The lowdown on homework...
Dear Mums and Dads
Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard
A Cape Town newspaper recently published an article about a
school that believes in a “nohomework” policy. This subject
has received much attention in
recent years as schools have
moved from a position in the past
where homework was given great
emphasis, to a more recent position where the validity of homework is now being challenged.
What is clear is that school today
is very different from the school
and childhood that you and I
grew up in. Children today lead
busy, active and engaged lives
that often leaves little time for
relaxation and play. Time out to
reflect and simply enjoy being a
child is as important as a Mathematics or English task.
House took the decision to allow homework only for the core
subjects like mathematics and
languages. Therefore, there is
some homework on a daily basis, but it is manageable and
allows children to cope with a
busy extra-mural timetable, as
well as some time to play. Reddam House also has a policy
whereby all project tasks and
assessments are completed at
school. This also reduces homework load. Research is still undertaken at home.
U 13 Cricket Match
On Tuesday the 23rd of February,
the U 13 Cricket Team played an
away game against a school in
Rondebosch called Forres. What
made this match so special is that
the teacher in charge of the opposing team was none other than
Mr Thomas, our former English
teacher.
It was wonderful to see both
schools playing a cricket match

Food Fair
Our PnF will be hosting their traditional Food
Fair at Reddam House ASB on Saturday morning the 12th of March. The funds raised are
used to give back to the community in the
form of charity and assistance where needed.
This has always proven to be a lovely morning
full of good food, music and fun for the kids.
Please make an effort to pop in and to enjoy
the ambiance. It is, after all, for a good cause!

Gr 7 Leadership Seminar
On Friday 12 February, the Grade 7 group went to the Green Point Urban Park for a leadership seminar. The seminar
was run by Jane Acker, who completed various tasks with each of the leadership teams. The purpose of the seminar
was to assist our leaders in better managing and applying themselves to their duties and responsibilities.
Pupils role played various situations, and demonstrated the most effective ways of dealing with some of the privileges
and challenges of being a leader in 2016.
All round, the day was most productive and has already begun reflecting positively in the day-to-day lives of our leaders

AFRIKAANS DEPARTMENT

Well done Paris!
Match Reports
Cricket
U10 vs ISHB: The U10 cricket team played their first hard ball match against ISHB on Monday 15 February at
Green Point Cricket Club. We were inserted in to bat and scored regularly as the opposition gifted us runs with so
many extras. Sam Collins also weighed in heavily with an unbeaten 27 runs. We scored a competitive 72 runs for
only 2 wickets. We started off bowling very well with tight spells from Kai Collins and Ben Hendrikse as we had
ISHB at 3 for 14 after 5 overs. However, we lost our way a little bit with some wayward bowling and gave away far
too many extras. Although we did our best to pull it back with wickets at regular intervals, the damage had already
been done and ISHB won by 4 wickets. Sam Collins was the man of the match.
