The Hobbs Fire Department brought Christmas
early to many children in Hobbs, handing out hundreds of toys to needy children on Sunday, but the
giving doesn’t stop there.
Dana Ankerholz with the Hobbs Fire
Department, who is co-organizing the annual toy
drive, said the number of toys donated this year
was more than ever seen before.
“We have received a ton of toys this year. I would
say 2,000 toys at least,” she said.
Firefighter Michael Nelson, another toy drive
organizer, said the community has been very generous this year and some 60-70 children have

A Hobbs resident used the help
of an online forum to assemble
an impressive Christmas light
display at his home north of
town.
Adam Lindner, 34, who drills
water wells for Eades Drilling
and Pump Service, decided in
January that he wanted to have a
Christmas display at his home.
“I would see other houses in
town, and the elaborate decorations, and I always wondered
how they did it,” Lindner said.
“I’ve seen it on the Internet
before, and my 15-year-old daughter, Katie, talked me into doing
my own display this year.”
Lindner

for the first two controllers. He
tinkered with the controllers and
the thought of assembling the
display for almost 10 months
until October, when he decided to

received toys thanks to the donations.
“As of right now I have 25 households of kids,
about four kids per house in need,” Nelson said
just prior to distributing on Sunday. “We have
enough presents to give two per child and we still
may have more available.”
Nelson said kids not only received toys this year,
but inmates at the Lea County Correctional
Facility knitted beanies for all the children and
those were also handed out.
Nelson said the department also received generous monetary donations that were used to purchase fruit, which was first done last year and was
