own life by shedding His blood on the cross for our
sins, and was resurrected by God from death to
provide eternal life to those who accept Him as Lord
and Savior and is soon coming back for His church.

Not Chasing the Next Dream
by Britt Espinosa
“The Exchange” band
My dad would always
joke that “The day after
Christmas, is better then
Christmas Day”. As a kid,
this rang resoundingly true!
The day after Christmas was
THE BEST! It was the best
because I got to enjoy the
results (or toys) of Christmas
Day; which I had waited for,
seemingly all year. Now if
the day after Christmas was
“the best”, then the second
day after Christmas might
have been the worst. The
second day after Christmas
is the day that as a kid, you
have played through all your
toys, explored everything
about them, lost your excitement; and then begin the next
year of waiting for Christmas
day.
This Christmas concept of
arrival, and disappointment
can ring true in our lives. As
a national touring band, we
have had the privilege to see
many of our dreams come
true! Many times I find myself
pushing, fighting, and endur-
The Exchange
ing towards a dream, only to
arrive, experience that dream
of playing for thousands of
people for 30 minutes, hear
our song on the radio for 5
minutes, shake the hand of
someone who is a huge inspiration for a brief moment,
and then be left wondering,
“What next?”. As Christians
in the music industry, our
purpose, goals, and the “what
next” question center around
Jesus Christ. Without Jesus,
we would always be chasing
the next big dream, only to
find it leaving us empty and
disappointed. I encourage
you to know Jesus! Knowing
Him brings a purpose, and
new meaning to life. Instead
of temporary happiness, He
brings lasting joy.

I’m thinking about lukewarm. Pondering a new column for this months POST,
my thoughts keep going there.
Primarily its from an experience I recently had in church.
We were in a special community wide service, and my friend
was the main speaker. I was
sitting up front, and, watching
him speak, I could see that he
was obviously parched. We’ve
probably all been there before,
talking, and struggling because
of a dry mouth.
So I watched for a while,
and wanted so much to get
him a glass of water, but didn’t
want to make a spectacle of it.
Radio Update
So something happened that
kind of distracted the crowd
for a second, and I jumped up
and made a break for the back
kitchen. I quickly grabbed a
cup, and opened the faucet and
poured in some liquid. As I
made haste to get the water to
my friend, some of it splashed
on my hand, and I realized that
it was warm water. But I didn’t
stop to correct it.
I got back into my seat, and
handed the glass to my friend’s
wife, who then silently gave it
to him. And then I watched him
take a drink. And I thought to
my self....that’s probably not
very refreshing. That’s lukewarm water. So what was supposed to be a help probably
wasn’t much.
As another example, my day
job has me servicing some pop
machines, and we all know that
one of the best things about
buying a cold pop is the fact
that its cold. The machines do
break down however, as compressors fail, and sometimes
the soda is warm. Yuck. No one
appreciates that.
The famous scripture about
‘lukewarm’ is the one where
Jesus is speaking in Revelation,
chapter 3. Its actually disturb-
ing, because no one would like
to be rejected by the Lord.
But He says, “These are the

Kelli Albright is the editor of
the POST. She is shown with
her dog Dakota.
I pass by a canal type stream
when walking my dog in our
neighborhood. I have noticed
broken toys----particularly a
child’s shocking pink “princess” wand, being washed
over by the water, debris, and
litter. Probably long lost and
forgotten.
I teared up when I saw a picture that my youngest daughter
had taken in Mexico. A simple
Thoughts on a Walk
sign made on a wooden post
with the words; “Home” and
an arrow pointing heavenward. Elizabeth spent her college spring break at a special
needs orphanage in Mexico.
Doing laundry at 4:45 a.m.
and hanging it to dry; changing diapers---both children and
adults---; giving showers...
spoon-feeding; cleaning...all
part of a day’s work. These
residents could have been long
lost and forgotten in poverty.
Someone cared to begin the
orphanage.
Even locally, and it goes
without saying, that we have
many children that could wind
up long lost and forgotten.
Because without mentoring;
without sharing God’s love,
they will. So many come from
broken homes, with overworked or unemployed parents.
Addictions are commonplace
in our little community as in
many towns. So many children are bullied or do the bul-
r icK r uSSell
lying themselves. Electronics
are their “friends”, or in some
cases, their babysitters.
Your laundry needs to be
done. You do it. The phone
rings or you receive a text mes-
sage. You answer it. You have
time for Facebook (ouch). You
have time to listen to a sermon. But do you have time
to roll up your sleeves and
minister to a child? To invite
a child you know for a picnic in your backyard?..to teach
Sunday School or (yikes...a
whole week!) Vacation Bible
School? “But I don’t know the
Bible stories...” You can learn
the Bible yourself through the
curriculum. You can hand out
all-important hugs. You can
even teach other real important
stuff like respect, boundaries,
love, and forgiveness to the
children...and it never hurts
to re-learn those things ourselves.
“But I already raised
my children and even my
grandchildren...”
Jesus
said, “Love your neighbor”.
Please consider showing what
Jesus is all about before any
more little ones are lost and
forgotten.

