Brief Encounters
Monday 4th July, 9pm
Penelope Wilton, Sophie Rundle, Angela
Griffin and Sharon Rooney star as four
women striving to find happiness and
fulfilment in new six-part ITV drama series set
in the early 1980s. Nita (Griffin) and Steph
(Rundle) have a chance meeting in the
school playground that kick-starts a sequence
of events that changes both their lives. Steph
sees an ad in the local paper for Ann
Summers party demonstrators. Pauline
(Wilton) jumps in at the deep end when
Steph, who works as her cleaner, introduces
her to the parties as a way to help with her
loneliness, as Pauline‘s sunny disposition hides a secret sadness. She and her husband, local
butcher Brian (Peter Wight), love each other but their relationship has suffered while he has
concentrated on building his business. Nita is also keen to earn extra cash, as she has struggled to
run a household with a husband (Don Gilet) whom she adores but who frequently strays onto the
wrong side of the law. Pauline accidentally invites trainee hairdresser Dawn (Rooney) to Steph’s
first party. The buzz of earning serious cash with the other women gives Dawn the incentive to
finally realise her dreams.
Wild France with Ray Mears
Monday 4th July, 8pm
Popular bushcraft and survival expert Ray
Mears presents this brand new six-part series
which takes a closer look at the French
countryside. Following on from several series in
which he has explored the wildlife and
landscape of Britain, including Wild Britain and
Wild River, Ray now crosses the channel to
explore the geography, flora and fauna of six
dramatic French landscapes, including the high
mountain ranges of the Alps, the coastal waters
of Brittany, the chestnut forests of the Cevennes
and the wetlands of the Camargue. His journey
takes in some of the country's most stunning
scenery and areas of immense beauty and
diversity, much of which is unique to this part of
the world. In the first episode, Ray visits the
Vanoise National Park in the high Alps of
France, where he finds himself foraging in
alpine meadows, goat herding, tracking ibex and
spotting playful marmots, before trekking to the
top of a mountain to find one of the rarest birds
in Europe - the increasingly endangered
bearded vulture.

Catchphrase
Saturday 2nd July, 6.30pm
The classic game show which taught viewers to
say what they see kicks off another new series
with its latest host, Britain's Got More Talent and
Big Star's Little Star presenter Stephen Mulhern.
The show, whose long-running mascot Mr Chips
is recognised throughout the land, follows the
rules of the original format, but now sees three
contestants rather than two competing each week
in a bid to identify familiar phrases represented by
state-of-the-art 3D animated clues. In a further
recent twist for this 21st-century incarnation of the
show, the pressure is intensified further as one
contestant faces elimination from the competition after the first round, leaving the two remaining
players to battle it out as they attempt to reach the final. During the course of the show, the
contenders must bank cash as they guess the catchphrases correctly. They also have the chance to
win a big bonus if they manage to uncover the coveted bonus catchphrase. The final contestant
then gets the chance to face the Super Catchphrase round, in which they attempt to secure a
massive £50,000. Which of this week's three lucky contestants – Bianca, Tony and Jo – will manage
to impress Stephen and get the chance to win that big jackpot?
Euro 2016: Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals
Saturday 2nd, Sunday 3rd, Thursday 6th and
Friday 7th July, 7.15pm
ITV’s coverage of the last two
quarter-finals and the semifinals will be presented by Mark
Pougatch, with analysis from
former international players
including Slaven Bilic, Lothar
Matthaus, Glenn Hoddle, Ian
Wright, Lee Dixon, Peter
Crouch, Emmanuel Petit,
Christian Karembeu, Louis
Saha, Norman Whiteside and
Richard Dunne. At the time of
going to press, England face a
Round of 16 clash against
Iceland, who surprised many by
finishing runners-up to Hungary
in their group,
defeating Austria
and drawing with
Portugal. Roy
Hodgson’s side
have not exactly
set the world on
fire, but will be
confident of
progressing to
the quarter-final
stage, where
ITV.com
they are likely to face France in
Paris. The host nation face the
Republic of Ireland, who
qualified from Group E thanks
to Robbie Brady’s last-gasp
winner against Italy. Wales,
who surprised many by topping
their group despite a 2-1 loss to
England, face another
surprising qualifier in Northern
Ireland. Other clashes in the
Round of 16 include a
potentially explosive encounter
between European giants Italy
and Spain. The two sides met
in the final of the competition
four years ago, which resulted
in a surprisingly easy 4-0 win
for Vicente del Bosque’s
brilliant Spanish side.

