VOLUNTEERS
Tatamagouche Elementary School is very fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers.
As per School Board policy, all volunteers must complete our Volunteer Package, including a Criminal Records Check, before they can begin volunteering at any schools within the Chignecto-Central Regional
School Board.
If you are interested in volunteering but have not received and completed the Volunteer Package, please
contact the office to receive one.
The virtues we are focusing on this month are:
Unity (Oct. 29 - Nov. 2): Unity helps people work and live together peacefully. When you practice unity
you feel connected to everyone and everything. Unity brings harmony, like the music made by the
different instruments in an orchestra. Unity comes when we value each person.
Peacefulness (Nov. 5 - 9): Peacefulness is an inner sense of calm. It comes especially in quiet moments of reflection or gratitude. Peacefulness is a way of approaching conflict, with others so that no
one is made wrong. It is being fair to yourself and others.
Honour (Nov. 13 - 16): Honour is living with a sense of respect for what you believe is right. It is living
by the virtues, showing great respect for yourself, other people, and the rules you live by. When you
are honourable you don’t have to feel ashamed of who you are or what you are doing. You are worthy of respect. You set a good example.
Thankfulness (Nov. 19 - 23): Thankfulness is being grateful for what you have. It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving, and being. It is appreciating the little things which happen around you every
day. It is having a sense of wonder about the beauty of this world. It is being aware of the gifts in your
life.
Compassion (Nov. 26 - 30): Compassion is having kind feelings toward someone who is hurt or troubled. It is caring deeply and wanting to help, even if you don’t know them. It is being kind and forgiving to someone who has hurt you.

Early School Closure
As you know our winter weather can change quickly and unexpectedly. Unfortunately there are times
when school is closed part way through the day to help ensure the safe travel for our students. Early closure can also happen in the event of a power outage or other system malfunction at school. Early school
closures will be announced on Cat Country 99.5 & Big Dog 100.9 & ECFM 94.1. We will also attempt to
post the closure on our Facebook page as soon as we have confirmation from the school board that
school is closing. On early closure days the office becomes a hectic place. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to ensure that every child goes home safely.
In anticipation of the winter months, we have our Early School Closure plan in place. Each student’s parents were asked to complete and return a form indicating what their child was to do in case of early
school closure. If you have indicated on the form that you require a phone call, a staff member will attempt to call you. If we are unable to reach you or any of the alternate people listed, your child will remain at school until you make arrangements to pick them up.
On days where the forecast suggests possible stormy weather and there is increased likelihood of an
early closure, we appreciate parents taking the time to clearly indicate in your child’s agenda any alternate plan that should take place in case of early closure. This helps reduce the number of calls staff
must make. If you have indicated that a phone call is not necessary, your child will follow the plan as per
your completed form.
If your circumstances change (new childcare provider, for example) or if your contact information
changes, please contact the school office so that we can update our records.