Rick Russell is a local

On the wall in my wrestling room is the statement:

Fame is man given--be humble
Conceit is self given--be careful”

It is too easy to confuse success with with
what you’re doing and
miss all the other reasons
why you’re doing so well.
Young athletes, filled with
themselves, can get off the
true path to true success.
In order to give credit where
credit is due, you must first
be truly thankful for the
natural talent God has given
to you. Without your innate
abilities it would be hard to
succeed in any sport.
You must also be thankful to your parents for the
sacrifices they make to give
you the opportunity to participate. They drive you
to practices and competitions. They come to support
you and cheer you on with
encouragement. They pay
for gear and participation
fees. They cover chores you
would have been responsible
for. They put up with your
moods of elation and utter
disappointment and despair.
You must also be thankful
for coaches that sacrifice
time and family to teach
you fundamentals, technique, and teamwork. They
receive so little to give you
every opportunity to grow
and succeed.
Fame is not only mangiven but it is also fleeting.
As we entered the Easter
Season, I was reminded of
“Palm Sunday” when the
crowds yelled, “Hosanna
to the King.” Three days
later they yelled, “Crucify
Him, Crucify Him, crucify
Him.”. We must accept the
praise of men with humility
and with a grain of salt.
Conceit is the demise of
an athlete. Prideful arrogance destroys relationships.
Not
only the precious relationships of those
around you but
even the relationship with
yourself. You
must be careful not to confuse pride with
self respect.
You
have
worked hard to
get where you
are. Respect
yourself for
that.
Please
remember to
respect God
and all others
that have con-
tributed to your good fortune and you will be truly
successful.

*Due to NHS prom
Saturday, April 20. It appears
Newport YoungLife will NOT
be doing their annual after
prom event this year judging by the response to my
inquiries. According to Nina
Fairfield, YL leader, “Other
than Club and Campaigners, I
believe that is it,” (for April).
Hopefully another ministry
will choose to do an outreach
event on this crucial night next
year. Club meets at Yaquina
View gym every Monday in
April at 7:37 pm.
Everyone who believes in
Jesus as Lord, becomes part of
ONE body, with ONE purpose,
sharing ONE message. That
means our primary job while
on earth is outreach ministry.
Hopefully everyone will join
together to support, encourage, and help these ministries
reaching out to teens in our
community!
Sharing the Good News from page 4
stances. He knew he would not only need
prayer support from others, but for doors
of opportunity to open as well. (Being
bound in chains could limit your opportunities.)
oportunidades.)
We too should pray that God would
give us opportunities to share the Good
News with others. We should ask God
daily to open up doors for us to share His
love and grace. We need to take advantage of our opportunities, especially if we
want to have more of them. Be thankful
for the opportunities God gives you and
He will continue giving them to you.
Nosotros tambien debemos orar que
Dios nos de oportunidades de compartír
las Buenas Noticias con otros. Debemos
preguntarle a Dios cada día que nos abra
puertas para compartír su amor y gracia.
Necesitamos aprovecharnos de nuestras
opportunities, especialmente si queremos
mas. Digan gracias a Dios por las oportunidades y El les dará mas.
We also need to pray about how we
use our opportunities to speak. The
Apostle Paul asked for prayer for clarity in his presentation of the Gospel. He
knew that the enemy wanted to distort the
message so that others would not readily
understand it.
Tambien necesitamos orar de como
vamos a usar nuestras opportunities de
hablar. El Apostol Pablo preguntó por
oración para claridad de su mensaje. El
sabia que el enemigo queria torcer el
mensaje para que otros no lo pudieran
entender.
Do YOU know how to share the Good
News? Do you ask God to give you
opportunities to speak for Him? Do you
ask Him to clear your mind and fill your
Underwriter
heart with courage to speak for Him?
Will you allow Him to use you to draw
lost souls to Christ? If you don’t know
how to even begin, pray and ask a trusted
Christian friend to help you. God bless
you as you look for open doors to share
Jesus!
Usted sabe como compartír las Buenas
Noticias? Le pregunta a Dios por oportunidades para hablar por El? Le pregunta
a El que le de claridad de mente y llene
su corazon con valor para hablar por El?
Lo permite usar a usted para atraer los
perdidos a Cristo? Si no sabe ni como
comenzar, suplique en oración y preguntele a un Cristiano confiado que le ayude.