Love Your Garden
Tuesday 5th July, 8pm
Series six of the popular horticultural
programme continues. In this episode, Alan
Titchmarsh and the team are in Nottingham.
They are here to create a garden for an
exceptional eight-year-old, Tilly Sawford. Six
years ago, Tilly was severely scalded in a freak
domestic accident. Since then she has spent a
lot of time in and out of hospital. Her scarred
skin does not grow like it used to, something
which has caused serious mobility issues as
she gets older. But despite the pain and
disfigurement, Tilly remains a sunny and
inspirational little girl. Her whole family are
immensely proud of her. Her two brothers and two sisters muck in to take care of her, while her
parents cannot believe how upbeat she is. The staff at the local hospital, charmed by her bravery,
want to show their affection by creating a garden for Tilly and the family. Despite the worst weather
the team have ever experienced, they completely transform an area that was no more than a
building site, and with the aid of a bold colour scheme, construct the biggest summer house the
series has seen yet.
Life Inside Jail: Hell on Earth
Tuesday 5th July, 9pm
Part two of the explosive documentary series,
filmed over six months in one of New York’s
toughest jails. Albany, New York State’s capital,
lies 150 miles north of Manhattan. Albany
County Jail sees petty thieves mix with hardened
gangsters, drug addicts and multiple murderers
while they wait for their cases to go to court.
Conditions are seriously tough. Headed up by
Sheriff Craig Apple and his team of 240 officers,
the jail accommodates over a thousand men and
women. America is currently suffering a heroin
epidemic, and many are here for drug-related
crimes. Once inside jail, inmates are
categorised according to their level of
risk. Level one inmates are considered
non-violent but level four inmates are
held on the maximum-security tier. Even
harder cases can find themselves in the
Special Housing Unit – segregated in a
jail within the jail.
In this episode, 6ft 7in Jarquell Williams is
on trial for murder, accused of shooting a
local man. Young mother Shea Hobbs
pays the price for covering a string of
burglaries committed by her boyfriend,
and addict Samantha Ujheyli faces a
tough decision when she is offered a deal
to snitch on her boyfriend.

Love Island
Sunday 3rd - Friday 8th July, 9pm
ITV2’s big summer of romance approaches its
exciting conclusion as the hit reality series moves
into its sixth and final week. Host Caroline Flack
presides over the ultimate game of love – with the
aid of some decidedly tongue-in-cheek narration
from Scottish comedian Iain Stirling – as this year's
set of stunning singles vie for the £50,000 prize.
The group of hot young things have been holed up
in a plush villa over the past six weeks, with viewers
privy to all the fun and flirtation that ensued. In order
to remain in their paradise, however, the singles
have had to win the hearts of the public as well as
each other. Will any real connections be made or will the final pairings turn out to be nothing more
than holiday flings? For every genuine romance that has developed, there have been plenty of
fauxmances and showmances – as well as a few bromances – along the way as the singles battled
it out for the attention of viewers and love interests alike. Some of the islanders have proven that
they will do just about anything to pair off successfully, but which of this year’s bunch – at the time
of going to press comprising Malin, Liana, Terry, Scott, Kady, Tom, Nathan, Alex, Olivia, Cara,
Adam, Tina and Sophie – can go the distance? Only time and a lot more flirting will tell!
The Vampire Diaries
Wednesday 6th July, 10pm
The seventh season of the US
supernatural drama series
continues on ITV2 this week.
Co-created by Kevin
Williamson and based on
novels by L.J. Smith, the first
six series centred around Elena
Gilbert, a resident of the small
town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.
After falling in love with a
centuries-old vampire named
Stefan Salvatore (Paul
Wesley), Elena and her friends
were pulled into a dark
underworld of vampires,
werewolves and other
supernatural goings-on. Elena's
fatal attraction to Stefan's dark,
brooding brother Damon (Ian
Somerhalder) only added to the
teen's problems, and last series
she paid the ultimate price for
becoming involved with
the pair. In the wake of
Elena's farewell, some
of the residents
continue to falter, while
others, such as Damon
and Stefan's evil mother
Lily (Annie Wersching)
and her recently
returned long lost lover
ITV.com
Julian (Todd Lasance),
continue to take advantage of
their grief.
In this week's episode, entitled
This Woman's Work,
complications from her
supernatural pregnancy leave
Caroline's (Candice King) life
hanging in the balance, so
Stefan and Valerie (Elizabeth
Blackmore) take extreme
measures to try and save her
and the babies. After
uncovering a dark secret about
Damon, Enzo (Michael
Malarkey) uses the information
to force Damon into helping
him track down Rayna Cruz
(Leslie-Anne Huff), a ruthless
vampire hunter who is on the
loose.

