You will even be able to add movement to your model with LEGO software! You must participate in 3 “Gears” projects to be able to go on to “Cam” projects. Grades 4-6. Out-of-district card holders can register for programs, when space is available, starting two weeks before the event. Please note: Children grade 5 and under may attend programs on their own, but a responsible adult must remain in the library during the program. Youth Programs are in demand. “No shows” are unfair to those on the waiting list. Reservations not cancelled with 24 hours notice are “no shows” and will affect your ability to register for future programs. BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT (YR) Saturday, March 12, 10 am Ever feel like screaming or throwing a tantrum just like your child? Many families raising toddlers/ preschoolers struggle with “behaviors.” There are many resources on behavior management, but what parent has time to read them?! During this workshop, Ally Simpson (WeeBits For Families) will talk about development of toddlers and preschool age children and common behaviors. We’ll brainstorm strategies about why your child may have these problems and what you can do about them. All parents, caregivers, or educators are welcome to come, learn and share your experiences. HELPING HANDS The summer is coming, and we are in need of a few “good hands” to help with crafts, programs, and keeping our room and books tidy during the summer. Helping Hands is open to kids who are starting 6th - 8th grades, hold a Grayslake Library card, and have service hours to fill, or who simply enjoy helping out. BOOK BUDDIES This is an opportunity for middle-school kids who want to share their love of reading to buddy-up with younger children and read stories out loud. Readers must have completed 5th grade and hold a Grayslake Library card. Reading sessions will be on Tuesdays and Fridays in June and July at 10 am and Tuesdays at 6:30 pm. Ages 4-8 with an adult caregiver. • Saturday, April 9, 10:30 am Safe Child The Grayslake Area Public Library is dedicated to providing a welcoming and safe environment for people of all ages. In order to accomplish this, the library relies on parents/caregivers to closely supervise their children. The Board of Trustees has adopted an Unattended Children’s Policy, stipulating that a responsible adult remain in the library while a child grade 5 and under is participating in a program. For more information, please ask a library staff member for a copy of the complete policy or view it at www.grayslake.info. - grades 7-12 Registration is not required for any of these events, so feel free to drop-in if you can and bring a friend! BEGIN YOUR COLLEGE SEARCH with Thomas Jaworski (TR) Monday, April 11, 7 pm Finding the right college does not mean choosing where you will live the next four years. It means finding the best academic, social and financial fit for college bound students. In this presentation, Thomas Jaworski of Quest College Consulting will provide high school families with tips and advice on how to start and breakdown the stressful college search process. MONEY SMART WEEK April 23 - 30 COLLEGE SAVINGS NIGHT (TR) Monday, April 25, 6 pm The cost of college tuition increases every year, leaving many families wondering how they will be able to afford college. Wouldn’t it be great if you could live worry‐free and not be concerned about how you will pay for college? Well, you can! Please join us to learn more about 529s. HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE RISING COST OF COLLEGE with Thomas Jaworski (TR) Tuesday, April 26, 7 pm Each year, the price of college tuition rises higher than the annual inflation rate. With these steep increases, how can college bound families afford to pay for college? Thomas J. Jaworski of Quest College Consulting will share his expertise to breakdown the cost of college, explain changes to the financial aid process and how to find scholarships. ACT PRACTICE TEST (TR) Saturday, April 30, 10 am - 2:30 pm Take a timed ACT practice test, sponsored by the Huntington Learning Center of Grayslake. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. for the 10 a.m. test start time, so please don’t be late. Students should bring a #2 pencil and a non-phone calculator (ideally a graphing calculator). Let horticulturist Sharon Yiesla, owner of “Sharon Yiesla, Horticultural Services”, guide you on selecting and caring for the hydrangeas best for your space. Hydrangeas have become one of the most prominent plants in landscaping, with many new varieties available. Yiesla’s experience includes working as an Horticulture Educator with the University of Illinois Extension and teaching classes at the Chicago Botanic Garden. This popular series has given us both memorable characters and costumes. Chicago’s Driehaus Museum has an exhibit running Feb – May featuring over 35 costumes from the series. Tickets are $5 for the daytime session and $20 for the evening one. They will be available at the Circulation Desk in February.
