Packers 21
The Packers did exactly what
they needed to do. Win the
game and in doing so, greatly
improved their changes of
playing in February.
For
maybe the first time this year,
the Pack looked like a team
that wanted to be in the playoffs. Both Rodgers and Grant
had decent days. Aaron was
16 of 24 for 180 and a QBR of
88.9, not one his best but
passable. This was the first
time since November
9th of LAST year that
Rodgers did not have a
TD pass; however, I
think that the Refs had
something to do with
that when they missed
the call on the TD pass
to Jennings. Grant ran
for 137 yards on 20
carries for a 6.9 avg
but 62 of that came on
the first play for the Packers.
Take that away and he still
had a 3.9 avg., once again,
passable.
It was the defense that was
the difference again. Linda’s
boy Woodson grabbed another
INT and made some great
plays on run support. We limited the running game to only
59 yards and the passing game
to 195 yards. They did give up

2 TD’s but for the most
part they never allowed
duh bears to get into any
kind of rhythm.
Nick
Collins INT early in the
4th gave us a short field
(11 yard line) and
with the 2 point
conversion,
we
never
let
duh
bears
threaten
again. Overall I’d
say that we showed the
NFL why our defense is
ranked #1 right now.
As it turns out, shutting
down Hester was not a
problem; Chicago did
that for us when they
made him in active. Would that
have made a difference in the
outcome of the game? I doubt
it, but without him, it was a lot
easier for our special teams to
finally look special. Chicago had
-2 yards in punt returns and the
longest kickoff return was only
26 yards, barely average for the
league.
The biggest surprise of the day
was and the difference in the
game was penalties. Not us,
but duh bears. For once we
were not the target of the yellow flags.
Duh bears that
looked more like the Packers
then we did. As a matter of
fact, duh bears had more penalties this week (13 for 109) then
we did last week in the flag
fest. All told, we had only 4 for
30 yards. A performance like
that will go a long way in mak-
ing the playoffs and beyond.
At the end of the day, it ended
up like most other football talking heads and I thought that
the Pack would win. The good
that came out of this game was
that duh bears are officially out
of the playoffs and of course
that we swept duh bears and
left nothing for Lovie to live for.
I case you have not heard the
latest talk around the NFL, most
people now think that duh bears
suck. It’s always a good feeling
when we can do all that to duh
bears because now the rest of
the world is beginning to understand what we have known all
along. And that of course is
that duh bears will ALWAYS
suck. (JW)

Upon
further
review…THE

watch it! The club pulled out
all the stops and gave away

names, the list of prizes is
given here:

Many of these were multiples,
but all very nice prizes. If you
were there, but didn’t win anything, don’t worry, there’ll be
Packers
The Packer express continues
this week at Pittsburgh’s Heinz
Field as the team rides a five
game winning streak at (9-4).
These are two teams whose
elevators are heading in opposite directions; the Pack “going
up” to the penthouse, the
Steelers “going down” to the
mail room. On what floor will
they collide?
The Super Bowl champs are on
a five game bender at (6-7),
including drops to Kansas City,
Oakland, and the most recent
13-6 stinker to lowly Cleveland, which was a rivalry
game. However, there is still a
mathematical shot at the playoffs, and this Steeler group has
a lot of pride. They will be
ready to play.
Coming off the win at Chicago,

and 4th quarter - #117 Nick
Papala & Todd Wolf (Loren &
Nancy’s son who had just arrived from South Korea!!). The
trivia question winner this week
was #182 Rick Geil. Please
welcome back #185 Ken Hill.
Glad you could move back to
vs.
the Packers look more like
what we expected of this
group: a contender capable
of making a real playoff push.
The formula for the winning
streak has been pretty basic:
cut down on the pounding of
Rodgers, play better defense,
and get some semblance of a
running game to at least pose
a credible threat to opposing
defenses.
The sacks have gone down.
The defense is at the top of
the league, and has been
creating turnovers (33 total),
including nine interceptions in
the last three games. Nick
Collins has an INT in each of
the last four games.
Clearly, the man has been
Charles Woodson, having an
MVP caliber season. Second
Greenville! Looking forward to
this Sunday’s game against
The Steelers. Please note the
time change of 4:15!!! See
you at The Pocket!!

on
the
team
in
tackles, has two defensive TD,
two sacks, four forced fumbles,
and is leading the NFL with 8
INT.
The Packers must throw the ball
to achieve their apex. However,
the rush has become a credible
threat as Ryan Grant is turning it
on. Grant has heated up (2471068, 7 TD), and now posts a
respectable 4.3 average that’s
climbing.
Don’t let the Steelers recent troubles fool you. This team can still
bring it defensively. In fact, the
two teams stack up very closely
in defensive statistics:
Pass yards allowed: GB 187, PIT
209.2.
Rush yards allowed: GB 85, PIT
84.9.
Total yards per game: GB 272,
PIT 294.1.
Points per game allowed: GB
18.7, PIT 18.8.
Steelers to watch: QB Ben Roethlisberger (273/400, 3346 yds,
19 TD), RB Rashard Mendenhall
(194-940, 4.8 ypc, 5 TD), WRs
Santonio Holmes and Hines Ward
(146 catches, 2023 yards, 9 TD
combined). Additionally, you
can watch impact safety Troy
Polamalu in street clothes on
the sideline…heh heh.
A win clinches the playoffs for
the Packers. The Steelers are
“deader than fried chicken”
with a loss. A big-time collision between two proud and
historic franchises. Let’s hope
the Pittsburgh elevator will
continue its ride from the penthouse to the outhouse. Go,
Pack, GO!!!

In order for us at the Packer Backer Bits
to put out the quality product week after
week, we need your help. With the coming of Christmas, all my staff will be extra
busy. If anyone can help out, even it only
one week, it could be a big present to us
all. The weekly publication is meant to
be the voice of the Greenville Packer
Backers, not just a voice of the few. Remember, the door is always open at the
Packer Backer Bits.
Here are some ways to help:
• Pick a week and do the preview of a
game and do the review the following week.
• Search the web for the past week’s
game pictures and next week opponent to use each week.
• Create Packet Tidbits and little fill in
items (i.e. after further review...
• Write small article about “How I
spent my Packer Sunday” when you
see the game out of town.
Here is the new question for next Sunday’s
(12/27) Seahawks game:
I don’t mean to do your job, but he did
touch my facemask, can I fall down now?
On 11/1/99, the Packers lost to the
Seahawks on Monday Night Football
7-27. However, 2 Packers had a good
night racking up 100+ yards. Who
were they?
Here is the question for this Sunday’s
(12/20) Stealers game:
Who did the Steelers beat in their
first Super Bowl (IX) win on 1/12/75
and what was the score?
Here is the answer to last Sunday’s
(12/13) duh bears game:
When was the first game Vince
Lombardi coached against the Bears
September 27, 1959
and what was the score?
