The Eagle In a caring environment, we will achieve our full potential. From the Executive Teacher 1 July 2016 Dear parents and carers As the end of this term draws to a close, I wish to congratulate our Evatt students for their hard work and participation in all areas of learning and extra-curricular activities this semester. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first semester here at Evatt and I thank the staff, students and community for making me feel welcome. Nationally Consistent Collection of Data Monday 18 July FIRST DAY OF TERM 3 Canteen Closed School Banking Tuesday 19 July Canteen Closed Wednesday 20 July Canteen Closed Thursday 21 July Canteen Open Breakfast Club: 8.30-9.00am During the last two years, the implementation of a Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability has provided 22 July information about students with disability in a constant, reliable and Friday Canteen Open systematic way. The information from this data aims to strengthen existing Assembly: 2.15pm approaches to supporting students with disability. The Australian Government and all state and territory governments have agreed to this new approach to collect data annually about students with disability, which ….. don’t forget to check the Back Page draws on the broad definition of disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The new approach is based on the professional judgement of teachers about their students with disability and the level of reasonable adjustment they are provided with to access and participate in education on the same basis as other students. Involvement in the national data collection assists schools to: • • • • Gain a greater understanding of their student population and how students can be best supported Formally and consistently recognise the support and adjustments provided to students with disability Develop the professional judgement of school teams in making educational adjustments for students with disability rather than relying on a medical or clinical diagnosis alone Review their learning and support systems and continually improve the educational outcomes for students with disability. The next data collection is scheduled for August 2016. A parent consent letter will be sent home early next term with the students involved in this data collection. If parents have any questions and or concerns about this process please contact me through the front office. Best wishes for a restful and safe holiday break. They made her feel so welcome and helped her settle into Australian life. Rachael and Shiori became very close and loved practising their origami skills together. The whole family also enjoyed playing video games together and many laughs were had over these battles. Shiori has now moved to the lovely Sparks family and is settling in very well. Josh was very proud to show off his pet snake as the first thing he showed her! Thank you very much to both families for opening your homes to Evatt’s first Japanese teaching Assistant. Arigatou gozaimasu! ACT SPORTING EVENTS Congratulations to Ella (3/4EM) and Harry (1/2KF) for their outstanding efforts at the recent ACT swimming carnival. Both students completed their events exceptionally well, Harry placing 6th in the 50fr and Ella 10th and 13th the 100fr and 0fr respectively. We would like to congratulate all of our students who represented the school at the ACT level this Semester. All students have been amazing ambassadors for our school; you have made your classmates, families and (most importantly) yourselves very proud. Congratulations; Harry, Ella, Josh, Ben and Matthew FLYING HIGHS Jessica – Proud Pandas: Jess, this term you have started to demonstrate how efficiently you can work. I was ecstatic when you completed your maths test in 15 minutes and allowed enough time to check your work. I admire your willingness and determination to always complete tasks to the best of your abilities. But most of all I love having your positive, caring and enthusiastic personality in the classroom. Keep up the amazing work. Miss Thomas Corrina – Proud Pandas: Corrina, this term I have been utterly impressed with your eagerness to learn and your drive to take an active role in your learning both at school and at home. You have demonstrated efficient research skills and the ability to group common facts in your information report on sugar gliders. You are a supportive and caring member of the Pandas. Keep up the great work. Miss Thomas Uzair – De Coubertin: Uzair, you must love words. It seems that since I went on leave, you have discovered what they are all about. Not only can you read most of the Magic 100, you have started writing independent sentences and (most importantly) are enjoying every moment of your learning. I am sure it is because you are linking your learning but please continue to show your growth otherwise I might just think it was only because I was away. Congratulations! Mr. Price Oscar – De Coubertin: It would be easy to give you this award for your learning. It would be easy to talk about going up 3 reading levels or that you are able to make Friends of 10. It would be easy to say that you are writing independent sentences. No, this award is for your ever expanding maturity. Your thoughtful responses. Your compassion for others who are in distress. Oscar, you are truly growing into the ‘big school’ now and I am so excited to be your teacher as I am there for each new moment. Thankyou for sharing your journey with me. Mr. Price Hamish – Proud Penguins: Hamish, you are a conscientious and hardworking penguin. You are a kind friend who knows how to have fun, which is so important. You always show respect to others and care for them when they need a warm fuzzy. Recently you completed some fantastic work on Australia and even shared your wish to go to see your favourite plant, the cactus. Keep up the great work. Mrs Cossins and Mrs Martin Angela – Proud Penguins: Angela, you are an incredibly happy and hardworking penguin. Your report on dolphins showed that you are writing confidently in complete simple sentences, using full stops and capital letters correctly. Your next step is to turn some of your simple sentences into compound sentences. In maths you are prompt to finish your work and your excellent understanding enables you to help others. Recently you completed a very neat and clear graph and you even remember to label the axes. Well done. Mrs Cossins and Mrs Martin EVATT SCHOOL P&C Canteen The Canteen is open Thursdays and Fridays and is always in need of volunteers to help with the preparation and serving of lunch orders.
