be.
St. John Berchmans (1599-1621)
Every year our Parish family generously donates items
to our GIVING TREE. The items donated go to support
the residents at St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children in Dorchester. For over 100 years, St. Mary’s has
provided service to women in need in the Boston area
and beyond. They are doing the good work of the
church and it is a most worthy cause.
They support more than 500 children,
adolescents and their families through
residential, emergency shelter, job training, educational, clinical, and aftercare
services. They work intensively with
young adults and children to ensure that
those, who might otherwise remain
trapped in intergenerational poverty,
have the support they need to help them
reach their true God-given potential. Please visit their
website www.stmaryscenterma.org to learn more about
all their good work on behalf of the Church. We are certain that you, our generous parishioners, will support
this cause and give generously, as you have in the past.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT - DECEMBER 14, 2014
A Note from Father Brian:
Bulletin Connection to the Readings
Although Jesus had not begun His public ministry, John knew that Jesus was the Messiah. It was
John’s mission to prepare other people to recognize that
fact. John and Jesus had first “met” when Mary visited
Elizabeth. Even from that early moment, John understood the significance of encountering Jesus. The Gospel of Luke tells us that the baby “leaped for joy” in
Elizabeth’s womb when the expectant Mary approached.
Now that these two babies were grown men, John was
still in the business of recognizing Jesus’ significance.
He describes His cousin as “the One who is coming after
me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” John
knew that Jesus was special, and he made it his goal to
lead others to the same realization.
Of course, as Christians in the twenty-first century, we already know that Jesus is the Messiah. Of
course, John’s words still raise an important question
for us today: Do we recognize the real significance of
Jesus? Today’s Gospel reading tells us that John came
“to testify to the light.” Do we let the light of Christ
guide our way? Today, as we light the third candle of
the Advent wreath, we would do well to reflect on the
true light that came down from heaven.
Stewardship News: All of the people in today’s readings—the prophet Isaiah, the Virgin Mary, St. Paul, St.
John the Baptist—seemed to understand clearly and rejoice in what God was calling them to be and to do. Do
I?
Clergy Health and Retirement Trust Christmas Collection: This Christmas, the collection will support
the health and well-being of our priests who have
dedicated their lives to serving the Catholic faithful.
Now, it is our turn to help fulfill the promises made
to care for them in their time of need. Please give
generously to the Christmas collection which will
directly benefit the 628 active and senior diocesan
priests whose health and well-being are cared for
through the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust.
All are invited to make a gift online at
www.clergyfunds.org or use the in-pew envelopes
provided. Thank you in advance for your prayers
and generous support of this critical effort.

St. Joseph
Wednesday, December 24—4:00 p.m.
Thursday, December 25—10:00 a.m.
Please pray the following prayer for our Tri-Parish
Community: Heavenly Father, You have gathered us
together as a parish to be Your visible life in our
world. Here we unite in worship, proclaim Your word,
celebrate the Eucharist, and are sent forth to share
Your love and make disciples. Lord, we take Your
Great Commission seriously and long for our parish
to be so on-fire that we draw people to You. Help us
in that endeavor, as we strive to work together - ordained, religious and laity. Please make our parish
amazing, through Your power and Your grace.
Amen.
As Catholics, evangelization and spreading the love of Christ
are central to our mission. As part of our parishes’ efforts to
welcome newcomers and visitors, we are being invited to offer each other a warm greeting prior to
our communal celebration of the Eucharist. Following the announcements, you
will hear the lector ask everyone to take a
moment to turn to those sitting nearby,
offer a simple good morning/good afternoon, and introduce ourselves. It is our hope that this small
change will help foster a spirit of community within our triparish and will better prepare us to enter in to the celebration
of the Eucharist together, united in our love of God and
neighbor.
