A Note From Mrs Van Dyk’s Desk
As we come to the end of the term I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all our Junior School Teachers for all that they have done this term.
It has been a very busy term and each one of them has worked with dedication
and care, ensuring that our girls achieve their potential.
I appreciate each one of them and hope they will have a well deserved rest
during the holidays.

Tribute to Ms de Rijk
Ms de Rijk joined St Dominic’s in January 2013 as a Grade 4 Class Teacher. Her enthusiasm and dedication was
evident from the start!
Ms de Rijk taught her class with professionalism and understanding. She always had the children's best
interest at heart and she cared for each child in her class. She had a good rapport with her parents keeping
them informed when the need arose. Her classroom was always well organised, neat and welcoming.
Ms de Rijk involved herself fully in the life of the school. She attended school functions regularly, She
coached swimming and netball. She spent many hours beside the pool and the netball courts. She was always
willing to go the “extra mile”.
Ms de Rijk’s sense of responsibility and dedication will be missed at St Dominic’s. We thank her for the 2
years that she spent at St Dominic’s with us.
We pray that God will grant her good health and happiness in the future.

St Dunstan’s Easter Festival 24 March
The U13 netball girls played at the St Dunstan’s Easter Festival on Thursday 24 March. It was the 1st time
that they have included Primary School sport at this festival and it was definitely enjoyed by all. We have
not started our netball season yet, so our girls had a challenge of competing against teams who have already
been practising. Our girls stood their ground and the results were as follows: we lost our 1st game to
Cornwall Hill, won our second game against Rynfield and then lost our last game by the skin of our teeth
against St Dunstan’s. Well done girls! Thank you to Coach Nel for umpiring all the games and for joining us
on the day. Thank you to Mrs Van Dyk, Mrs Bradbury, Miss Venter and all the parents who came along to
support.
Chatterbox
Twelve girls, from Grade 4 to 7, represented St Dominic’s at a Chatterbox evening held on the 30th of
March at CBC. Although there were lots of nerves at the beginning of the evening, the girls presented
beautiful speeches. The girls enjoyed listening to their peers from St Columba’s, CBC, and Woodlands and
impressed the audience with their confidence. Thank you for all your hard work and preparation, you made
us all very proud!

On Sunday 3rd April, at St Dominic’s Catholic Church, 25 Grade 4 girls, dressed beautifully in white, together with a group of CBC boys, received the sacrament of First Holy Communion for the first time.
These girls had been preparing for this moment since last year and were very excited that the day had
finally arrived. Proud parents, family members and friends filled the church to witness this most special
occasion.
We are grateful to these girls’ RE teachers and to Deacon Greg for preparing them so well over the past
two years. We congratulate them on this important milestone in their spiritual journey and pray that they
continue to feel God’s presence in their lives.