EACH DELICIOUS WORD
By Dee Ann Bogue
From my Children’s Lit class
in college, I remember the professor defining classics as ”masterworks that stand the test of
time.” Since then I’ve tried to
decide what might qualify as a
classic. Fashionistas tell us wool
blazers are a forever piece in
one’s wardrobe. Model T Fords
remain classics to this day. Fairy
tales are classics in the greatest
sense.
Early colonist’s only access
to Scripture was a huge Bible
chained to the church railing.
Since Christians throughout history had minimal access to the
Word; and even my generation,
as children, had mainly the King
James Version by which to learn
and grow in the knowledge of
God, it boggles my mind that
anyone could become or remain
a believer. That is certainly testimony to the power of the Holy
Spirit in guiding us into all Truth.

LaRita and I attended the
memorial service for Richard
Twiss a few weeks ago. Richard
was president of Wiconi
International, a ministry of
Jesus Christ to aboriginal people all over the world. We were
not all that amazed when people
just kept filing into the Living
Hope Church in Vancouver,
WA. As it turns out, 1,250
people attended the service.
One speaker came from New
Zealand, where Richard’s ministry had impacted her and her
family in a mighty way, help-
But Christianity did “catch on,”
often through reading the writings of others. I have been reading some Christian Classics and
am so blessed by the wisdom
from long ago.
Some of that early wisdom
still continues to bless those who
are hungry for Truth. I loved
reading Augustine’s Confessions.
I checked it out of the library
about five times before I finished reading that small book.
Augustine’s enlightened words
have taught deep truths for centuries. And who can forget John
Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress? I
have three copies in my library
and never tire of this great allegory and its relevance to my own
Christian journey. One copy,
with great illustrations, was read
to me as a child. I still remember the terror of the Slough of
Despond. Shiver! And the joy
in seeing the burden fall from
Christian’s back at the Cross.
Some more recent classics
have filled my book shelves as
well as my heart. The Cost
of Discipleship by Dietrich
Bonhoeffer wooed me in my
early trekking after God. I’ve
started on Thomas Merton’s
writings– what an unusual man,
yet what a writer and believer! Experiencing the Depths
of Jesus Christ by Madame
Jeanne Guyon has elevated her
to “hero/role model” status for
me. I recently read Practicing
the Presence of God by Brother
Lawrence. So many more I’d
like to mention. Are there others
you’d add? Please write to this
paper and let’s see how great a
list we can compile.
Therefore, since we have so
great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every
encumbrance, and the sin which
so easily entangles us, and let us
run with endurance the race that
is set before us, fixing our eyes on
Jesus, the author and perfecter of
faith…. Hebrews 12:1, 2A.
Remembering
Richard Twiss
ing them to reconcile in their
hearts and draw closer to Jesus
as a result of that. The reconciliation message? It is OK
to be aboriginal and practice
the traditions of your people
and still be a Jesus follower. She said that they felt
“set free” when Richard and
his group ministered to them.
Speaker after speaker got up
and told their piece of the story
about Richard and Katheryn
and the impact that Wiconi
International had on their lives
and, in many cases, their ministries. The M.C. of the event
was our good friend Cheryl
Bear. She was close to Wiconi
from day one and will remain
so I’m sure. It was good to
see Randy and Cheryl again.
Richard’s sons spoke eloquently about their father. It
was good to see the kids walking with the Lord. They were
holding a couple of Richard
and Katheryn’s grandkids
thoughout the event, the little
extra feathers in their bonnets.
The video presentation was
wonderful. The early years were
funny, what with the 70s haircuts and striped and checkered
clothes, the carrying through to
the days when Richard “came
out” as a Lakota man. Later it
showed the progression of their
kids from children to adults,
children to parents. Richard
was a “happy Gramps.”
Brian Brightcloud spoke and
was Master of Protocol when
Richard’s regalia was officially
retired. It was a tear-jerking time for those of us who
actually have such regalia and
know that someday ours will
be retired too. It was a very
honoring time for all involved.
I laughed when Brian said that
Richard was one of those guys
who didn’t have a mistress or a

“Un nuevo desafio, una
nueva oportunidad! Escribiendo
una columna por mes para
el Winds of Praise POST en
español. Estoy lista. Puedes
preguntar, “Cuanto español
puede saber una mujer que se
llama Donna Clark Popovich?”
Nomas un poquito de historia y
luego comienso con lo que Dios
plantó en mi corazon para compartir con ustedes.
My Grandmother and my
Mother were born in Mexico.
When my Mother and Father
married, she knew little English
and he knew no Spanish. So,
when I was learning to talk, I
thought it was normal to mix the
two, or “Spanglish” as we call it.
So, on to the column.
Mi Abuela y mi Mama nacieron en Mexico. Cuando mi
Mama y mi Papa se casaron, mi
Mama sabia muy poco Ingles
y mi Papa no sabia Español.
Cuando yo comensé a hablar, yo
pensaba que era normal hablar
“Spanglish,” como se dice.
Hora, para la columna.
I was thinking about this new
opportunity to share my love for
Jesus Christ and thought about
the Apostle Paul. I get to sit
in my comfortable desk chair,
in a warm house, with a full
belly and type this. The Apostle
Paul told us in Colossians 4:2-6,
“Continue in prayer, and watch
in the same with thanksgiving;
withal praying also for us, that
God would open unto us a door
of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am
also in bonds: That I may make
it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Walk in wisdom toward them
that are without, redeeming the
time. Let your speech be always
with grace, seasoned with salt,
that ye may know how to answer
every man.”
Estaba pensando de esta
nueva oportunidad de compartír
mi amor por Jesucristo y pensé
del Apostol Pablo. Yo puedo
sentarme en mi silla comoda,
en casa calientita con el estomago lleno y escribir a maquina.
El Apostol Pablo nos dijo en
Colosenses 4:2-6, “Perseverad

