Computing Officer – Natasha Latysheva
Hey BAs! My name is Natasha, and I’m a 2nd year
PhD student in the Computational Biology group at
the LMB. I’m interested in running to be the
Computing Officer in the BA Society.
From my PhD studies, undergraduate internships
and geeky pastimes, I’m used to spending a
worrying amount of time on computers. I’ve been
programming for the last 5 years or so and am
generally happy working through new technical
challenges.
Having been Ents Officer on the BA Committee last
year, I’ve also gained experience in organizing and
running large events as well as an understanding of
how the BA society operates. In addition, I’ve acted
as Social Rep on the LMB’s graduate committee last
year and am helping to run the new Data Science
Society this year, so basically I just really like being
(questionably) highly involved!
I also have a ~reasonable understanding of the
types of tasks Andy was responsible for as last year’s computing officer.
For the rest of my manifesto, I bring you unsolicited programming jokes:
-
There are 10 kinds of people in this world: Those who understand binary, those who don't,
and those who weren't expecting a base 3 joke.
In order to understand recursion you must first understand recursion.
Q: How many programmers does it take to screw in a light bulb? A: None. It's a hardware
problem.
Why do Java developers wear glasses? Because they can't C#.
A SQL query goes into a bar, walks up to two tables and asks, "Can I join you?"
A guy walks into a bar and asks for 1.4 root beers. The bartender says "I'll have to charge you
extra, that's a root beer float". The guy says, "In that case, better make it a double."
Why is 6 afraid of 7 in hexadecimal Canada? Because 7 8 9 A?
A wife calls her programmer husband and tells him, "While you're out, buy some milk”. He
never returns home.
A programmer had a problem, she decided to use threads. now two has . She Problems.
A web developer walks into a restaurant. He immediately leaves in disgust as the restaurant
was laid out in tables.
