A Message from the
Erie Day School Head of School
Dear Friends of Erie Day School,
On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, administration and auction committee of
Erie Day School, I would like to thank you for joining in the celebration for the future of Erie Day School and the “Strong Foundation for High Expectations” we
have been providing since 1929.
Tonight we will celebrate the progress of our educational setting and our students
of past, present and future. It is also an opportunity to honor those who have taught and made decisions on behalf of children for decades. It is a time to recognize those who implement change and
growth within our students and school. It is a chance to acknowledge those who built and support Erie
Day School, one student, one concrete block at a time. It is also a moment to take a glimpse into the future of our school and deliver a charge to those who will help us impact our role in the community, particularly during a time so unsure for many.
In the spirit of celebration we would like to acknowledge each of you for making history with us tonight. The genesis of the early childhood lobby, gymnasium, and locker rooms is certainly a milestone
for EDS. We extend gratitude to all of our sponsors, donors, volunteers and attendees. Your support is
invaluable and will be used to expand not only our educational setting but also our student body.
We are proud of the remarkable history of Erie Day School over the past 87 years. We recognize that we
could not continue our mission without the contributions of our donors, contractors, allies, partner providers, students, parents, staff, faculty, Trustees, and educational peers. We look forward to your continued partnership in helping our learners build “Strong Foundations for High Expectations”.
Yours in education,
Dr. Karen K. Tyler
Head of School

Hakuna Matata!
Mr. Brennan Seward will meet with the winning bidder in May to create a commissioned
and unique 18" x 24" drawing. Mr. Seward is a
Zimbabwean artist specializing in illustrating
African life, including animals, human culture,
and landscapes through black and white pen
and ink drawings, watercolor sketches, and oil
paintings. At 17 he sold his first drawing at
Christie's in London. From there, he continued
his training, learning from masters in watercolor and ink in China and renowned African artists, including sculptor Patrick Mavros. Mr.
Seward developed a unique style of pen and
ink drawing to create high-detail high-contrast
illustrations. This style incorporates pointillism, stippling, and negative space so that the
white of the paper becomes as important as the
actual layering of ink itself. In a world of commercialization, each work of art Brennan creates is unique. He has held exhibitions in cities
across the United States, the UK, South Africa,
and Zimbabwe. Today his works hangs in collections such as the FirstRand Group, the largest corporate art collection in Africa. His work
is collected by European royalty and private
individuals around the globe.
