Honored by the White House, recognized by National Geographic and National Public Radio as one of the Great Explorers of the Twentieth Century, and the recipient of the prestigious Vancouver Award by the Explorers
Club are just a few of the many awards of achievement and recognition Helen
has received throughout her incredible career as an explorer, best selling author, business
woman, athlete, and motivational speaker.
At 50 years old she was the first woman to travel alone to the magnetic North Pole
The first woman to walk 4,000 miles across the Sahara Desert
At 63 years old she was the first to walk across the 1,600-mile Mongolian Gobi Desert
The first non- Indian to Kayak 1,200 miles of a remote area of the Amazon
In a unique study she lived with wild wolves for one year above the Arctic Circle
These firsts are all without guides or outside help. In addition she has climbed many of the world’s
highest mountains, represented three countries in international track and field, and was the USA
national luge champion.
Helen is the author of Three Among the Wolves, Trekking the Mongolian Gobi Desert, and best
selling Polar Dream.
She has appeared on Good Morning America, The Today
Show, and in National Geographic and Readers Digest to
name just a few of her national media appearances.
Her speaking appearances have included an audience of
2,500 at the Seattle Benaroya Hall for National Geographic in
addition to engagements for corporations, conventions, non
profit groups, educational establishments, and governments
including the Kremlin.
The purpose of Helen’s exploration is to create educational programs for Adventure Classroom
in which she takes the four corners of the world into schools nationwide to motivate students to
set goals, plan for success and to be persistent. All of Helen’s speaking fees support Adventure
Classroom.
Helen’s clients describe her speaking style as electrifying, dynamic, enthusiastic, yet warmly humble and down to earth as she easily relates to audiences of all ages both men and women.
