This is a preliminary version of the UTAH TIBETAN COMMUNITY FACEBOOK. Its ultimate
purpose is to help the rest of the community come to better know its new Tibetan members. We
have nearly completed the process of interviewing each of the Tibetans pictured here, regarding
their lives, their families, their impressions of Utah, etc., for inclusion in a more complete version
of this directory. We hope that this will help as the Tibetans continue to look for new housing,
career advancement, sponsorship for family reunification, improved English language skills, If you
wish to assist further, contact Utah Friends of Tibet, through Bob Palais (487-8930). etc.
Utah Friends of Tibet was co-founded in 1990 by Pema and TJ Chagzoetsang, Paula Quenemoen,
and Bob Palais. We have organized several Tibet related activities in Utah, and are the official
support group of the S.L. Tibetan Resettlement Project. Our purposes are education and action
on Tibetan issues, and service to the Tibetan community, especially by facilitating contact with
the rest of the community. In the past year, we met with the Division of Continuing Education to
initiate Tibet related programs at the U. of Utah, and participated in their planning, and organized
a Tibet symposium at the annual meeting of the American Alpine Club at Snowbird which was
attended by over 600 people. We also work closely with the Utah Tibetan Association, which
represents the Tibetan community itself, and assist Tibetans with individual needs. We also have
a lending library of Tibetan books and videos.
