I am proud to say this year was a very successful year at the Sherwood Park & District Chamber of
Commerce and I believe our organization has reached new levels of achievement and success. I want
to thank the Board of Directors for their generous support and participation in all the chamber activities
that we participated in throughout the year. I would also like to thank the staff of the Chamber of
Commerce; Kara, Jamie, Caroline, Rica, Miranda, Cheryl and our Executive Director, Todd Banks. The
board and staff made my year a pleasure to be president and everyone contributed to make our
organization stronger!

Geoff Matheson
2014-15 Chamber President
With our membership reaching 1215 strong this spring, we are arguably the 3rd largest chamber in the
province (provincial numbers are released on December 31st). Having such a strong membership
allows us to effectively advocate to all levels of government on behalf of the business community.
Municipally, we discussed many issues with administration and council. Concerns with tax increases
for commercial tax payers were discussed which also saw Todd Banks, our Executive Director
participate on the Municipal Finance Committee. We regularly worked with administration and council
for zoning and development issues that arose here in the county. Provincially, we met with many
Ministers and MLAs to voice our concerns with topics such as the construction schedule for the
Anthony Henday, the progress on the Hospital, a new Courthouse, and expressed our concerns
regarding changes to the Minimum Wage increases and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)
This year we renewed our focus to support our local businesses. To do this we launched a new “Shop Local, Shop Sherwood Park”
Campaign. As a local business person, this was a direction I wanted to pursue. I believe our awareness campaign was successful and I
am delighted to hear that our incoming President will continue with the program next year.
The Great Canadian Trade Fair and Sale is our largest annual event. 2015 was a huge success with 344 exhibitor booths and 16,936
visitors who saw what our business community had to offer for goods and services in the community. We would like to take this time to
thank Strathcona County and our sponsors for their support to help ensure the Great Canadian Trade Fair & Sale was successful.
This past October, we hosted the 37th Annual Business Awards and celebrated business success here in Strathcona County. It was my
distinct pleasure to recognize Jacqueline Jacek, owner of Jacek Chocolate Couture as “Business of the Year”. Congratulations to all
the nominees and please read further into this newsletter to see all the recipients of the 2014 Business Awards.
When we surveyed you, our membership last May before I became President, one of your top priorities for the Chamber was to have
good networking opportunities. I feel we improved upon this with events such as our sold out Curling Funspiel and Golf Tournament. As
well, our three scheduled business meetings; breakfast networking meetings, monthly luncheons and the after hours business mixers
all saw an increase in attendance. Thank You!
It was our privilege to have such an extensive and impressive list of candidates for this year’s Board elections. This year, we are again
so very fortunate to have a strong Board for the coming year. We had 9 candidates running for 5 open positions this year and hope
those who ran and were not elected will choose to run again next year.
The backbone of the Chamber is the tremendous group of member volunteers that work countless hours behind the scenes to make
Chamber events and programs successful. Your participation helps to promote your company or organization but also contributes
immensely to the local community. Thank you for all of your hard work, wisdom and dedication to our community!

2100 Premier Way, Sherwood Park
I also want to extend a thank you to all the elected officials Federally, Provincially and Municipally for all that you do to support the
Chamber. Our Mission Statement is: “Improving the Economical, Industrial and Civic Life of the Community through the Development
and Promotion of Free Enterprise”. We as a chamber would not be as successful as we are in our mission without the great working
relationship that we have with all levels of government!
It has been a tremendous opportunity and a great privilege to lead the Chamber in the past year. In closing, I would like to say thank
you to the membership for your belief and support for myself and the Board over the past year. I know Jeff Lorenz and his Board will do
a great job representing you, the membership over the next year.
Please continue to read through this “Chamber Year in Review” paper for more of the great programs, services and events that your
Chamber provides for its membership and this great community!

2015 Great Canadian Trade Fair & Sale
The Sherwood Park and District Chamber of Commerce organized this community event on April 10-12. This year’s show, which
was the 32nd annual event delivered an exciting array of exhibits and attractions which were enjoyed by people of all ages and
interests alike. The Chamber’s mission is to provide Chamber Members with a top class venue to showcase their products and
services and share with attendees what businesses in our community have to offer.
This year’s Trade Fair & Sale was a huge success with an attendance of 16,936 people! The Sherwood Park & District Chamber
of Commerce had the assistance of 250 volunteers to make this event the success that it was. Some of the groups that were
involved were ATB Financial, the Chamber Breakfast Networking Group, as well as other valued Chamber members.
Thank you volunteers… we could not have the Trade Fair without you!
There was no shortage of fun for those who attended as they were treated to a variety of exhibits from local businesses around
Strathcona County and national businesses from Halifax to Vancouver. To add to the “shopping experience”, there were
Wade Cummings attractions for visitors of all ages including the new Family
Trade Fair Chair
Fun Zone and for those who wanted to take a break from
visiting the 344 booths, one could stop at our Taste of
Strathcona where local restaurants showcased a variety of menu items to mix and
match.
This was the ninth year for our Home Renovation and Garden Centre, which
consisted of exhibits from landscapers, home building and renovation suppliers,
roofers, window and door suppliers, outdoor furniture and much more. Due to
popular demand, the Treasure Chest was also back again this year. There were over
1600 prizes given away this year and all prizes were graciously donated by our local
business community. This year, grand prizes consisted of a $1,000 of groceries from
Sobeys, a iPad from Matheson Insurance and Sherwood Park Registries, as well as a
$550 Men’s Bulova watch donated by Paris Jewellers.
Strathcona County is a huge partner in this event and it is greatly appreciated.
Strathcona County Transit provided free bus shuttle service for the weekend,
Emergency Services provided excellent assistance to ensure a safe event was
organized, and Economic Development helped promote the event. We would also like
to thank Recreation Parks and Culture for renting us the venue. Millennium Place is a
fantastic facility and an event this size would not be possible without their wonderful
facility and its staff…Thank You!
We thank all those who attended, volunteered and took part in our Trade Fair & Sale
and look forward to seeing you next year, April 8, 9 &10!

Sherwood Park Chamber Canada Day Parade
Michael Roppelt
Parade Chair
The 2015 Canada Day Parade was a great success! Thousands of smiling
faces lined the parade route last Wednesday morning to watch over
90 entries go by.
The parade started at 10:00 am at the Sherwood Park Mall. It went
around Centre in the Park and County Hall, making its way down Granada
Boulevard, up Georgian Way and then ending at the north end of the
Sherwood Park Mall.
On behalf of the Sherwood Park & District Chamber of Commerce, we would like to thank all of
our sponsors, volunteers, participants, and our Honorary Parade Marshal, Heather Nedohin.
Without all of you, the Parade would not be possible!