Mob Wives: New Blood *
Sunday 3rd July, 10pm
Series four of the gritty reality show,
ominously subtitled New Blood, reaches its
exciting climax this week. The US series
follows the lives of several women whose
husbands and fathers, all connected to the
Mafia, are now facing up to prison life. Renee
Graziano, Angela ‘Big Ang’ Raiola and Drita

with the long arm of the law, they realise
there is a price to pay and have been forced
to adjust to life in Staten Island, New York.

hands dirty. During the current run, the ladies have taken an eventful trip to Las Vegas, dealt with
press intrusion, suffered legal woes and even laid down some rap tracks with none other than
famed MC Method Man. In the season finale this week, Renee confesses to writing a sex novel,
Natalie tries to steal Renee's thunder at her book release party by performing her track Delicious
live, and it is the moment of truth for Alicia as she attends her sentencing.

Week 26/27
Tour de France *
All week, times vary
Last year’s winner Chris
Froome will be most people’s
favourite for the 2016 edition,
and if he succeeds he will
become the first Briton to win
three Tours. He will certainly
face tough opposition from
Spain’s Alberto Contador,
Colombia’s Nairo Quintana and
Italy’s Fabio Aru, but although
the riders are equally matched,
Froome has undoubtedly the
strongest team – a key factor in
last year’s victory. The Grand
Depart of this year’s Tour is the
spectacular setting of Mont
Saint-Michel, an island just off
the coast of Normandy, which
is only accessible by road at
low tide. The first stage runs
along the west side of the
Cherbourg Peninsula before
Monster Carp
swinging east to
finish at Utah
Beach, one of the
sites of the D-Day
landings on 6
June, 1944.
Despite the
choppy rolling
roads susceptible
to sidewinds, the
sprinters’ teams
will try to bring the
race together for a
final bunch sprint,
where Andre Greipel, Marcel
Kittel or Mark Cavendish will be
favourites to take the stage win.
The next day sees the race
stay in Normandy with the
finish in Cherbourg, then it
heads south with stage finishes
at Angers, Limoges, Le Lioran

and Montauban before ending
the week in the Pyrenees.
Presenter Gary Imlach is joined
by studio guest Chris
Boardman. Commentary is by
Ned Boulting and David Millar,
and the reporter is Daniel
Friebe.
Presented by exuberant carp fanatic Ali Hamidi, this brand-new four-part series focuses on man’s
global pursuit of the mysterious and powerful carp species. Accompanied by two fishing buddies, Ali
seek out giant carp across the world, overcoming perilous trials and unexpected tribulations in an
international quest for the ultimate angling adventure. The series takes in Hungary, the Austrian
Alps, Venice and the River Po in Italy and the environs of Mount Fuji in Japan.
In the first episode, Ali is joined by
angling pals and fellow carp enthusiasts
Tom Dove and Darrell Peck as they
head to Japan, The Land of the Rising
Sun. The country is known for its
legendary carp, particularly the colourful
koi, but can the team tempt one of
these monster fish to bite? They set up
their tackle in a stunning setting in the
shadows of Mount Fuji. Carp fishing is a
serious business, but with the jovial Ali
at the helm viewers can expect plenty of
laughs along the way.

