Use your engineering and building skills
to construct LEGO models with motors,
pulleys, gears, and other interesting features.
You will even be able to add movement to

participate in 3 “Gears” projects to be able to

program is made possible by The Friends of
the Grayslake Library.

Ever feel like screaming or throwing a tantrum just
like your child? Many families raising toddlers/
preschoolers struggle with “behaviors.” There are
many resources on behavior management, but
what parent has time to read them?! During this
workshop, Ally Simpson (WeeBits For Families)
will talk about development of toddlers and
preschool age children and common behaviors.
We’ll brainstorm strategies about why your child
may have these problems and what you can do
about them. All parents, caregivers, or educators
are welcome to come, learn and share your
experiences.
HELPING HANDS
The summer is coming, and we are in need of a few “good hands” to help with crafts, programs, and keeping our room and books tidy during
the summer. Helping Hands is open to kids who are starting 6th - 8th grades, hold a Grayslake Library card, and have service hours to fill, or
who simply enjoy helping out. Registration forms are available beginning in April until openings are filled. For more information, ask at the Youth

BOOK BUDDIES
This is an opportunity for middle-school kids who want to share their love of reading to buddy-up with younger children and read stories out
loud. Readers must have completed 5th grade and hold a Grayslake Library card. Reading sessions will be on Tuesdays and Fridays in June and

Safe Child
The Grayslake Area Public Library is dedicated to providing a
welcoming and safe environment for people of all ages. In order to
accomplish this, the library relies on parents/caregivers to closely
supervise their children. The Board of Trustees has adopted
an Unattended Children’s Policy, stipulating that a responsible
adult remain in the library while a child grade 5 and under is
participating in a program. For more information, please ask a
library staff member for a copy of the complete policy or view it at

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE RISING COST OF COLLEGE

Each year, the price of college tuition rises higher than the annual
inflation rate. With these steep increases, how can college bound
families afford to pay for college? Thomas J. Jaworski of Quest

Take a timed ACT practice test, sponsored by the Huntington
Learning Center of Grayslake. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. for the 10
a.m. test start time, so please don’t be late. Students should bring a
#2 pencil and a non-phone calculator (ideally a graphing calculator).
Tests will be graded by the next day and distributed at the followup event below. Open to anyone in grades 7-12. REGISTRATION

Get your results and a full analysis of your ACT Practice Test the
next day! Representatives from the Huntington Learning Center

HYDRANGEAS ARE HOT! (AR)

Spring is right around the corner! Are you ready to get
outside and garden? Let horticulturist Sharon Yiesla, owner
of “Sharon Yiesla, Horticultural Services”, guide you on
selecting and caring for the hydrangeas best for your space.
Hydrangeas have become one of the most prominent plants
in landscaping, with many new varieties available. Yiesla’s
experience includes working as an Horticulture Educator with
the University of Illinois Extension and teaching classes at the
Chicago Botanic Garden.

Driehaus Museum has an exhibit running Feb – May featuring

will present a slide lecture discussing the costumes from
exhibit and their historic context.

The AARP Tax-Aide program will be offering free tax return
filing (federal and state returns) at the library this coming tax
filing season. The service is offered on Wednesdays from 9:30
am - 1:30 pm beginning February 3 and continuing until April 13.
The confidential service is primarily provided for seniors and low
income clients. Appointments are required and can be made at the

The Grayslake Library Foundation’s Fourth Annual MiniGolf
Fundraiser will be held March 5th and 6th. We will have familyfriendly daytime sessions 1 - 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday
afternoons. The 21-and-Up Saturday evening session will once
again feature a Dessert Extravaganza. Tickets are $5 for the daytime
session and $20 for the evening one. They will be available at the
Circulation Desk in February.
