Welcome from the Palace Team...
What a way to end the year and start
2013! The panto was one our best yet ticket sales were well up on previous years
and the trend has continued well into the
Spring season. Keep on coming!
Heading into Summer we have some
highlights to look forward to: Shaolin
Warriors’ Return Of The Master is a
must see for all the family – a spectacle
of precision and stunning routines; not
dissimilar to the recreation of Mike
Oldfield’s Tubular Bells – performed live
on stage by just two musicians!
More stunning musicianship will be on
display when folk legends Brass Monkey
take to the stage, showcasing their
new album and confirming their rightful
02
position as the godfathers of English folk.
Guitars, Guitars! Taking us back just 40
years will be Steve Howe, former lead
guitarist with Yes, one of the great bands
from the prog rock era. Taking us back
even further, to the blues of the 20s &
30s, is an evening that will feature some
of the finest guitar playing you could ever
wish to hear featuring Ari Eisinger and
John Miller from the US.
Tributes to the Rat Pack (featuring Kenny
Lynch), Judy Garland & Liza Minelli, The
Beatles and Elvis are all there to look
forward to – just making us wish we
hadn’t missed them first time around!
Take a look inside the brochure, pick a
few shows and book some seats! This

Brass Monkey
Winner of Europe’s largest Elvis
competition, Rob Kingsley is also
officially endorsed by Elvis Presley
Enterprises. This show features
The Cadillacs Band and The Sweet
Sensations and brings you an evening
of all the classic hits right through the
Early Years, the Vegas era and up til the

sound and charisma. Along with his
fantastic costumes, this show leaves
the audience in no doubt that they are
witnessing a truly authentic Elvis show.
Brass Monkey show just how dynamic and
exciting folk music can be with a big sound,
fantastic rhythms but without sacrificing
attention to detail. They are arguably one
of THE super groups of the English folk
scene, featuring legends Martin Carthy,
Martin Brinsford and John Kirkpatrick.
Taking some of the great tunes of the
repertoire and surprisingly adding brass
instruments to the more traditional guitar
and accordion creating an unforgettable
sound that has had a lasting influence.

Age of Aviation
Tubular Bells For Two
A new programme of historic films from
the Aviation Film Archive, this time telling
the history of the Handley Page Aircraft
Company whose HP42 passenger airliner for
Imperial Airways helped to establish Britain’s
link with the Empire and indeed, civil aviation
itself. The full supporting programme includes
footage of behind the scenes maintenance
on Jumbo jets and much more... It’s all
genuine archive film, mostly newly discovered
and being shown for the first time. There’s
nothing digital about this event!
When Mike Oldfield released his 1973
masterpiece, Tubular Bells, it required
more than 30 musicians to perform it.
Now, 40 years on, performed by just
two massively talented musicians, this
thrilling show recreates the album
on stage, in real time in a unique and
compelling theatrical experience.
Tubular Bells for Two burst onto the
international scene at the Sydney Festival
and was the smash-hit show of the 2012
Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Witness this
herculean feat as this album is recreated
with just four hands and four feet.

Rumpelstiltskin
We’ll Meet Again
Poor Polly Buckwheat, the Miller’s
daughter, is in a bit of a pickle! If she
doesn’t turn a roomful of straw into
gold by morning, the greedy King will
turn nasty. But should she accept the
kind help of an eccentric dwarf who
mysteriously appears in her prison
cell? Of all the fairytale characters,
Rumpelstiltskin is surely the most mixed
up. Helpful yet demanding; secretive yet
nosy; short yet owning a name as long
as his beard. Not surprisingly, this story
of transformation will make you laugh
and gasp at the same time!
Celebrating its 15th year on the road
in 2013, We’ll Meet Again remains
Britain’s best matinee show. This new
tour brings together a new selection of
classic hits from the much loved team
of Adam Daye, Marilyn Hill Smith, Tony
Leyton and Andy Eastwood. Hosted
by the wonderful Mervyn Francis, We’ll
Meet Again will leave everyone with a
warm, sentimental glow having enjoyed
a fabulous afternoon of nostalgia.

Being Tommy Cooper
Las Vegas, 1954. In a small hotel room the up-and-coming Tommy Cooper
faces the prospect of his first big failure. With the show closing and a warring
relationship with his manager, Tommy finds an offer on the table and a drink
in his hand.
Upbeat Beatles
Steve Howe
50 years on from 1963 when The
Beatles first took the UK by storm,
The Upbeat Beatles are keeping the
excitement alive with their powerhouse
vocals and close harmonies, paying
tribute to the original Fab Four.
No tricks, no backing tracks, just the
best in the business recreating the
raw energy and authentic sound of The
Beatles. The Upbeat Beatles are the
closest you’ll see to the real thing!
From Steve’s early days as a session
guitarist on Keith West’s “Excerpt
from a Teenage Opera” to the heady
heights as a member of Yes, Steve
has held the position of being one of
the most revered guitar players ever.
His signature solos in Yes remain a
benchmark for aspiring rock guitarists
but are just the tip of the iceberg of his
work on variety of stringed and fretted
instruments, across a multitude of
styles. Steve is as at home playing jazz,
country and classical music as he is
playing acoustic or electric rock guitar.

Puccini’s La Bohéme
By Heritage Opera
Danny and Sandy fall for each other
during a carefree summer fling. But when
the school year begins, Danny is torn
between his feelings for good-girl Sandy
and his image with the T-Birds and the
Pink Ladies. Greased Lightnin’, Summer
Nights & You’re The One That I Want are
just some of the songs to be performed
in this fun packed NYT youth production.
La Bohéme, an opera in four acts, was
premiered in Turin in 1896 and has become
possibly the most popular opera of all time.
Four young men, a musician, a
philosopher, a painter and a poet, share
a garret in Paris, scraping a living and
trying to keep warm. Their neighbour,
Mimi, knocks on the door on Christmas
Eve. Her candle has blown out and she
asks Rodolfo for a light so she can
return to her own apartment. At one
touch of her cold little hand, Rodolfo
falls in love with the fragile Mimi.

days. Please note that credit card
payments, postage and online bookings
may be subject to fees.
Concessions, where available, may
apply to children, senior citizens,
students, families, disabled people,
registered unemployed, Friends of the
Palace and groups. Not all discounts
apply to all shows. Babies under 12
months are free but must hold a valid
ticket. Please see further terms and
conditions on the back of your tickets.
Please note that a handling
fee now applies to all tickets:
Less than one third of ticket revenue
comes to the theatre. In order to continue
providing entertainment in Newark, we
must cover our ticketing costs. The prices
in this brochure include a handling fee, as
well as the face value of each ticket.
Ramped access from street level and
a lift allows for complete access to the
foyer, downstairs bar and disabled toilet
(situated in the corridor between the
bar and auditorium). A further lift allows
access to the Byron Room and first floor.
Please note that this lift does not allow
for complete access to the circle, and
there are no toilet facilities on this level.
The Stalls Auditorium includes four
wheelchair spaces with adjacent
companion seat and several seats
suitable for those with mobility
difficulty. When booking your tickets,
please discuss your requirements with
the Box Office.
The Auditorium is fitted with an
infra-red induction loop for the benefit
of patrons with hearing difficulties;
please ask at the Box Office for further
details. We welcome both seeing
and hearing guide dogs and water is
provided on request. Please inform our
Box Office staff when booking.
The handling fee subsequently comes
directly to the theatre as intended. Thank
you for your continued support.
