ayslake Ministries welcomes you to a special “On Holiday With God” tour. Pella, Iowa
is our springtime destination. You will visit this charming village during the Tulip Time
celebration when the tulips are blooming and the wooden shoes are klomping! The tour is
designed to combine a retreat experience, including scripture, prayer, music and reflection with the joy
of travel. Each day has a theme with the idea of drawing closer to God with each destination we visit.
Mayslake Affiliate Member Suzette Horyza will be the retreat/tour director. We hope you can join us on this
wonderful retreat/tour.
Day One | Theme: Simplicity
s Lunch at the German influenced Ronneburg Restaurant,
Amana, IA.
s Take a guided tour of the Amana Colonies, a cluster of
seven authentic German villages founded as a
religious commune in the mid-1800s. View the
historic, red brick buildings along the rolling
countryside. Stops will be made at the High Amana
Church, Old General Store and Broom & Basket Shop
and more. Free time for shopping.
s Dinner at Tea Cups & Tiaras, Des Moines, IA.
s Check in to Country Inn & Suites, Des Moines for 2 nights.
Day Two | Theme: Beauty
s Full breakfast at hotel.
s Take a guided tour of Dutch Pella, Iowa. Experience
life as it was in the Netherlands - everything about Pella
is Dutch! See the Scholte House and gardens that was
home to the founder of Pella, the Klokkenspel, a 147-bell
carillon, the Molengracht mill canal, the Dutch architecture
of downtown Pella - a replica of a picturesque village in
the Netherlands - the Tulip Toren & the Vermeer Windmill.
s Tour the Pella Historical Village Complex featuring 24
buildings surrounded by beautiful tulip gardens. Costumed
interpreters will demonstrate yoke-carving, pottery-making,
Dutch cookie-making and wooden shoe manufacturing.
s Free time for lunch & shopping in Pella - escpecially the
Dutch bakeries!
s Celebrate Tulip Time in Pella beginning with the
Grandstand Show followed by the Volks Parade
featuring Dutch floats & bands. The grandstand show
includes street & stage entertainment, Dutch Dancers,
Street Scrubbers & more.
s Dinner in Des Moines.

s Visit the artisans of Isabel Bloom on a tour of their Harborview Production Studio in Davenport, IA, near
the banks of the Mississippi River.You’ll have behind-the-scenes access to every step in the making of each
Isabel Bloom sculpture which maintains the legacy of the artist. See some of her original art and photos and
learn how her innovations still influence what is created today. There is also an opportunity to purchase
exclusive sculptures available only to tour guests. s All aboard the Celebration Belle for a narrated lunch cruise on the Mississippi River. See and hear about the
historical sights of the Quad City Area. Pass the Rock Island Arsenal located on a 946 acre island and pass
through Lock and Dam # 15, the largest roller dam in the world. The captain will entertain you with history
and facts as you enjoy a delicious lunch.
