Being active in the local chamber of commerce is an effective business strategy. It communicates to consumers that a company uses good practices, is reputable, cares about its customers, and is involved in its
community. ~ Study by the Shapiro Group
The Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce signed on a new executive director Friday, October 9th. Rod Mayhew, currently of Brandon
started work on Monday, October 12th.
Mayhew, 61, is an entrepreneur having founded both a mortgage company and a publishing company. He holds an associate’s degree from
Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md., a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Townson
State University in Townson, Md., and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami
in Coral Gables, Fla.
During his 20 years in publishing, Mayhew said that he built much of his information gathering and community service around the local chambers of commerce where his publications were based, and had served
on numerous committees.
“The Zephyrhills community is at the threshold of greatness,” Mayhew said. “It is an honor and privilege
to have the opportunity to be part of the vibrant Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce. I look forward
to working with businesses, city officials, community leaders, and residents in creating an environment to
foster area economic development and growth. I welcome everyone to stop by the Chamber and give me
your thoughts and ideas, or just to say hi.”
GZCOC President and search committee chairman Tim Linville said, “I think it’s a great opportunity for
Zephyrhills to continue to move forward with somebody that has previous skills both in business and in
working with the chamber on the other side of the fence as he has in the past in his other jobs. It should be
a good move for
Zephyrhills in its future.”
Mayhew will fill the position vacated by Vonnie Mikkelesen in July. Mikkelsen had been executive director for about six years and moved to Springfield, Oregon where she took another Chamber position close to
her hometown.
The Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based association of businesses, organizations and individuals working together to preserve and continually enhance the quality of life in the community of Zephyrhills and surrounding area of East Pasco County. We promote a vibrant and active business climate supporting economic growth through leadership and active involvement by our membership.
Please take a few minutes and stop in to say hello and welcome him to the Community

Restored Hope is very grateful to all the surrounding communities
and the partnerships we have formed since opening our doors in
November of 2013. Without the help and support from all of you,
we could not serve those in need as we do. We have so many families, seniors and individuals that need a hand up to get back on
their feet or just plain survive from month to month on limited
incomes. The center serves Dade City, Zephyrhills and the surrounding East Pasco areas. We are located at 13703 17 th St in
Dade City.
Restored Hope is a resource and outreach center to help the homeless, those on the verge of homelessness and those in need in our
area. We help with what’s called safety net services to try and stabilize clients. We assist with water bills and deposits, limited rent
assistance, help homeless families living on the street or in their
cars get shelter, give away emergency food for the homeless, laundry facility for the homeless, clothing for work and job interviews,
hygiene products, spending classes to empower clients, assistance
with ACCESS for food stamp applications and much more. In
December, we’ll have an ESG grant that will assist low income
families in Dade City with rapid re-housing or homeless prevention.
A Special thanks to:
Metropolitan Ministries for helping get RH started with giving us best practices, in-services and support as needed.
San Antonio Citizens Federal Credit Union for teaching our
spending classes. Thank you Dawn and Becca!
The Rainbow Motel for helping to provide emergency shelter
for our homeless families and veterans.
The First National Bank of Pasco for collecting lots of boxes
of hygiene products from their staff and customers for
our families in need.
The Dollar Store on 301 in Dade City for setting up a collection basket in the store for hygiene items.
Murrell Pest Control for donating their pest service for the
center.
Absolute Commercial Cleaning Service, David and Bonnie
Krummen for donating the cleaning service for the center.
All the other agencies we work with and refer to, St Rita’s
SVDP, The Samaritan project in ZH, The Salvation Army
in DC, Premier Health, and many more.
The Dade City, Zephyrhills and Pasco County water departments that work with us to assist our clients.
We are truly grateful to everyone and pray we continue to make a
difference in the lives of families and individuals in Dade City,
Zephyrhills, and the surrounding East Pasco areas.

Honoring Our Nation's Veterans
On Veteran's Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2015, we will proudly partner with Pasco County
Schools Superintendent Kurt S. Browning to sponsor the 2nd annual district-wide Veterans Day
Ceremony. The event to honor and celebrate our veterans for their commitment and sacrifice will
take place at 9:00 a.m. at River Ridge Center for the Arts, 11646 Town Center Rd., New Port
Richey. The ceremony will be videotaped and made available to all 70,000 students districtwide
in 84 schools.
We are honored to be joined by keynote speaker Congressman Gus Bilirakis. In addition, the River Ridge ROTC will present the colors and perform the flag folding ceremony to be presented to a
Pasco County Schools veteran alumnus. Music will be provided by River Ridge Middle and High
Schools, and the Cypress Elementary School Chorus. Veteran and local businessman Tom Castriota will recognize the winning essay from the contest our office sponsored as a segment of the
Pasco Constitutional Officers Essay Contest initiative. Fourth Graders were invited to submit a
500-word essay entitled "What Freedom Requires Responsibility Means to Me." First prize, a
$100 Visa Gift Card, is sponsored by VFW Post 6180, New Port Richey, and $75 and $50 Visa
Gift Cards sponsored by Jarrett Ford, Dade City, as second and third prizes.
Our partnership with Pasco County Schools is an extension of our Vote in Honor of a Vet program, classroom presentations, school election program, and our annual high school voter registration drive which will take place immediately following the ceremony. Elections' Office Ambassadors will be available to register and/or pre-register eligible high school students at all Pasco
County High Schools. The goal of our education program is to instill in children the importance of
civic duty which has come at a cost and should never be taken for granted.
