The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are incredibly proud to be a vital community member of the region. Giving back
is such an integral part of the Sound Tigers culture. We were thrilled to assist groups in need and have the
opportunity to meet thousands of wonderful supporters throughout the hockey season.
Everywhere we have gone, the reception has been tremendous. It is an honor and a privilege to represent this
great state and to see all the amazing people within it. So many of the groups we visited were inspirational to
our players, coaches and front office staff.
This community report serves as a window into the world of the Sound Tigers and the events held at local
schools, hospitals and other organizations.
None of this would be possible without our extraordinary fans. Thank you for supporting us for the past 14
years. We look forward to giving back even more next year.

HOLIDAY HOSPITAL VISITS
4 I SOUND TIGERS COMMUNITY IN REVIEW
HOLIDAY HOSPITAL VISITS & TEDDY BEAR TOSS
The annual Teddy Bear Toss has become a long-standing tradition for the team and hockey in general. On Sunday,
December 14, Brett Gallant’s first-period goal launched close to 1,000 teddy bears onto the ice. Two days later, all
Sound Tigers players and coaches visited area hospitals to deliver them to kids spending their holiday in the hospital.
The joy we brought to the patients at Norwalk, Bridgeport and Griffin
Hospitals, just to name a few, provided all of us a greater appreciation
for the holiday season.
Howard Saffan, President
It’s a good thing for the team when
we can help out and give back to the
community. There are less fortunate
people than us at this time of the year
and for us to be able to go in and just put
a smile on someone’s face, it hopefully
goes a long way for them, especially
during the holiday season.

SOUND TIGERS AT SCHOOL
SCHOOL VISITS
The Sound Tigers created a new initiative during the 2014-15 season,
with players visiting schools to read to classrooms and assemblies each
week throughout the year. A minimum of two players had the privilege
of reading to multiple groups of students and answer any students’
questions. Some schools also had the chance to play ball hockey with
the Sound Tigers to promote physical activity for the kids.
SOUND TIGERS SUMMER READING PROGRAM
For the Summer Reading Program, students received a form in school to
fill out over the summer and return in the fall. Reading 10 books earned
the student a free ticket to opening night. The team also provided a
winter reading program with tickets for a game later in the season.
It was a tremendous experience. They were
so interactive with our students when they
read aloud and with floor hockey, which
was a hit.

GAME DAY EVENTS
COOL FUN 101 & SPRING FUN 102
An enduring tradition with the Sound Tigers has been the school day games at 11:00 a.m. Twice during the season, the
Sound Tigers host a morning game for local school kids – Cool Fun 101 in the Fall and Spring Fun 102 in the Spring. For
the Cool Fun 101 game on November 5, People’s United Bank graciously provided 3,000 tickets to twelve (12) schools
throughout the City of Bridgeport. Younger students received educational booklets, while high school students attended
a sports business seminar and college fair.
MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
On Sunday, November 9, the Sound Tigers honored local heroes of the United States military with their Military Appreciation
Day. Prior to the game, several players from the team visited a local VFW to distribute tickets to veterans. 1st District
Commander Dick Kennedy dropped the ceremonial puck and all active military and veterans in the crowd were recognized
during the game.
CANCER AWARENESS DAY
With the help and support of Norwalk Hospital, the Sound Tigers held Cancer Awareness Day on Sunday,
January 18. The first 1,000 fans in attendance received lavender t-shirts to promote cancer awareness, while
the team held a silent auction of Sound Tigers and Islanders memorabilia, with all proceeds donated to the
Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.
8 I SOUND TIGERS COMMUNITY IN REVIEW
OBEY THE ORANGE NIGHT
The Sound Tigers held Obey the Orange Night on November 29 to
raise awareness towards distracted driving and roadway safety.
The team donated over $5,000 to the American Traffic Safety
Services Association.
FAITH NIGHT
January 17 served as a chance for local church groups and others
to promote their faith. The night featured a pre-game concert by
English Chapel Youth and Young Adult Choir in the atrium. Kevin
Monroe and Devotion performed during both intermissions while
the Brown Family sang America the Beautiful.
FIRST RESPONDERS/FAN APPRECIATION DAY
For the final game of the regular season, the Sound Tigers
recognized Police, Fire, EMS and Military personnel. The team
hosted a twelve (12)-team tournament benefitting the Kevin
L. Bell Memorial Fun, Hope for Heroes and the Human Services
Council-Children’s Charities. Fans were also recognized for their
season-long support of the team, with giveaways and a post-game
autograph session on the ice.
IN-GAME FUNDRAISING
GROUP OF THE GAME
The group of the game is selected at random from the dozens of groups in attendance at each game. During the 2014-15
season, each member of the group received free bowling passes from AMF Lanes in Milford.
NATIONAL ANTHEM, GOD BLESS AMERICA AND AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
Before each Sound Tigers game, a local school or choir is selected to perform the National Anthem. In addition to the
Star Spangled Banner before puck drop, elementary schools sing God Bless America and America the Beautiful during
the intermissions.
GOALS FOR GROCERIES
The Sound Tigers teamed up with ShopRite to create their “Goals for Groceries” program, where fans who brought
ten (10) or more canned goods to any Sunday Sound Tigers game received a ticket for a future game. As part of the
partnernship, ShopRite also donated to the Partners in Caring program for every home goal. By the end of the season,
over 2,000 pounds of food was donated to Bridgeport Veterans Affairs.
JERSEY AUCTIONS
On Saturday, March 14, the Sound Tigers wore St. Patrick’s Day themed jerseys to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day. The
jerseys were auctioned off after the game and proceeds went to the American Traffic Safety Services Association.
50/50 RAFFLE, CHUCK-A-PUCK AND JERSEY RAFFLE
The 50/50 Raffle, Jersey Raffle and Chuck-A-Puck intermission
contest are conducted at every home game. For the Chuck-A-Puck
contest, foam pucks are sold, which fans later throw at a Tire Shak
tire at center ice during the intermission or after games. Chuck-APuck and Jersey Raffle proceeds all benefit a pre-determined group
in attendance, while 50% of the 50/50 raffle goes to a group and
the other 50% goes to a lucky fan in attendance.
SCOREBOARD MESSAGES
This is for fans who are interested in sending a message to
someone special they care about. Fans had the opportunity to send
birthday, anniversary and other special messages to their family
and friends during games. Their special messages were then
featured on the center ice scoreboard. All groups in attendance
were also acknowledged on the jumbotron.

