Why I love being a Finger Lakes H
ealth Nurse...
I work at FLH because I feel prou
d to serve the community in which
I live. My
iliar face when their loved ones ar
e sick. FLH
has also provided me with a flexib
le schedule in which to raise my
children and
have the ability to attend their sch
ool functions. And I love living clo
se enough to
ride my bike to work!!
Why I got into nursing...I wa
s fascinated with anatomy and ph
ysiology. I also
loved the emotional impact nurse
s have on patients lives and how
it affects
recovery from illness. Nursing is
an art and a science. I meet familie
s on what
seems to be the worst day of their
lives and if I can somehow make
that day better,
I have achieved something.
I was able to attend two Nationa
l Critical Care Conferences and ob
tain critical
care certification with tuition sup
port/organizational training fro

trying to find myself. I was with
my best friend at her mother’s sid
e
when she was taking her last brea
th and at that very moment I reali
zed
what, until then, I had been deny
ing. Having seen the caring ways
the
nurses took with her was the light
that ignited my passion and awok
e
the one thing that lay asleep inside
me for all those years. The journ
ey
was over! What I searched for wa
s finally found-the career that wo
uld
drive me to where I am today. Be
ing a nurse was what I was born
to be,
and I would not change it for an
ything in this world!!
Career Path...I started out as a

Why I love being a Finger Lakes H
ealth Nurse...
Because healthcare is constantly
changi
trying new things. I love the aut
ono
ng there is never a dull moment.
I am constantly learning and
my that my job offers and the tea
mwork of my colleagues.
Radiology nursing is very intere
sting, exciting, and allows nurses
to use their critical thinking skills.
I
take pride in my career and love
helping and advocating for patien
ts.
Future plans...My career and per
sonal life is leading me down the
path of advocacy. Healthcare is
constantly changing to a climate
of patient safety and satisfaction
for which I have a passion.
Personally, I have 2 children wit
h disabilities that have been very
challenging. My plan is to be an
advocate for those with disabiliti
es and their families.
Why I got into nursing...As a
child I was intrigued about nursin
g-always reading books on
nursing-ie; Clara Burton and Flo
rence Nightingale. When I was a
junior in high school trying to
decide what career choice I wante
d, I had several family members
become ill and die. I felt helpless.
It
was at that time that I decided to
become a nurse.
Special projects/committees: Started patient safety committee and act as resource
regarding patient safety in Radiology. Member of Nursing Safety Committee. Certificate
in Patient Safety through University of Rochester. Developed and currently teach a
central line Associate Bloodstream Infection Initiative, Publish PICC/VAD for FLH.