News about ITV Shows
ITV recommissions The Frankenstein Chronicles for ITV Encore
ITV has commissioned a second series of the period crime drama The Frankenstein Chronicles,
starring multi-award-winning actor Sean Bean from producers Rainmark Films, to be screened on
ITV Encore.
Taking inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Gothic literary classic, the first series of The Frankenstein
Chronicles captured the imagination of both viewers and critics alike. Production of the new series is
set to begin in Northern Ireland in January 2017 and will be executive produced by Tracey Scoffield
and produced by David Tanner for Rainmark Films. Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, The Lord of the
Rings Trilogy, Accused) will also executive produce the new series.
Billed as a thrilling and terrifying reimaging of the Frankenstein story, the series introduced an
extraordinary hero as its central character. John Marlott, a veteran of the Battle of Waterloo, was
battling his own demons and haunted by the loss of his wife and child. In pursuit of a chilling and
diabolical killer, Marlott’s investigation took him into the most exalted rooms and darkest corners of
Georgian London, a world of body snatchers, anatomists and scientists whose interests and
ambitions came together in the market for dead bodies.
Marlott’s investigation brought him up against the medical establishment and powerful political
forces wrestling with the march of scientific progress. One thing was for certain – a demonic power
was clearly at work in the city, attempting to reanimate the dead in a curious parody of the
celebrated novel.
The Frankenstein Chronicles was created by Emmy-nominated director and writer Benjamin Ross
(The Young Poisoner’s Handbook, Torte Bluma – both as director) and writer Barry Langford (Torte
Bluma). The Frankenstein Chronicles is a Rainmark Films production in association with Far Moor
(Executive Producers Justin Thomson-Glover and Patrick Irwin) with funding from Northern Ireland
Screen. The series is distributed worldwide by Endemol Shine International.
Further details of casting will be available as filming commences.

News about ITV Shows
ITV commissions further Maigret films starring Rowan Atkinson
ITV today confirmed commission of two further single films featuring the legendary French fictional
detective Jules Maigret, starring globally renowned actor Rowan Atkinson in the title role.
Following huge audience appreciation and critical acclaim for Maigret Sets a Trap, which aired on
ITV earlier this year and achieved an impressive consolidated rating of 7.2m and a 28% share of
the audience, writer Stewart Harcourt (Love & Marriage, Treasure Island, Marple) will adapt Night at
the Crossroads from Georges Simenon’s novel. Simenon’s son John returns as an executive
producer of the new films. Simenon wrote seventy-five Maigret novels and is considered one of the
greatest writers of the 20th century, with worldwide sales estimated at over 500 million.
The second of the new films will be Maigret in Montmartre, set once again against the beautiful
backdrop of 1950s Paris. The two=hour long films are part of a Maigret series and go into
production in November 2016 until February 2017, being produced by Thompson & Thompson
Productions Ltd and Georges Simenon Limited. The executive producers are Barnaby Thompson
(Easy Virtue, Dorian Gray, St. Trinians) for Thompson & Thompson Ltd, John Simenon for Georges
Simenon Limited, Stewart Harcourt and Jeremy Gwilt (Undeniable, Foyle’s War, Torn, Home Fires)
who produced the first two Maigret films – Maigret Sets a Trap and Maigret’s Dead Man. Jeremy
Gwilt will also produce the new films. ‘Maigret's Dead Man’ based on ‘Maigret et son mort’ has
already been filmed and will air on ITV later this year.