con acción de gracias; orando
tambien al mismo tiempo por
nosotros, para que el Senor nos
abra puerta para la palabra, a

Bible
School--it’s
for kids up to about
11 years old,” she
said.
“Can I go?--I am only 6 1/2”.
When I was told ‘no’,
I pouted a little, but
got over it. Another
day with Tux the cat
at home. Oh well...I
wouldn’t be totally
alone for the mornings that this VBS was
going to take place.
Kelli reported that
a big monkey did the
morning opening of
each VBS session....
one time, he was a
Ninja monkey; another
time, he wore a grass
skirt. The theme was
“Jungle Jaunt”, and
straw hats were worn
by the teachers and
helpers. I would have
had a hard time keeping such a hat on...no
ear holes. A couple
of real parrots even
visited VBS! Oh and
the games....wow..I
could have gotten
into those---volleyball and races of all
kinds--- just to name
a few. I am quite the
racer, you know.
I
hear the crafts were
pretty cool---colored
sand bottles (ooo...
sand to play in?!); sock
frogs (long story);
and picture frames!
And the snacks...oh,
the snacks....colorful, very tasty creations by the kitchen crew....even tiny
“pigs in blankets”...oh
yum! Unfortunately,
no “doggy bags” came
home to yours truly.
I know that the
most important part
of VBS was sharing God’s Good News
(the Gospel) with the
children, and sharing His love.
God
loves everyone, the
children learned (and
of course all
creatures
great
and
small).

are lukewarm - neither hot nor
cold - I am about to spit you
out of my mouth....those whom
I love I rebuke and discipline.
So be earnest and repent.”
No one is safe from being
lukewarm, including this writer. On the same day that I gave
my friend lukewarm water, the
pastor preached about repenting. About turning away from
the direction you are headed,
if it’s toward sin, and moving
the other direction to the Lord.

He was writing these words
from a prison in Rome, in less
than favorable conditions, but
his heart was to see people
saved. You would think this
would have been a difficult
time for him, but he was able
to continue to share the Good

It’s easy to put on the mask,

Last year, I triumphantly

I know better what I need to

May we all deepen our relationships with Jesus. May we

all that you listen to on Winds

singing “This is for everything/
The time we gave away/ Nothing
left to say, This is a remedy/ For
all the things we’ve lost/ Inside
a heavy, heavy heart”. The closer “Blackout” is a perfect end
to the record, bringing together
all of the elements of the other
songs. The bridge is amazingly
fitting and leaves you wanting
to listen to the record over and
over again. The only downside
to the album is the length, clocking out at only 35 minutes.
If you loved “Kings” like I
did and highly anticipated the
next record then you won’t be
disappointed. “I Am Empire”
takes everything good about
Kings and adds musical maturity, creating a near perfect
record. “Anchors” will no doubt
be in my top 3 records of 2013.

What’s happening in and
around Newport reaching out
to teens.
“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all
wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with thankfulness in
your hearts to God.” Colossians
3:16
Last month some teen
friends invited me to “Open
Mic Night” at the Encounter
Community Church, located at
710 NE 3rd St in Newport.
We made our way through the
dark rainy night guided by the
light emanating from within the
converted warehouse behind
Newport High School. Inside,
we were treated to a wonderful
celebration of the rich artistic
abilities and talents in our community: teens playing instruments, singing, telling stories,
reading poems, speaking of
serious topics or fun raps. Guy
Leech, youth leader, described
the purpose of this outreach
event, “We want to show our
community that we encourage
and welcome their gifts in the
House of God, demonstrating
that Jesus loves them.”
Although all ages are invited
to attend or perform on Open
Mic Night, these events are an
extension of the regular meetings of “The Collective,” a
discussion/fellowship based
youth ministry at Encounter
every Thursday, at 5:30 pm.
According to Guy, “Anyone in
their teens is welcome to join us
as we talk about topics relevant
to teens then look to the Bible to
find answers.” The Encounter
Community Church and youth
ministry began in October 2012
and the “Open Mic Night” out-
Intolerable
reach started in February of
this year. They hope to continue doing these events once
a month as long as the interest
continues to grow.
The next “Open Mic Night”
will be held Thursday, April
11th at 7 pm at the Encounter
Church located between
Sherwin Williams and the
Lincoln County Fairgrounds.
Those wishing to perform
should show up early to guarantee a spot on the set list.
Anyone even thinking about
coming out to Open Mic: Stop
thinking about it and just do it!
It’s always fun and entertaining, but it’s only made great by
people in our community who
come out to perform or watch.
Support your local arts!
Other April outreach events
that everyone should be promoting: Wyldlife club for 6-8th
grade will be held from 6-8
pm in multipurpose room at
NHS on Saturday April 13 and

