflection
within a well-structured friendly environment. It serves not only for
the exchange of opinions but for the own reflection on the path the

SIL has been an enormously productive forum. The attendance to
conferences has been very important and we think that a critical
mass favorable to the participation through this kind of communication formats is being generated progressively. Under my point
of view, round tables and forums work nowadays perfectly well
and our main conclusion is that any organization should bet for

Círculo Logístico SIL 2011
SIL 2011 Logistics Circle
Los directores y responsables de logística volvieron a
ser los máximos protagonistas del SIL 2011. Por este
motivo, el SIL volvió a apostar por el Círculo Logístico,
donde los directores de logística pudieron realizar networking y contactos, intercambiar opiniones y tener entrevistas privadas con aquellas empresas que desearon.
En el Círculo Logístico tuvieron lugar más de 600 reuniones privadas entre empresas participantes en el SIL y
miembros del Círculo Logístico. El Círculo Logístico del
SIL 2011 contó con la participación de 653 directores de
logística de destacadas empresas de sectores tan diversos como la alimentación y gran consumo, automoción,
metalurgia y siderugia, farmacéutico y sanitario, químico o textil.
Again, logistics directors and managers were the
main characters of SIL 2011. The event wanted to bet
once more for the Logistics Circle, a place where logistics directors could made networking and had private business meetings with companies they were interested to. The space devoted to the Logistics Circle
held more than 600 direct business meetings between
logistics directors and SIL participating companies.
The SIL 2011 Logistics Circle counted with the participation of 653 logistics directors from well-known
companies from different sectors such as food and
mass market, automotive, metallurgy and iron and

Exhibition Village
El Exhibition Village, organizado por el SIL y la
Fundación ICIL, volvió a ser el espacio de demostración en tiempo real, en el que se presentaron diferentes sistemas de gestión de
la información asociados a un flujo logístico.
Estos procesos fueron desde la recepción de
un producto hasta la entrega final en casa de
un cliente bajo el concepto de comercio electrónico, pasando por diferentes sistemas de
preparación de pedidos, gestión y verificación asociándolos a sistemas de picking por
voz, put-to-light, y sistemas de cubicación
junto con reposiciones por tags en kanban.
The Exhibition Village, organized by SIL
and Fundación ICIL, was once again the
space of real-time demonstrations, in
which different information management
systems related to logistics flows where
displayed. These processes comprised
from reception of a product to final delivery to the customer under different concepts such as electronic commerce, different picking, management, and testing
systems linked to voice-picking, put-tolight, and cubing systems together with
kanban tag replacement systems.

La 9ª edición del Forum Mediterráneo de Logística y Transporte volvió a consolidarse
como la plataforma anual del sector y un referente de debate sobre los temas de interés
y las nuevas políticas del sector de la logística y el transporte en el Mediterráneo. Dentro
del marco del 9º Forum Mediterráneo de Logística y Transporte tuvo lugar la 4ª Cumbre
Mediterránea de Puertos.

El SIL 2011 contó con el “mayor programa de
conferencias del sector”, según palabras de
Enrique Lacalle, presidente del comité organizador del Salón. Con un total de 16 jornadas técnicas sobre todos los ámbitos de la
logística y del transporte, el SIL volvió a ser
el salón de la logística total. 3.210 profesionales asistieron a las distintas conferencias
que tuvieron lugar dentro del Salón.
SIL 2011 had the “widest conferences program of the sector”, according to Enrique
Lacalle, President of the Organizing Committee. With16 technical conferences on
all aspects of logistics, SIL became again
a global logistics exhibition. 3,210 professionals attended the different conferences
of SIL 2011 in which 110 national and international well-known speakers participated.
El programa de conferencias del SIL 2011 contó con 110 ponentes de reconocido prestigio nacional e internacional. Las
salas que acogieron las distintas jornadas registraron llenos de
asistentes que pudieron actualizar contenidos e intercambiar
ideas y experiencias. El SIL e-commerce y el SIL Chemical,
dedicados al comercio electrónico y al sector químico respectivamente, fueron las novedades de este año.
The SIL 2011 conferences program conted with 110 national and international well-known espeakers. The rooms were
always full and those attending the conferences could update contents and exchange ideas and experiences. SIL ecommerce and SIL Chemical, devoted to the electronic commerce and to the chemical sector respectively, were the new
