Message from Fr. Elvis
____________________________
Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes Church,
I cannot leave without sharing a few words with you. I said the
other day that I always considered myself an "old man”, not because
I am old, but rather, because I always liked old songs that are
everlasting. One of my favorite songs is by Julio Iglesias. This song
is titled "Moments", and in a very clear and romantic way, it tells us
that life is made of moments and those moments are only lived once.
In these two years that I have lived among you, God has allowed the
parish of Our Lady of Lourdes to become another moment in my
life. Let me tell you, these “moments” that I have lived with you
have been full of blessings and much growth. These moments have
taught me not to be afraid to love, and be loved, to correct and be
corrected, to challenge and be challenged. Thank you for inviting me
into your lives and thank you for these moments!
In a special way, I want to thank Msgr. Schwanger, Msgr. Anderson
and Father Pietraszko for treating me like a brother. Their
friendship, advice, and challenges have served me as indispensable
tools to continue growing as a priest and as a person.
I want to finish this brief message by asking you to pray to the Lord
to continue to send Holy Shepherds to His flock. May Our Lady of
Lourdes and St. Bernadette bless you, keep you, and protect you
always.
This is not a goodbye, but simply, “I see you later.”

Mensaje de Padre Elvis
____________________________

We congratulate Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School Alumni Sabrina Gato,
Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School’s 2015 Valedictorian.
Sabrina Gato’s transcript is impressive, noting advanced courses in Dual Enrollment Government, Dual
Enrollment Spanish Literature, Dual Enrollment Spanish Language, Dual Enrollment Philosophy, Dual Enrollment Ethics, AP World History, AP American History, AP English Language, AP English Literature,
AP Chemistry, AP Physics and AP Calculus. Achieving the highest GPA in the Senior Class while maintaining such a difficult load is no small feat. There was fierce competition amongst this senior class and this
individual maintained a focus and discipline that is not the norm for the average teenager.
Aside from being an active member of several Honor Societies on campus, Sabrina was also given the prestigious title of Vice President of the National Honor Society. Our Valedictorian went above and beyond her
responsibilities helping younger students by serving as a mentor to them and spending many hours tutoring
after school.
Sabrina is highly respected and well liked by her peers, something that is clearly evident in the support she constantly receives from her
friends.
As expected, Sabrina’s hard work also paid off with acceptances in various prestigious institutions of higher learning and with scholarship offers in the six figure bracket. Although she has chosen to join FIU’s prestigious Honors College program next year, this graduate
was also accepted at the University of Miami and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, considered a public ivy school, and was offered close to $120,000 in scholarship money. Yet, what the faculty and staff is more than proud of, is that we are sending into the world
an intelligent and caring individual who will no doubt have a positive impact on the lives she touches.
We thank Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Parish community for providing a solid foundation for our students to make them
successful in life.
Last Weekend - BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN 2015
This is the last weekend to collect the Baby Bottles but there is still time to take one. We will be at the entrance of the Church before and after every Mass.
We request that you return all Baby Bottles, full or empty, since they will be used by other parishes and the
replacement cost of lost ones would diminish our total contribution to such a worthy cause.
If you need to return the bottles after May 31, please bring it to the Parish office as soon as possible and we
will pick them up.
We thank you for your generosity! May God bless you always!

“I strongly suspect that if we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers make, and all the
people those little prayers were destined to affect, and all the consequences of those prayers down
through the ages, we would be so paralyzed with awe at the power of prayer that we would be unable
to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives.” - Peter Kreeft, Professor of Philosophy, Boston College