God has spoken to my
heart and brought to my
attention that there is confusion concerning “tolerance”.
The Lord said to me, “there is
a difference between tolerating and forgiving”. Modern
society’s outlook on tolerance has become a decadent
dessert that has spoiled from
being left out too long. When
you read scripture in the New
Testament and you read of
the encounters that Christ had
with sinners, you
never find Him passing them by, turning
a blind eye or telling
them it’s ok that you
are a sinner because
I can tolerate it.
He simply forgives
them. Forgiveness
can at times be
viewed as tolerance
when it is left alone.
Forgiveness is separated from tolerance
when it is followed
by discipleship. Do
not just say “it’s OK”
and walk away. Do
not just say, “to each
his own” or “it is
what it is”. Tolerance
can be a train traveling on an incomplete
track. Eventually it
will lead to further
destruction of society’s morals.
Tolerance of a
behavior, action or
attitude tends to
lead to acceptance
which is not what
God desires from us.
God’s desire is for us to be
“good shepherds” and to care
for what He has created. This
includes being a tool for Him
to repair that which was broken or to be a guide to those
who may be lost. The first
step is for us to no longer
“tolerate” what is wrong but
to forgive the wrong doings
of others.
The next step which is
important for all of us is to
disciple to those who need
direction. God will heal and
repair the hearts and souls of
the misguided but we need
to do all that we can to lead
them to the Lord. In the mod-
ern day world it is no longer
enough to just be a Christian.
We need to take the next step
in our faith and relationship
with Christ and become disciples. There is an old adage
that states “if you give a man
a fish you will feed him for
a day. If you teach that man
to fish he will eat for a lifetime.” A person who is hurting may be comforted for a
short term by your prayer or
your kind words. But if you
teach that person about God’s
grace and love, they can find
comfort in Him for eternity.
Right believing leads to right
living.

What’s happening in and
around Newport reaching out
to teens.
“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all
wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with thankfulness in
your hearts to God.” Colossians
3:16
Last month some teen
friends invited me to “Open
Mic Night” at the Encounter
Community Church, located at
710 NE 3rd St in Newport.
We made our way through the
dark rainy night guided by the
light emanating from within the
converted warehouse behind
Newport High School. Inside,
we were treated to a wonderful
celebration of the rich artistic
abilities and talents in our community: teens playing instruments, singing, telling stories,
reading poems, speaking of
serious topics or fun raps. Guy
Leech, youth leader, described
the purpose of this outreach
event, “We want to show our
community that we encourage
and welcome their gifts in the
House of God, demonstrating
that Jesus loves them.”
Although all ages are invited
to attend or perform on Open
Mic Night, these events are an
extension of the regular meetings of “The Collective,” a
discussion/fellowship based
youth ministry at Encounter
every Thursday, at 5:30 pm.
According to Guy, “Anyone in
their teens is welcome to join us
as we talk about topics relevant
to teens then look to the Bible to
find answers.” The Encounter
Community Church and youth
ministry began in October 2012
and the “Open Mic Night” out-
Intolerable
reach started in February of
this year. They hope to continue doing these events once
a month as long as the interest
continues to grow.
The next “Open Mic Night”
will be held Thursday, April
11th at 7 pm at the Encounter
Church located between
Sherwin Williams and the
Lincoln County Fairgrounds.
Those wishing to perform
should show up early to guarantee a spot on the set list.
Anyone even thinking about
coming out to Open Mic: Stop
thinking about it and just do it!
It’s always fun and entertaining, but it’s only made great by
people in our community who
come out to perform or watch.
Support your local arts!
Other April outreach events
that everyone should be promoting: Wyldlife club for 6-8th
grade will be held from 6-8
pm in multipurpose room at
NHS on Saturday April 13 and
27th. Also beginning April 13th
Wyldlife participants will be

