of March 2015, the airport features flights to 228 destinations in 66 countries. The airport is located 28.5 Km (17.7 mi) northeast of Munich
near the old city of Freising and is named in memory of the former Bavarian Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss. It features two passenger
terminals with an additional midfield terminal and two runways as well as extensive cargo and maintenance facilities and is fully equipped to
handle wide-body aircraft including the Airbus A380.
The airport is connected to the city by Munich suburban railway (S-Bahn) lines S1 and S8. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes to the
Marienplatz station in the city centre. S1 runs from the airport through the northwestern suburbs and reaches the city centre from the west
(Hauptbahnhof – Marienplatz – München Ost), while S8 comes in from the eastern suburbs passing the stations from the opposite direction.
The S-Bahn from the airport to the city runs approx. 20 hours a day with a short break between 01:30 and 04:00.
Furthermore, a scheduled regional bus service (MVV line 635) connects the airport within 20 minutes to the Freising railway station,
providing access to regional trains towards Munich as well as to Nuremberg, Regensburg and Prague.

ABOUT MUNICH
About Munich
Munich is the capital of Bavaria, and is the third largest city in Germany.
In the Altstadt (historical center) there are beautiful old churches and
squares. The city boasts a vibrant cultural scene, with many theaters,
museums and the famous Munich Opera House. On a sunny day there
are people sitting outside in the many well-kept public parks, such as the
English Gardens or the Olympiapark. In addition to having several worldclass museums, it can lay claim to having the richest cultural,
gastronomic and retail life in southern Germany, including the famous
Hofbräuhaus and other beer halls. Munich’s surroundings include the
charming lakes of Starnberg and Chiemsee as well as the famous
Neuschwanstein Castle, and Germany’s highest summit mountain, the
Zugspitze.