Watertown Youth Hockey loves the family
atmosphere at the games and appreciates the
generosity of the front office. Our WYH night at
Harbor Yard for our learn to play, learn to skate and
mites is one of our favorite events of the year!
Larry Erickson, Watertown Youth Hockey
OUTDOOR SKATE WITH THE KIDS
The Sound Tigers skated at several outdoor rinks during the 2014-15 season. Aaron Ness, Scott Mayfield
and Justin Courtnall skated with the Southern CT Storm Special Hockey Team back on February 4 at the
Westport P.A.L. Rink. The players ran drills and signed autographs after the session for all members
of the team. On February 10, Ryan Pulock, Adam Pelech and Jesse Graham skated at the New Canaan
Winter Club with youth hockey players in a once-in-a-lifetime practice. The youngsters had the chance
to meet the players afterwards and get autographs from the trio and Storm.
I think it’s always nice when you become a pro hockey player that
you’re able to give back to the community. It’s obviously a really
great thing to be able to come out, play with these kids and put
a smile on their face. It makes you feel like you’re helping these
kids have fun playing the game of hockey.
For the past nine years, the New Canaan Winter Club has
partnered with the Sound Tigers’ organization to help advance
the sport of hockey in our local area. The Sound Tigers have
been terrific to work with and have proven each season that
they value their relationship with us. We are extremely grateful
for the smiles that their management, staff, and players always
garner whenever we get a chance to interact with them. We
love the Sound Tigers and their passionate dedication to our
program.

5K TIGER DASH
T
he Sound Tigers and the CT Challenge teamed up for the inaugural 5K Tiger Dash, a 5K run or one-mile walk
aimed to empower cancer survivors. With an outpouring of corporate support, the dash saw nearly three-hundred
(300) participants on Sunday, December 7 and raised a total of $24,735. The Sound Tigers are proud to partner
with the CT Challenge and plan to enhance their annual fundraiser to empower cancer survivors.
We are very grateful to the Sound Tigers for coming out in support of cancer
survivors with such a great event. It is a strong statement of their commitment
to this exploding demographic. The Tiger Dash and the game are a great fit with
our mission to celebrate cancer survivors and inspire them to reclaim their lives
after cancer through motivational exercise, nutrition and community-building
support programs.
Jeff Keith, CT Challenge Co-Founder,
President and Cancer Survivor
We are very proud to partner with the
CT Challenge for our 5K Tiger Dash.
They have done so much for our region
and for cancer survivors throughout
the state. It was a no-brainer to team
up with them for this great event. We
intend to sponsor the 5K Tiger Dash
annually.