God has spoken to my
heart and brought to my
attention that there is confusion concerning “tolerance”.
The Lord said to me, “there is
a difference between tolerating and forgiving”. Modern
society’s outlook on tolerance has become a decadent
dessert that has spoiled from
being left out too long. When
you read scripture in the New
Testament and you read of
the encounters that Christ had
with sinners, you
never find Him passing them by, turning
a blind eye or telling
them it’s ok that you
are a sinner because
I can tolerate it.
He simply forgives
them. Forgiveness
can at times be
viewed as tolerance
when it is left alone.
Forgiveness is separated from tolerance
when it is followed
by discipleship. Do
not just say “it’s OK”
and walk away. Do
not just say, “to each
his own” or “it is
what it is”. Tolerance
can be a train traveling on an incomplete
track. Eventually it
will lead to further
destruction of society’s morals.
Tolerance of a
behavior, action or
attitude tends to
lead to acceptance
which is not what
God desires from us.
God’s desire is for us to be
“good shepherds” and to care
for what He has created. This
includes being a tool for Him
to repair that which was broken or to be a guide to those
who may be lost. The first
step is for us to no longer
“tolerate” what is wrong but
to forgive the wrong doings
of others.
The next step which is
important for all of us is to
disciple to those who need
direction. God will heal and
repair the hearts and souls of
the misguided but we need
to do all that we can to lead
them to the Lord. In the mod-
ern day world it is no longer
enough to just be a Christian.
We need to take the next step
in our faith and relationship
with Christ and become disciples. There is an old adage
that states “if you give a man
a fish you will feed him for
a day. If you teach that man
to fish he will eat for a lifetime.” A person who is hurting may be comforted for a
short term by your prayer or
your kind words. But if you
teach that person about God’s
grace and love, they can find
comfort in Him for eternity.
Right believing leads to right
living.

My Grandmother and my

When my Mother and Father

and he knew no Spanish. So,
when I was learning to talk, I
thought it was normal to mix the

So, on to the column.

I was thinking about this new
opportunity to share my love for
Jesus Christ and thought about
the Apostle Paul. I get to sit
in my comfortable desk chair,
in a warm house, with a full
belly and type this. The Apostle
Paul told us in Colossians 4:2-6,
“Continue in prayer, and watch
in the same with thanksgiving;
withal praying also for us, that
God would open unto us a door
of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am
also in bonds: That I may make
it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Walk in wisdom toward them
that are without, redeeming the

with grace, seasoned with salt,
that ye may know how to answer
every man.”

said.
“Can I go?--I am only 6 1/2”.
When I was told ‘no’,
I pouted a little, but
got over it. Another
day with Tux the cat
at home. Oh well...I
wouldn’t be totally
alone for the mornings that this VBS was
going to take place.
Kelli reported that
a big monkey did the
morning opening of
each VBS session....
one time, he was a
Ninja monkey; another
time, he wore a grass
skirt. The theme was
“Jungle Jaunt”, and
straw hats were worn
by the teachers and
helpers. I would have
had a hard time keeping such a hat on...no
ear holes. A couple
of real parrots even
visited VBS! Oh and
the games....wow..I
could have gotten
into those---volleyball and races of all
kinds--- just to name
a few. I am quite the
racer, you know.
I
hear the crafts were
pretty cool---colored
sand bottles (ooo...
sand to play in?!); sock
frogs (long story);
and picture frames!
And the snacks...oh,
the snacks....colorful, very tasty creations by the kitchen crew....even tiny
“pigs in blankets”...oh
yum! Unfortunately,
no “doggy bags” came
home to yours truly.
I know that the
most important part
of VBS was sharing God’s Good News
(the Gospel) with the
children, and sharing His love.
God
loves everyone, the
children learned (and
of course all

singing “This is for everything/
The time we gave away/ Nothing
left to say, This is a remedy/ For
all the things we’ve lost/ Inside
a heavy, heavy heart”. The closer “Blackout” is a perfect end
to the record, bringing together
all of the elements of the other
songs. The bridge is amazingly
fitting and leaves you wanting
to listen to the record over and
over again. The only downside
to the album is the length, clocking out at only 35 minutes.
If you loved “Kings” like I
did and highly anticipated the
next record then you won’t be
disappointed. “I Am Empire”
takes everything good about
Kings and adds musical maturity, creating a near perfect
record. “Anchors” will no doubt

El Apostol Pablo había aprendido como

We too should pray that God would

EACH DELICIOUS WORD
By Dee Ann Bogue
From my Children’s Lit class
in college, I remember the professor defining classics as ”masterworks that stand the test of
time.” Since then I’ve tried to
decide what might qualify as a
classic. Fashionistas tell us wool
blazers are a forever piece in
one’s wardrobe. Model T Fords
remain classics to this day. Fairy
tales are classics in the greatest
sense.
Early colonist’s only access
to Scripture was a huge Bible
chained to the church railing.
Since Christians throughout history had minimal access to the
Word; and even my generation,
as children, had mainly the King
James Version by which to learn
and grow in the knowledge of
God, it boggles my mind that
anyone could become or remain
a believer. That is certainly testimony to the power of the Holy
Spirit in guiding us into all Truth.

Dan Lundy,
Messenger Ministries
LaRita and I attended the
memorial service for Richard
Twiss a few weeks ago. Richard
was president of Wiconi
International, a ministry of
Jesus Christ to aboriginal people all over the world. We were
not all that amazed when people
just kept filing into the Living
Hope Church in Vancouver,
WA. As it turns out, 1,250
people attended the service.
One speaker came from New
Zealand, where Richard’s ministry had impacted her and her
family in a mighty way, help-
But Christianity did “catch on,”
often through reading the writings of others. I have been reading some Christian Classics and
am so blessed by the wisdom
from long ago.
Some of that early wisdom
still continues to bless those who
are hungry for Truth. I loved
reading Augustine’s Confessions.
I checked it out of the library
about five times before I finished reading that small book.
Augustine’s enlightened words
have taught deep truths for centuries. And who can forget John
Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress? I
have three copies in my library
and never tire of this great allegory and its relevance to my own
Christian journey. One copy,
with great illustrations, was read
to me as a child. I still remember the terror of the Slough of
Despond. Shiver! And the joy
in seeing the burden fall from
Christian’s back at the Cross.
Some more recent classics
have filled my book shelves as
well as my heart. The Cost
of Discipleship by Dietrich
Bonhoeffer wooed me in my
early trekking after God. I’ve
started on Thomas Merton’s
writings– what an unusual man,
yet what a writer and believer! Experiencing the Depths
of Jesus Christ by Madame
Jeanne Guyon has elevated her
to “hero/role model” status for
me. I recently read Practicing
the Presence of God by Brother
Lawrence. So many more I’d
like to mention. Are there others
you’d add? Please write to this
paper and let’s see how great a
list we can compile.
Therefore, since we have so
great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every
encumbrance, and the sin which
so easily entangles us, and let us
run with endurance the race that
is set before us, fixing our eyes on
Jesus, the author and perfecter of
faith…. Hebrews 12:1, 2A.
Remembering
Richard Twiss
ing them to reconcile in their
hearts and draw closer to Jesus
as a result of that. The reconciliation message? It is OK
to be aboriginal and practice
the traditions of your people
and still be a Jesus follower. She said that they felt
“set free” when Richard and
his group ministered to them.
Speaker after speaker got up
and told their piece of the story
about Richard and Katheryn
and the impact that Wiconi
International had on their lives
and, in many cases, their ministries. The M.C. of the event
was our good friend Cheryl
Bear. She was close to Wiconi
from day one and will remain
so I’m sure. It was good to
see Randy and Cheryl again.
Richard’s sons spoke eloquently about their father. It
was good to see the kids walking with the Lord. They were
holding a couple of Richard
and Katheryn’s grandkids
thoughout the event, the little
extra feathers in their bonnets.
The video presentation was
wonderful. The early years were
funny, what with the 70s haircuts and striped and checkered
clothes, the carrying through to
the days when Richard “came
out” as a Lakota man. Later it
showed the progression of their
kids from children to adults,
children to parents. Richard
was a “happy Gramps.”
Brian Brightcloud spoke and
was Master of Protocol when
Richard’s regalia was officially
retired. It was a tear-jerking time for those of us who
actually have such regalia and
know that someday ours will
be retired too. It was a very
honoring time for all involved.
I laughed when Brian said that
Richard was one of those guys
who didn’t have a mistress or a

I pass by a canal type stream
when walking my dog in our
neighborhood. I have noticed
broken toys----particularly a
child’s shocking pink “princess” wand, being washed
over by the water, debris, and
litter. Probably long lost and
forgotten.
I teared up when I saw a picture that my youngest daughter
had taken in Mexico. A simple

sign made on a wooden post
with the words; “Home” and
an arrow pointing heavenward. Elizabeth spent her college spring break at a special
needs orphanage in Mexico.
Doing laundry at 4:45 a.m.
and hanging it to dry; changing diapers---both children and
adults---; giving showers...
spoon-feeding; cleaning...all
part of a day’s work. These
residents could have been long
lost and forgotten in poverty.
Someone cared to begin the
orphanage.
Even locally, and it goes
without saying, that we have
many children that could wind
up long lost and forgotten.
Because without mentoring;
without sharing God’s love,
they will. So many come from
broken homes, with overworked or unemployed parents.
Addictions are commonplace
in our little community as in
many towns. So many children are bullied or do the bul-

lying themselves. Electronics
are their “friends”, or in some
cases, their babysitters.
Your laundry needs to be
done. You do it. The phone
rings or you receive a text mes-
sage. You answer it. You have
time for Facebook (ouch). You
have time to listen to a sermon. But do you have time
to roll up your sleeves and
minister to a child? To invite
a child you know for a picnic in your backyard?..to teach
Sunday School or (yikes...a
whole week!) Vacation Bible
School? “But I don’t know the
Bible stories...” You can learn
the Bible yourself through the
curriculum. You can hand out
all-important hugs. You can
even teach other real important
stuff like respect, boundaries,
love, and forgiveness to the
children...and it never hurts
to re-learn those things ourselves.
“But I already raised
my children and even my
grandchildren...”
Jesus
said, “Love your neighbor”.
Please consider showing what
Jesus is all about before any
more little ones are lost and
forgotten.

On the wall in my wrestling room is the statement:
“Talent is God given--be thankful.
Fame is man given--be humble
Conceit is self given--be careful”
Page 2
It is too easy to confuse success with with
what you’re doing and
miss all the other reasons
why you’re doing so well.
Young athletes, filled with
themselves, can get off the
true path to true success.
In order to give credit where
credit is due, you must first
be truly thankful for the
natural talent God has given
to you. Without your innate
abilities it would be hard to
succeed in any sport.
You must also be thankful to your parents for the
sacrifices they make to give
you the opportunity to participate. They drive you
to practices and competitions. They come to support
you and cheer you on with
encouragement. They pay
for gear and participation
fees. They cover chores you
would have been responsible
for. They put up with your
moods of elation and utter
disappointment and despair.
You must also be thankful
for coaches that sacrifice
time and family to teach
you fundamentals, technique, and teamwork. They
receive so little to give you
every opportunity to grow
and succeed.
Fame is not only mangiven but it is also fleeting.
As we entered the Easter
Season, I was reminded of
“Palm Sunday” when the
crowds yelled, “Hosanna
to the King.” Three days
later they yelled, “Crucify
Him, Crucify Him, crucify
Him.”. We must accept the
praise of men with humility
and with a grain of salt.
Conceit is the demise of
an athlete. Prideful arrogance destroys relationships.
Not
only the precious relationships of those
around you but
even the relationship with
yourself. You
must be careful not to confuse pride with
self respect.
You
have
worked hard to
get where you
are. Respect
yourself for
that.
Please
remember to
respect God
and all others
that have con-
tributed to your good fortune and you will be truly
successful.

Not Chasing the Next Dream
by Britt Espinosa
“The Exchange” band
My dad would always
joke that “The day after
Christmas, is better then
Christmas Day”. As a kid,
this rang resoundingly true!
The day after Christmas was
THE BEST! It was the best
because I got to enjoy the
results (or toys) of Christmas
Day; which I had waited for,
seemingly all year. Now if
the day after Christmas was
“the best”, then the second
day after Christmas might
have been the worst. The
second day after Christmas
is the day that as a kid, you
have played through all your
toys, explored everything
about them, lost your excitement; and then begin the next
year of waiting for Christmas
day.
This Christmas concept of
arrival, and disappointment
can ring true in our lives. As
a national touring band, we
have had the privilege to see
many of our dreams come
true! Many times I find myself
pushing, fighting, and endur-
The Exchange
ing towards a dream, only to
arrive, experience that dream
of playing for thousands of
people for 30 minutes, hear
our song on the radio for 5
minutes, shake the hand of
someone who is a huge inspiration for a brief moment,
and then be left wondering,
“What next?”. As Christians
in the music industry, our
purpose, goals, and the “what
next” question center around
Jesus Christ. Without Jesus,
we would always be chasing
the next big dream, only to
find it leaving us empty and
disappointed. I encourage
you to know Jesus! Knowing
Him brings a purpose, and
new meaning to life. Instead
of temporary happiness, He
brings lasting joy.

I’m thinking about lukewarm. Pondering a new column for this months POST,
my thoughts keep going there.
Primarily its from an experience I recently had in church.
We were in a special community wide service, and my friend
was the main speaker. I was
sitting up front, and, watching
him speak, I could see that he
was obviously parched. We’ve
probably all been there before,
talking, and struggling because
of a dry mouth.
So I watched for a while,
and wanted so much to get
him a glass of water, but didn’t
want to make a spectacle of it.
Radio Update
So something happened that
kind of distracted the crowd
for a second, and I jumped up
and made a break for the back
kitchen. I quickly grabbed a
cup, and opened the faucet and
poured in some liquid. As I
made haste to get the water to
my friend, some of it splashed
on my hand, and I realized that
it was warm water. But I didn’t
stop to correct it.
I got back into my seat, and
handed the glass to my friend’s
wife, who then silently gave it
to him. And then I watched him
take a drink. And I thought to
my self....that’s probably not
very refreshing. That’s lukewarm water. So what was supposed to be a help probably
wasn’t much.
As another example, my day
job has me servicing some pop
machines, and we all know that
one of the best things about
buying a cold pop is the fact
that its cold. The machines do
break down however, as compressors fail, and sometimes
the soda is warm. Yuck. No one
appreciates that.
The famous scripture about
‘lukewarm’ is the one where
Jesus is speaking in Revelation,
chapter 3. Its actually disturb-
ing, because no one would like
to be rejected by the Lord.
But He says, “These are the
